Blowback is redolent of the period when dub techno was still capable of producing brilliantly deep sounds. Maybe Greek producer Echonomist got stuck in time a decade ago, but whatever the explanation, this release has all the warmth and charm that has evaded the form in recent times. The title track is a dark, rolling affair, powered by a surging bass, but soon it breaks down into a spacey, filtered drop. "Something From My Mind" goes in the opposite direction; beginning with angelic melodies, it moves from the sublime to the functional via its rolling rhythm before morphing into a tougher sound thanks to its grinding chord build. Nikola Gala also delivers a slamming, metallic take on "Blowback".
