Review: It's some 22 years since Joshua Brent adopted the Schatrax moniker and began to develop his brand of deep house/Detroit techno fusion. His first big hit was arguably 1995's "Mispent Years", which here gets a deserved digital re-release. It remains something of a tech-house classic, effortlessly mixing the atmospheric hypnotism and driving rhythms of Motor City techno, with the melodic beauty and winding chords of classic deep house. This time round, it's backed by "Slumber Kings", which appears to be a previously unreleased jam from the same period. Deep, trippy and trance inducing, it blends a head-in-the-clouds attitude with the kind of rolling, restless groove that should suit sleazy warehouses and dark, intimate spaces.
