Review: The somewhat enigmatic Save The Black Beauty label returns with the return of Guess Disco! Telecaster is the follow up to last year's Metropolis album and it sees the producer turn in two originals, with the rhythm-guitar lead, cosmic burner Telecaster; a track that over 10 minutes sees the influence of jazzy rhodes and pan pipes to hand percussions and acoustic bass cruise through an epic funkified, disco journey. "No Guest List (The Preacher Is In The House)" sees the sultriness of a 'it's Berlin baby' vocal meet Guess Disco's own, held down by licks of a funk guitar and sparkling Italo synth line. Amika's remix dilutes the original down for a softer reprise of the original fixed by its tambourine percussion and eastern motif influence whereas Dima Studitsky calls on the spirit of Donna Summer and Giorgio Moroder!
Review: Sound familiar? You're not wrong; indeed it is the legendary Martini Bros aka Mike Vamp and DJ Cle of Poker Flat fame. The Berlin duo who threw down some amazing minimal and deep house records in the early noughties took a hiaitus for some time, but they're now back reinvigorated more than ever. Now that we've cleared up the new spelling of their name, let's get on to the music. The dreamy "Lovetrain" is for woozy Sunday afternoon shenanigans on a rooftop somewhere with its smooth vocals and heartwarming strings. "Exciting" delves deeper with more great vocal work, steel drums and Rhodes piano; all you need really. "Dancing Queen" takes a turn for funky nu-disco vibes which is properly suited to Summertime style grooves. The remix of is by Fadi Hachem Larry gets more underground, sleazy and a tad darker; pretty good actually!
