Review: Longstanding German chopper Young Ax has been laying down gospels of gritty, gold and gully natures for well over 10 years now. And you can tell... There's a great late 90s Hospital vibe to each of these three sample-based swingers. Both "Love Galaxy" and "Summer Breeze" operate on really hazy vocal harmonies that give them a sleep, woozy feel while "Strawberry Close" has a little more emphasis on the jazz swing with big old flappy double bass and shimmering guitar twangs. Heavenly.

Review: German upstart Northern Zone isn't messing around. Following a series of outings on Limitless he makes his EP debut on Santorin with his largest body of work to date. Each cut as cosmically edged as the last, he's handcrafted a unique journey full of surprises; from the fluttering beats on "Lane 93" to darker rumbling underbelly on "Last Breath" by way of the filtered jazz tones and crackly vinyl textures of "Cold Blooded" there's all manner of evidence of a mature producer who knows how to show restraint but still be red blooded about his sound. Review: German representors Santorin ante up ahead of their Drum & Bass Poetry album with the first of two samplers. Here we find label co-founder Simon V get mucky on an international jaunt with the US and Finnish skills of Stunna and Physics. The result is dreamy, piano-laden vocal number that surges with Sigma-style electricity. Simon goes it alone on "Night Sail" with an even deeper, reflective number. Coded with a nagging riff, floating pads and a waterfall sub, it's an ideal warm-up or end-of-night hug-track. Emotional.

Review: The second of two samplers ahead of their multi-artist, myriad-shade album Drum & Bass Poetry, Santorin unite two longstanding bass masters west coast beardy man Random Movement and Cardiff chaos stirrer Dan Marshall. "Current Situation" oozes liquid soul with its sprinkled keys and woozy horns but there's a much darker underbelly rolling beneath. "Strike It On", meanwhile, sees Polish murker Silence Groove go all early Brookes Brothers with a rolling bass affair adorned with a yearning soulful vocal. Poetry in motion.
