Review: Next up from the forward thinking sounds of Sapyens, we see them welcome the wonderful musical mind of Kimber, who unleashes a display of brain-warming production wizardry with 'Random Steps', a seven-track exploration of electronic sound design in its purest forms. The introduction of 'Mental Oriental' is a perfect example of this, with engulfing warm sub tones flooding the mix, topped with reverberated melodic pressure and popping percussion throughout. The gunner-like bass probes of 'Random Step' and scattered rhythmic bliss of 'State Of Kenshiro' then follow, both adding to the incredible depth of the project as a whole before the dissonant chord progressions and organic sounding drum designs of 'Friendly Fire' take things to a whole new level.

Review: Having appeared deep in a compilation for Berlin's Through These Eyes Records, Bristol's Polo Lilli is given a full debut on Dj Alyaz's Sapyens label with this five-track debut EP, Trust. Throwing down all matter of breaks, melodies and basslines dubs in "Leave", cut up jungle, two step and 5-0 sirens fall into a pit of deep subbiness in "Geology". The title track turns in a frenetic and heavily tremolo reflective number of synths and feel good atmospheres, while more beatdown UK hip hop arrives in "Magnolia (feat 1990s Chris)". And for your touch of frenetic future funk, hit up "Care". All you gotta do.

Review: Czech producer Self surfaces on Dj Alyaz's Sapyens label outta Prague with solid four-track remix EP that stems from a 10" white label released in early 2018. Drawing in four new mixes that take in variations of grime, broken beat, dub and jungle hybrids, Drop Top throws a reference to all those hatchback hoodies out there. Paradiso throws down some heavy shade with its deeper atmospheres and two-stepping drums while the 160VIP mix is sparse in design and overtly dubstep. London's Otik, known for releases on Keysound and Nous dips in 130bpm techno territory in his mix with OldGold hot on jungle classicalisms. A secret weapon gets reloaded.

Review: It's now time to dive into some potent new school funky, as Sheik lands on Sapyens for two wicked original recordings, showcasing exactly where the funky scene is at and why we need to pay attention. The title track 'Lion Mountain' is a percussion-heavy roller, backed by tripletted bell percussion and moogy bass tones below, bringing moody energy from the start. The flip side then gives us 'In Or Out', a more high tempo puncher, driven by arpeggiated melodies and crispy drum switches. We are then joined for two very exciting remixes as Geist get's busy with his crunchy bass heavy refix of 'Lion Mountain', followed by Kouslin's futuristic bashment overhaul of 'In Or Out'. Excellent stuff as per from all involved!

Review: That Sapyens imprint is kind of killing it with the bass moves at the moment, shooting new artists across our charts, week in and week out. K.R. UFO has landed himself a spot on the catalogue, making this the producer's second EP to date and another fine assemblage If trap-laden dance sounds. "Burning Fire" stops and starts it's groove amid a wave of chopped up vocal samples and general percussive slewing that we know how to get down with; "Easy" is the moodier of the two cuts, kicking off with a slower tempo and sitting closer to the r&b end of the scale. Both prime trap bangers, in our books!

Review: DEPF comes through with the Sapyens label's sixth outing thus far, touching down with some seriously ethereal bass vibes. Going beyond the regular formulas, DEPF's first tune, "Relic", has sharp, edgy bass at its core but the emotion and mystique comes from the smoky haze of the synths circling above it. "Monolith" is a sharper, moodier tune that blends drums and bass into an imperceptible cocktail of sonics, while the Squane remix of "Relic" transforms the original cut into a more dance-centric joint, adding in a subtle 4/4 structure to give it the right kind of movement.
