Rick Wreck - "Heartache 2 Heartbreak" - (4:35) 96 BPM
Review: Few labels do revivalist boogie, electrofunk and Italo-disco quite as well as Berlin's Royal Athlete. For proof, just check out this multi-artist EP, which is just overflowing with synth-heavy goodness. Atmospheric '80s pop revivalists Private Agenda get things going with the dreamy "Tender", before occasional PPU contributor Sven Atherton drops an authentic chunk of Balearic-minded synth-funk (the standout "Last Of The Linn"). Other highlights include the piano-heavy boogie business of "Bass Finger" by Liquid Pegasus and the emotion-rich soul wonkiness of Rick Wreck's raw and teary-eyed "Heartache 2 Heartbreak". In other words, it's another essential EP from the Royal Athlete camp.
