Review: 10 months after he last graced the long-serving label, Lebedev returns to Robsoul Recordings with his fourth EP for the popular French imprint. The Russian producer is in predictably fine form throughout. He first takes us 'Back to 1992' on a loopy, filter-sporting chunk of Chez Damier style U.S deep house with added saxophone samples, before opting for weightier sub-bass, crunchier drums and tighter, shorter horn samples on the sweaty box jam that is 'In Practice'. Best of all though is title track 'Lullaby', a gorgeous, sample rich deep house loop jam piled high with dewy-eyed soul vocal samples, sweet disco snippets, sweeping filters and chunky drums.

Review: Since making his debut on Rhyme Nor Reason in the summer of 2020 via the ultra-deep dancefloor shuffle of 'Don't Leave Me Daddy', Marlon George has been surprisingly quiet, with two contributions to a multi-artist EP being his only release of note. This Robsoul label debut is therefore well timed. George is in fine form throughout, first opting for an R&B-tinged dusty deep house vibe on sample-heavy title track 'Intimate FR', before opting for a higher tempo, heavily filtered vocal samples and bustling beats on 'Spanish Joint (Cassette Mix)'. 'Mamma's Love' sounds like an imagined collaboration between Andres and Derrick Carter, while 'Theo' is groovy, deep and woozy in equal measure. Bespoke box jams for deep house DJs who like to get locked in the groove.

Review: After spending the first few months of 2021 serving up EPs on Rhythm Section, Too Many Rules and Cruise Music, Lebedev returns to Robsoul Recordings with his third release on the long-serving French imprint. The prolific Russian producer is in predictably fine form on drowsy and hypnotic opener 'Dancing Under The Moon', a chunky slab of locked-in deep house goodness rich in swirling string samples, soulful 1970s vocal lifts, booming bass and shuffling sample-house beats. 'Deep Magic' is another hazy, sample-rich affair, with rubbery bass guitar, rising horn snippets and woozy chords catching the ear, while closing cut 'Random Affair' is chunky, tactile, groovy and ideally constructed for 4AM plays.

Review: Pierre Cocordan started his production career as Dan Corco 20 years ago with a string of Motor City inspired techno and electro releases, but in recent times he's gravitated towards deep house. He's in straight up celebratory house party mode on this celebratory Robsoul Recordings outing, offering up a quartet of cuts that mostly combine chunky, club-ready beats with samples from vintage disco, Italo and new wave tunes. He opens with some swinging, loose-limbed disco-house in the shape of 'Lets Jamming Right'[sic], before delivering some far-sighted deep house/Motor City techno fusion via EP highlight 'Spring Tales'. 'Temptation' is a muscular chugger that successfully tools-up a classic Italo-disco jam, while 'The Way I Feel' re-imagines a much-loved '80s boogie classic as a Tiger & Woods style loop jam.

Review: Phil Weeks' long-running French house/deep house label Robsoul Recordings round up the best of their 2020 output in one high-VFM package. As per Robsoul's MO generally, you won't find a lot in the way of navel-gazing introspection or pointless, self-indulgent experimentalism here - Robsoul have always specialised in dropping beats to move your feets and this year's crop doesn't disappoint! The wonky, jazzy garage of The Mekanism's 'Signs', the raw jack of Joss Moog's 'So Good So Fresh', Demuir's strutty hip-houser 'Nice And Dutty' and Jade Cox's looping, west coast-ish 'Realise' are just some of the highlights of a fine collection.

Review: Robsoul boss Phil Weeks has been expanding the label's already bulging roster. On this "future focused" sampler EP, he introduces us to three of his most recent signings. Up first is sometime Snatch, Superfiction and Monique producer Blind Minded, who wraps woozy, heavily filtered disco-boogie samples around a tough, chunky and peak-time ready house beat on 'Punk Funk'. Clockbeats man Federico Baracco ops for a more bass-heavy, organ-heavy vibe on thrusting EP highlight 'How I Feel', before virtual unknown Fairshore delivers a delightful slab of spacey deep house bliss with a light UKG twist.

Review: Maxim Lebedev returns to Robsoul, a label he first graced in October 2019 with the rather fine "Light Rhythm EP". The good news is that he Donetsk-based producer is in similarly good form on this must-check follow-up, confidently strutting between loopy, bass-heavy disco-house loop jams (the thickset bump and twinkling sounds of "Magic Night"), celebratory, filter-sporting deep house/disco-funk fusion (the clipped guitars, short vocal snippets, occasional cowbells, tight horns and drowsy Rhodes chords of "Keep On"), and surprisingly percussive, locked-in workouts smothered in echo-laden electro piano motifs, Barry White style strings and barely audible spoken word samples (bumping and hedonistic closing cut "The Sea").

Review: The EP title here is very apt, because "ain't nothin' but a groove" is a slightly clich?d epithet that's nonetheless highly applicable to all four of the featured tracks. 'Let's Groove On' itself marries complex percussion to cut-up vocal snips and an almost Flat Eric-ish bassline, 'La Rave De Villemonde' is a jerky, stop-start cut that comes on like house music's answer to the sparse, twitchy two-step of the early 00s, 'Don't Push Me' has the classic boompty feel we know and love Robsoul for, while finally 'Parasites' is a slightly smoother ride with more of a disco/funk feel.

Review: By and large associated with the Sonar Kollektiv label, music from the acoustic house, jazz and pop pairing Paskal & Urban Absolutes arrives on Robsoul! Run by the French house cat outta Paris, Phil Weeks, the label couldn't help but indulge in the 80s cultural pop aesthetics of "Ooh" that does its best in channelling the ghosts of Prince and George Michael. With DJ Sneak turning in a classic remix of wavey rhodes, filter tinged vocals and straight laced grooves, Week's himself took it as an equal opportunity to flesh out some skatty vocals, warm basslines and searing synths in his remix. Word up to Charlie Sputnik! Ooh yeah.

Review: Kid Enigma's catalogue is full of eye-catching collaborations, including joint releases with such eyebrow-raising names as DJ Sneak, Till Von Sein and Nathan Barato. He's in collaborative mode again on this Robsoul Recordings debut, delivering a studio shakedown with Chicagoan scene stalwart Ed Nine. Up first is "That's Life", an infectious, shoulder-swinging stomp that adds "Show Me Love" style melodic motifs and stylish, hip-house style rap verses to a stomping beat and chunky bassline. Virtual B-side "All My Life" employs a similarly bold and ear-catching bassline, skipping drums and short, spoken word passages, but the starry chords and lead lines give the tracker an altogether deeper feel.

Review: Parisian house cat Phil Weeks pimps it so much on this EP he could be a Samurai! Keeping it OG as always, Weeks throws down four club workouts that all touch on various aspects of disco, Chicago house and acid, with plenty of filter action and booty in "Hot Pants". Check "Pimp Factor" to understand what Daft Punk could sounded like had they avoided Hollywood, with some low riding beats and dubby house in "Everytime I Think About You". And for the real freaks, save the gnarliest acid and deviant ghetto house semantics for "The House Of Cheech & Chong". Le Don Weeks.

Review: Having re-introduced themselves to house heads via 2019's "Dignity" on Exploited Ghetto, long-serving German deep house duo Luna City Express are on a roll. Here they mark their first appearance on similarly experienced French imprint Robsoul Recordings via a typically tidy three-tracker. EP opener "Delight" is a pleasingly lolloping affair, with genuine percussive swing, addictive (if foreboding) chords, jazzy bass, rich Rhodes riffs and just the right amount of off-kilter energy. The experienced pair moves further towards stab-happy peak-time deep house territory on the hypnotic but energy-packed "Think About You", before tough, bongo-laden beats, James Brown samples and thickset organ riffs create a sweaty, carefree mood on EP highlight "Tribalism Disco".
