Live At Palladium
Live At Palladium - (7:29) 120 BPM Hot
You Want My Love - (6:22) 111 BPM
Demain A Jamais - (4:40) 110 BPM
Review: Paris-based deep house veteran Phil Weeks is usually a reliable source of bittersweet, floor-friendly fodder. This new three-tracker for his own Robsoul label is another winner. "Live at Palladium", with its jazzy keys, warm groove and soulful vocal samples (what appears to be Marvin Gaye, no less), is impeccable; a real winter warmer. The edit-not-edit deep disco house of "You Want My Love" - all filtered vocals, shuffling grooves, twittering flutes and subtle pianos - is, if anything, even better. The closing track, "Demain A Jamais", is similarly inspirational, sounding as it does like a cross between Pepe Bradock's "Deep Burnt" and chunky, bumpin' Chicagoan deep house.

Bad Chance Went Thru My Mind
Bad Chance Went Thru My Mind - (6:57) 120 BPM Hot
Baila Baila - (7:30) 120 BPM
Review: France's legendary swing-house producer Phil Weeks drops a new two-tracker on Robsoul. As per usual, it's nothing but sweet party vibes from Mr Weeks, who brings through his inimitable, filtered sample style to the floor. "Bad Chance Went Thru My Mind" is a disco-leaning house number complete with seductive vocal chops and sliding shots of percussion. "Baila Baila" is more of a DJ tool but it too comes chock-a-block with circling vocal samples and Weeks' typical flair. If you're into his previous stuff then this will certainly not disappoint.

Get On Up - (5:10) 124 BPM
Review: More funked-up disco loops than you can shake an MPC at here, courtesy of Parisian specialists Robsoul. Label chez Phil Weeks taking up the reins and showing us hows it's done, as always. On the That House Groove EP, he serves up four examples of straight up boompty business - from the lo-slung shuffle of the title track (which features a bit 303 acid for good measure), as does the following track "Extra Dry" but this one's far more of a late night/heads down affair for basement parties. We particularly enjoyed the sexy, late night mood lighting of end track "Get On Up" which nails that classic deep house aesthetic just perfectly.

Where Did The Night Go - (6:57) 120 BPM
I Can Make U Dance - (5:54) 120 BPM
Review: Given his vast experience - his debut single dropped some 15 years ago - it's perhaps unsurprising that Phil Weeks rarely drops a duff release. This latest three-tracker for his long-running Robsoul Recordings imprint delivers more highly desirable deep house gear. The title-track is particularly impressive, lacing Marvin Gaye vocal samples and seductive strings over a rolling, disco-influenced house groove. There's more of an old school Chicago feel to "Where Did The Night Go", which makes great use of a killer analogue synth bassline, subtle chords and hustling, shaker-laced percussion. Arguably best of all, though, is "I Can Make You Dance", a deliciously sweaty P-funk-goes-deep house concoction made all the more effective by liberal use of filters.

Review: France's DJ W!ld has been concentrating on his DJ career over the last few years but the Parisian house staple is no stranger to the mixing room and, as per usual, he comes through utterly correct on Phil Weeks' Robsoul label (going strong since 2000). The All About You EP is classic W!ld ding what he does best. "Beakin'" takes hard-hitting drums and places them over minimal chords and melodies, "With You" is driving and like a steel pulse running through the dancefloor with its stabs of percussion, while "Only What I Am" is funkier and more kreaky thanks to its hypnotic samples and luscious chords. "All About You" is deeper, more lo-fi and yet filled with Wild's inimitable flair and charisma. It blows away most tech-house imitators, top stuff!

Review: Given his usual productivity, Mobilee man Sebo K has been rather quiet of late. This is his only his third outing in three years, and sees him make his belated debut for Phil Weeks' Robsoul Recordings. It's arguably more solid than sensational, with Catalyst delivering a trio of floor-friendly DJ tools. He offers a nod towards classic French filter disco and vintage Mr G productions on the bumpin' title track - all bold bass, relentless rhythms and a few choice effects - before wandering off in a more obviously soulful, dusty direction on the Andres style bumper "It's Alright (Raw Mix)". Finally, he delves deeper into deep house/tech-house crossover territory on the smooth and intricate "Ojo Rojo".

Review: Parisian legend and Robsoul Recordings boss Phil Weeks is back on the scene with a full length album - and we're very interested! It's a mixed bag on Pimpin' Aint Easy and testament to his broad range of musical influences over the years. After the hip hop intro of the title track, it's business as usual from Weeks, showing us some acid, some smooth deep house on "We Need House" featuring Mike Dunn and some funky vocal led jams like on the tremendous "Funky Music" featuring the always brilliant Peven Everett. There's the typical sound more commonly associated with Weeks like on the track "A Man Needs a Woman" but also does some straight up Detroit techno on tracks like "Tension".

Hey Mr DJ - (6:11) 125 BPM
Review: Since making his debut on the label in 2006, Joss Moog has been one of Robsoul Recordings most prolific artists. The Parisian specializes in the kind of fuss-free, club-ready tackle that blends elements of "French Touch" style disco-house, the "boompty" deep house funk of Derrick Carter, and more tech-tinged, bass-heavy excursions. These influences can be clearly heard on the four tracks that make up "Triple Loop", all of which could be regarded as proper dancefloor jackers. Highlights wise, we're particularly enjoying the jazzy organ riffs and chunky U.S deep house style of "Hey Mr DJ" and the Carter-esque heavy Chicago bump of "Triple Loop", though it's all pretty damn good.

Review: Natural Rhythm are Thomas White and Pete Williams and their tracks have been secret weapons in Robsoul boss Phil Weeks' DJ sets for over a decade. On Tribute, he reissues some of his personal favourites. Said to be born in a garage in Los Angeles in the late '90's, you can hear that Natural Rhythm was a meeting of passionate musical minds who created their own style, with releases on local imprints such as Seasons Recordings, Earthtones and their own eponymous imprint. "Something Big" starts out with with their signature funky disco loops in full effect; they're really at home on Robsoul! "Chicago Nights" is an edit of a certain Billy Ocean classic that we can never get enough of, while "Energized" rocks that really deep and funky bass over smooth Rhodes and tribal drums sampled from a certain Submission track.

Review: Former Large Music and Nite Grooves man Chris Stussy returns to Robsoul Recordings for a third time, bringing with him a quartet of tried and tested box jams for deep house floors that like it funky and chunky. He eases us in gently with "Boogie Trippin", a swinging, breakbeat-driven cut rich in tasty hip-hop vocal samples and sparkling riffs, before dialing into eyes-closed disco-house territory via the head-in-the-clouds bump of "Flow Distinction". "Next To You" is a more hypnotic, locked-in and bass-heavy roller, while EP closer "Selfless State" wraps snippets of hazy modern soul vocals and elongated organ chords around another rolling, loose-limbed deep house groove.

Review: Parisian house gangster and all round unstoppable force Phil Weeks is back: on Robsoul of course! With Raw Instrumental 2 be prepared for some rough and raw, looped up shenanigans that all wear the unmistakable grit of the Akai MPC on them. Starting off in fine form with the deep down and dirty jack of "The Rhythm" or the brazen disco flava of "Can't Live Without Your Love" or the lo-slung funk dynamics of "Night Drive". There's fine form later on and throughout, such as on the fittingly titled "House Head" which really works that infectious sense of swing that the big white box does oh so well. We must also mention the gutsy closer "Excess" which works those dusty loops into a mighty crescendo just like the Chi-town master DJ Sneak could do back in the day.

"The Woohh Sound" does exactly what it says on the tin: you could really imagine DJ Sneak or Mark Farina using this one to whip up a frenzy at some Chicago basement party. Finally we have "Kiwi Kawi" which serves up some late night deep house of the smooth and sexy variety.

Review: Astonishingly, 22 years have passed since Harry Romero - the artist occasionally known as "Choo Choo" - released his first record. The Subliminal and Strictly Rhythm Regular has barely been out of work since, as a quick glance at his lengthy discography will prove. Interestingly, Hot Again marks his first appearance on the similarly long-serving Robsoul Recordings. He begins with "Lost in Music", where rising and falling acid-style motifs are encased in chunky drums (we'd expect little less), trippy female vocal samples and woozy chords. "Indy Loop" is an intoxicated, tribal-inspired jack-track with sassy female vocal samples and plenty of low-end grunt, while "Hot Music" peppers a bouncy, piano-heavy boompty style groove with all manner of familiar vocal samples and a snaking synth-sax line.

Review: Phil Weeks' Parisian powerhouse taps one of his hometown heroes for the label's next release: none other than the man D'julz who throws down the Foxxy EP and you can bet your ass it's hella sexy and well funky! "Ze Fox" (12" mix) is exactly the kind of deep down and dirty loop business that rips some fine disco joints into ergonomic perfection. The French Touch undoubtedly comes through on next offering "Big Kid" this is deeply uplifting house with a tough element to it with its gutsy rhythms and evocative strings. Finally "Next" is classic Julien Veniel; the kind of slinky and liquid grooves he was throwing down on 2020 Vision or Ovum in the early noughties.

Review: Paris house badman Phil Weeks lands on us like a pile of bricks, thanks to his unsurprisingly effective and tooled-up four-to-the-floor made for maximum dance floor damage and minimal DJ mess-ups. The aptly named "On The Floor" is exactly the sort of grainy tech-house that we've always loved from the man and his Robsoul label - but the sweetest spot is that subtle disco magic that he always manages to infuse into his tracks. "Funk In Your Trunk" is also utterly on-brand and, just as it says on the description, it's a pure tool cut that manage to stay lively and interesting thanks to its rugged funk slapbass, while "Be With You" goes much deeper into the depths of house, and filters in a sublime jazzy touch for extra weight.

Review: Pierre Cocordan started his production career as Dan Corco 20 years ago with a string of Motor City inspired techno and electro releases, but in recent times he's gravitated towards deep house. He's in straight up celebratory house party mode on this celebratory Robsoul Recordings outing, offering up a quartet of cuts that mostly combine chunky, club-ready beats with samples from vintage disco, Italo and new wave tunes. He opens with some swinging, loose-limbed disco-house in the shape of 'Lets Jamming Right'[sic], before delivering some far-sighted deep house/Motor City techno fusion via EP highlight 'Spring Tales'. 'Temptation' is a muscular chugger that successfully tools-up a classic Italo-disco jam, while 'The Way I Feel' re-imagines a much-loved '80s boogie classic as a Tiger & Woods style loop jam.

Review: Barely a month has passed since Dan Corco's Robsoul debut, "Dance Therapy", hit download stores, but already the long-serving - if frustratingly little-known - producer has delivered a sequel. Like its predecessor, there's much to enjoy, from the supple, loose-limbed shuffle of "U Can Try Tonight" - all electrofunk synthesizer flashes, soulful male vocal samples and chunky deep house grooves - to the hypnotic disco-house loops and bass breakdowns of closing cut "Tchoz". Sandwiched in between you'll find the bombastic peak-time bounce of boompty style workout "On The Bit" and the fluttering, synth-laden filtered disco-house excitement of "Phasys".
