Review: When done right, swirling pads can make a touch of melancholia the defining part of a release. Combine that with a sample from the mid-20th Century and you've got a recipe for a tune that'll make you forget about the passage of time in a Calibre-esque sense, one of those tunes where the beginning feels like the end and vice versa. Rubik manages this on 'Chronicles', a pure roll-out from start to finish, one that doesn't worry about making the drop fat or nailing a breakdown - it's just D&B, all the way. 'Polars' features yet more exquisitely crafted drums and another pristine sample, this time a soulful vocal lick that blends perfectly with the backdrop of dulled down synths and pads. If you like your D&B without frills, you'll like this.

Review: Random Movement's remix of Technimatic's gorgeously smooth "Vermillion" has just the right touch of everything. From the perfectly balanced vocals from Jayma ringing clear against a deep wavering sub to the glimmers of light created by glittering keys up in the top end, this is a beautifully composed track, pure and simple. "Dropping The Chips" offers Technimatic a chance to turn the tables and sees the two acclaimed producers remixing Random Movement's massive 2012 smasher. Affording an extra-large rolling bassline and chilling the mother out of the original, this remix EP really is something special.

Review: US dwelling D&B-ster Random Movement provides the first cut for this new release on Rubik - kicking off with gentle, rattling breaks and shimmering atmospherics, we are eased into "Risk" slowly, with a slowly building sonic palette leading into the main tune. With an inherent musicality present throughout, the echoing vocal snatches serve to emphasize the mood of the piece. Deep bass bellows add further depth and structure. Up next, it's over to Mutt, Calculon and Kevin King for "Easy On The Motion" - a vocal-led, smoky, jazz-influenced liquid roller, which is preceded by a stripped back intro and bobs along beautifully until the end.
