Review: Next up on London's Running Out Of Steam is Amsterdam-based Welsh producer Maroki, who channels from a rich pool of influences in addition to using his classically trained skills and employing expertly engineered sounds into this nice collection of tracks taking in everything from breaks, acid and techno. From the subterranean UK flava of opening cut "Emerald City", followed by the deep and mesmerising stepper "Alfred Stole My Brain", to the sci-fi electro beats of "Total Recall" and the ecstatic closer "Slower" and it's rolling jungle beats - Return To Emerald city showcases Maroki's distinct musical personality.

Review: Next up from Running Out Of Steam, we have a gorgeous collection of modernized breakbeat design as Adam BFD delivers five stunning originals, doused in creativity and unique arrangement themes from the very first whistle. We open with the glittering textures of 'Digital Tales', a constantly shifting backdrop of digitized bleeps and subtle breaksy rolls, followed by spacey percussive pops of 'Cirrus Dreamz' and even slower reesey subs and hi-hat shuffling droplets of '1st Sight' for good measure. The party then takes a more melancholy maneuver as 'Rose' lets fly a beautiful collection of synthetic harmonies, dipped in some flavoursome arpeggiator action, before 'Siniestro' has the final say with a stunning soundscape, drawing the project to a blissful, floating close. A very enjoyable collection indeed!

Review: If this five-tracker is anything to go by, Running Out of Steam label debutant Adam BFD could be an artist to watch in 2022. Like many of his generation, the Paris-based producer specialises in dreamy, ear-pleasing cuts that combine nostalgia for times past - that's code for "influenced by electronic dance music of the 1990s" - with a firm grasp of contemporary dancefloor trends. Our picks of a very strong bunch include the ultra-deep breakbeat melancholia of 'No Advice', the elongated ambient breakdowns and sun-drenched dancefloor bliss of 'I'll Be Walking' and the Korg M-1 bassline-propelled deep house roll of 'For The Good Times'.

Review: The ascendant M4A4 releases his debut on London-based Running Out Of Steam, following up a great inauguration by DOS. The talented young Irish producer flawlessly blends the sounds of deep house with Jersey & NY house, creating a record that's destined to make people dance. From the swing-fuelled late night bounce of "Import", the bass-driven mood music of "Stepgroove", and that familiar vocal loop of a certain classic on the Kerri Chandler influenced "Friends", he then introduces some distinctly UK flavour into the fold on the deep down and dirty groove of closing track "Bhouse".

Work That - (6:09) 126 BPM Hot

Manta - (6:29) 130 BPM
Review: Austrian producer DOS showed promise via a handful of quietly confident EPs in 2017 and 2018, but has been surprisingly silent since. Happily, this return to action on debutant label ROOS is not only a fine return to action, but in our opinion also his strongest single to date. Opener "Lucid Dreams" is a near perfect slab of saucer-eyed house retro-futurism, with dreamy vocal snippets, tactile pads and MK style organ stabs riding a crunchy breakbeat-house groove. He employs similar hip-house breaks and melodic elements on the bubbly and energetic "Work That", while "Got To Do" is a warming chunk of ear-pleasing US deep house goodness. Arguably best of all, though, is bustling, rave-igniting closing cut "Manta", where woozy riffs and weighty sub-bass hit home hard.
