Review: Montreal-based twosome The Neighbors made their SHANGO bow in the summer of 2022 via the 'Are We Home' EP, a four-track collection of glossy - if trippy - house tracks smothered in evocative Latin and African percussion. Here they return to the "electronic Afrotropicalismo" specialists with 'Damaged Goods', a woozy, sweet and atmospheric chunk of vocal deep house that incorporates nods to the more psychedelic end of tech-house and the label's usual global fusion sounds. The accompanying remix package is strong too. DJ Sergee delivers a rolling and dreamy deep house take, Guy Mangan opts for an All Day I Dream style neo-progressive sound, Holy Moly make it deep, hypnotic and bubbly, and Laura Scava delivers chunky tech-house beats, layered percussion, chiming melodies and alluring electronic bleeps.
