Review: Cin, also known as Cincity, has an unquenchable thirst for artistic expression, blending her love for house music with her African roots to create a unique sound. Her Ko-Kolo EP sees her combine with Ntjam Rosie, a Dutch-Cameroonian singer-songwriter outta Rotterdam, sending in a theatrical house explosion for the title-track. With a B-side single backing it up in "Taxasso" - a mystical and darker synth jam still deeply rooted in house - we turn to a Space Dub of the led cut where we're dealt a stripped back version of the original with some minimal synth charging up its beats, next to a Balearic remake coming from FNX Omar. Rise Music rinsing it once again.
Review: Rise Music drops a second set of remixes of tracks from Hyenah's collaboration-heavy debut album, 2022's slightly overlooked (but genuinely impressive) 'Love In Times Of Crisis'. Angelos and Da Mike step up first, slickly re-inventing ElBeeBad hook-up 'Afrika Elektra' into a sparse, hot-stepping Afro-house jack-track, before Manqo offers a deep, shuffling tech-house take on the Bajka-sporting vocal number, 'The Message'. Bun Xapa then delivers regular and extended remixes of G-Wash 10 collaboration 'Rain Queen', adding layers of percussion to tactile synth sounds, trance-style textures and Afro-tech attitude, while Jamiie re-frames 'Life's Plan'(with Demitrius) as a suspenseful, Osunlade-goes-tech-house workout
Review: To date, publicity shy, mask-wearing producer Hyenah has released a string of inspired EPs for the likes of Watergate, Freerange Records and Rise Music. Here he returns to the latter label with his most significant release yet: a long-awaited debut album made in cahoots with a long list of guest musicians and producers. After teasing us in gently with the pitched down, hypnotic wonder that is 'The Rite' (featuring beautiful vocals from Ernesto and the Basement Gospel), Hyenah sprints between heavily electronic Afro-house, 21st century kwaito/electro fusion, percussion-heavy tech-house, future jazz, glitchy late-night micro-house, soul-fired sunset house brilliance and much more besides. As debut albums go, it's a doozy.
Review: AMEME is a west African-born DJ/music producer based in Brooklyn. He is the founder of One Tribe, a creative collective whose vibrant lifestyle events unite diverse individuals and elements such as art, fashion and music. He is up next on RISE, the Berlin-based label and club night run by acclaimed Afro house purveyor Hyenah. There is some powerful music on offer on the Gaou EP: from the life affirming hi-tech soul of "Your Vibe" which receives a
spiritual life music treatment from NinaHalena up next. In addition to those, we have the deep and moody atmospherics of the title track featuring Don Bello Ni that will undoubtedly induce you into a trance.
