Shall Not Fade

hall Not Fade, hailing from Bristol, England, is a record label established in 2015 that champions electronic music with a forward-thinking twist. Inspired by the everlasting spirit of summer, the label's name reflects their dedication to timeless, genre-bending releases.

Founded by Kieran Williams, Shall Not Fade has become a breeding ground for rising stars and established artists alike. Denney & King Crowney - "Dance With Me" - (5:34) 128 BPM Hot
Anni 80 - (6:14) 124 BPM
Review: James Denny may not get the media coverage of some of his contemporaries, but his track record - which includes singles on REKIDS, Hot Creations and Crosstown Rebels - is exemplary. It makes sense, then, that Shall Not Fade boss Kieran Williams has added him to the label's ever-expanding roster. Opener 'Dans La Nuit', a charging and sample-rich slab of peak-time house joy rich in jazzy guitar licks, bouncy beats and 'Knights of the Jaguar' sty;e synth strings, is the pick of a very strong bunch, but the other two tracks on show are excellent too. King Crowney collaboration 'Dance With Me' is a sizzling and humid, percussion-and-trumpet-heavy slab of Latin house hedonism, while 'Anni 80' sees him create hands-aloft gold out of unfussy house beats and synth-heavy samples from a long-forgotten 1980s treat.

Review: Although it might still be too soon to call Texan producer DJ Poolboi a legend, his music is certainly starting to lean the way of legendary, with lo-fi house the artist's trademark. It's the boi's third album in four years across three labels and first on Shall Not Fade in which he's become something of a figure head, and Into The Blue Light signals potential for AOTY (Album of the Year). Filled with deep and impactful emotion, melancholy and warmth, it's a long player that pulls at the heart-strings while firing up the dancefloor with chords, keys and melodies that hit those sweet spots, while booming in kick, bass and drums. Highlights include opener, "Won't Let You Ruin My Mood", the pop-aqua rave of "For The Last Time" and some piano-driven Moby inspirations in "The Joy You Once Felt".

Review: Following years spent flitting between labels including Toy Tonics and Razor N Tape Reserve, COEO make their bow on Shall Not Fade. In keeping with the Bristol label's approach to digital releases, it's an expansive and action-packed affair. Title track 'Planet Earth' is one of the Munich-based duo's more forthright cuts to date - a thrusting, bongo-laden techno tempo rave workout propelled forwards by an insanely good (and rubbery) electronic bassline and psychedelic acid lines aplenty - while 'Satellite Bay' sounds like a cross between early '90s synth-pop, Kraftwerk and Euro-dance. Elsewhere, 'Rush Hour' gloriously joins the dots between hip-house, vintage MK productions and the Pet Shop Boys' Relentless' album; 'Kawasaki Racing Club' combines breakbeats and early UK progressive house sounds; and 'The Stage Is Yours' is a head-nodding, midtempo acid breaks affair.

Review: Alan Fitzpatrick's latest release starts with the crackle of vinyl and dubbed out drums on "Patience". It marks the beginning of a track - and a release - that is less characteristic for the storied producer. Gentle pulses and a rickety back beat guide these elements, leading the listener to a hypnotic place where woozy chords prevail. Along the way, "Patience" drops into seductive breakdowns. Fitzpatrick teams up with Reset Robot on "Mule Subjective". Led by robust break beats, it sees the duo weave swirling melodies into the arrangement. "Neptune Realms" is even further removed from Fitzpatrick's typical sound, with serene ambient textures flowing and ebbing mournfully.

Review: Shall Not Fade has reached the ripe old age of eight, a cause for celebration in these troubled times for artists and labels. To mark the occasion, the Bristol-based imprint has offered up this vast, 34-track compilation featuring new and unheard cuts from its ever-expanding family of artists. Naturally, it not only reflects Shall Not Fade's output, but also that of its various offshoots and series. So, there's plenty of high-grade deep house and immersive, breakbeat-driven deepness, but also surging, high-tempo rave-era nostalgia (see the tracks by TESTPRESS and Sheffield sorts Adelphi Music Factory), bassline (ABSOLUTE & HRSN), futurist techno (Marc Brauner), deep electro (Halo), hip-hop revivalism (Lydia Eisenbatter), progressive house and trance-influenced loveliness (MNL), and much more besides.

Review: After a run of releases on his own SlothAcid imprint, Sacha Robotti makes his bow on Bristol-based Shall Not Fade. Interestingly, it features a clutch of collaborations, JSMN adding dead-eyed, stylised spoken word vocals to the hands-aloft, increasingly percussive piano house rush of 'U+I', before Tessla joins Robotti on two tracks: the swirling electronics, restless builds and energetic releases of 'That Feelin' and the more warped, heavyweight and mind-mangling peak-time sweat of 'Be Your Baby'. Elsewhere, 'All I Know' is another rushing, seemingly colossal slab of mid-90s piano house energy, and 'Deeper Love' sees Robotti make merry with a classic house acapella, heavy house drums and raw bass.

Review: Still reeling from the release of his debut LP Between Fragments last year - Cologne-based artists Kolter, something of house music mainstay, brings his sound to Shall Not Fade for the first time. Turning in a luscious four track EP, it brings with it one-and-a-half collaborations, the first being the lead cut - "Please Come To My Show" - with Leo Pol, who not only co-produces but also lends his soulful vocals to the mix; with the second being a remix from Berlin house darling Cinthie of the track "Up In The Sky". With a strong '90s mid-west and Chicago sound permeating this EP, get deep and smoove with "DX7 Together" with that real town funk bassline and undeniable deepness. Welcome back Kolter.

Review: Almost three years to the day from his last outing for Shall Not Fade, a contribution to their occasional 'Basement Trax' series, Huxley returns to KW's prolific imprint with a rock-solid four-track EP. The long-serving producer kicks things off in style via 'Cuttin' Corners', a bouncy, jazzy and breezy chunk of UKG-influenced deep house warmth, before opting for a darker, more excitable and warehouse-ready sound on certified throb-job 'Give Me Love'. Arguably even better is the tracky, hypnotic and percussion-rich deep tribal house number 'MYHEART', which is the kind of thing we think Junior Vasquez could have played at the Sound Factory, while 'Love Lifting' is a swirling, stomping, all-action treat.

Review: If record labels are extended musical families, then Shall Not Fade's is bigger than most. Viggo Dyst is perhaps not the most high-profile member of that vast and growing family, but the Swedish producer is certainly an active one. This two-tracker marks his third outing on the Bristol-based imprint in less than two years. It boasts a candidate for the most celebratory and life-affirming club cut of 2023 - the gorgeous, 130 BPM house romp that is 'Did We Break Up', where rushing piano motifs, colourful chords, cut-up vocal samples and an addictive bassline catch the ear - and a deeper, more intergalactic-sounding gem called 'You Got'. Built around a minimalist, custom-made broken house-meets-two-step beat, ultra-spacey pads and hip-hop vocal samples, it's a genuinely glassy-eyed treat.

It's an excitable and pleasingly varied set all told, with Winkels sprinting between sweat-soaked techno-funk ('DHL Expressure'), UK garage-meets-Mood II Swing heaviness ('Back To OPZ'), post-bassline UKG/techno fusion ('It's a Lo', 'Lost Art Orly'), organ-sporting chunky house weightiness ('Material Views'), loose-limbed London style tech-house grooves (the bass-heavy 'Ain't You'), and bleeping deep garage goodness ('Liquid Stick').

Bold electronic melodies, doom-laden 'Hoover' bass and breathless techno beats are the order of the day on 'Only Me', while 'In My Mind' wraps sharp, heavily edited rave riffs around another booming bassline and tribal techno drums. Title track 'Is It Raining In Berlin' sees him blend chunky house beats with deep bass and infectious melodic motifs, while 'So Good' is a booming, bassline-driven breakbeat house monster and 'Creeper' is a deep, ghostly and hypnotic house number that sprints along at a techno tempo.

Review: As her relatively recently Heist and Aus releases proved, Cinthie Christl has become an expert at creating nostalgic-sounding tracks that offer subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) references to US house cuts of the 1990s. On this debut Shall Not Fade outing, Christl continues in this vein, first via the rolling beats, undulating analogue bass and spacey musical motifs of 'Tough Times'. She then joins the dots between late '90s Strictly Rhythm dubs and bouncy New Jersey garage grooves ('Shuffle & Swing'), before laying down a stellar slice of dubby and sub-heavy deep house hypnotism ('Bossa').'Time To F', a breezy and sun-splashed affair marked out by steppers-influenced deep house beats, squelchy bass and restless riffs, rounds of the EP in fine style.

Review: Over the last 15 years, few producers have released quite as much high-quality dancefloor fare as Alan Fitzpatrick. Somewhat predictably, his latest EP - a label debut for Bristol-based imprint Shall Not Fade - is another must-check missive. He's scored something of a coup, too, by recruiting Chicago 'ghetto-dance' legend DJ Deeon to add his evocative spoken word vocals to 'Shake That Thing', a deliciously spacey chunk of analogue house brilliance whose evocative chords and restless rhythm track will bring joy to many dancefloors this summer. Rising star DJOKO remixes, doffing a cap to the early 2000s work of UK tech-house stalwarts Swag on a deliciously swinging, loose-limbed rub. Fitzpatrick then delivers a bouncy, life-affirming chunk of disco-house hedonism, 'Learning to Love', which is pure pleasure from start to finish.

Review: Whenever we see the Shall Not Fade title hovering above a new LP project, we get very excited here at JunoDownload. This is with good reason as Jaymie Silk arrives with a sumptuous display of electronic mastery entitled 'The Rise & Fall Of Jaymie Silk & Rave Culture', exploring the most broad spectrum of electronic production. We open up with the eerie vocal effects and shuffling rhythms of ;Freedom For Everybody', which sets the tone very well amidst a bed of 808 stabs and glitchy fx, before the more euphoric shuffling breaks of 'The Heat' and intense dancefloor stabs of 'Stop Singing, Start Swinging' are let loose. That feeling of nostalgic euphoria then returns as 'Party Downstairs' really does get the party started, followed closely by the more moogy textures of 'Bad B' and post-funky influenced drum designs of 'Cats Love Drums'. We then explore two final heaters, with the gorgeous vocal processing and carnival-like drum structures of 'Waiting For The Day' and super lofi arrangements of 'Take Time To Breathe' closing out the project with some serious style. Awesome work!

With a strong affinity to the sounds of disco clearly apparent in the music of Rees, he delivers the label a chunk of heavy cosmic and synthwave influences - conjuring epic scenes of what Rimini might have been like back in the day. With that you'll find pumping '80s snare drums to make Roger Linn proud alongside some adorable rainbow road motifs in the title track - next to some New York loft party vibes in "Velvet Dreams". Nu Romancer!

Review: Some two years after making their breakthrough on Strictly Rhythm, Bodhi return to action via a first outing on Shall Not Fade. The Cardiff-based duo are in fine form throughout, giddily bouncing between styles without losing any of their trademark panache. bOver the course of the EP's five tracks, the Welsh twosome flits between driving, mind-altering sweatiness (stomping, psychedelic house opener 'SQU'), dreamy and spacey breakbeat (the saucer-eyed swell of 'Rounds'), sub-heavy electro (the pulsating and breathless 'Drop One'), ambient techno-meets-vintage D&B gorgeousness (the wavy synths sounds, minimalistic percussion and sampled voices of 'Solaris') and thrillingly grimy, ultra-aggressive revivalist jungle ('Junction 93'). A pleasingly varied, on-point excursion.

Review: Byron Blaylock's last extended outing, last year's brilliant Ambrosia on Jeff Mills' Axis label, delivered a perfect balance between live, colourful jazz-funk instrumentation and club-ready deep house grooves. The Alabama native taps into that sound again on The New Beginning, his third full length excursion, while also reppin' head-nodding instrumental hip-hop, sci-fi seeped future boogie, dusty jazz, spacey peak-time club workouts and jaunty dancefloor jazz. Such is the quality on show, picking individual highlights is tough, though our current favourites include the sax-laden romp 'Universal Insanity', the piano-sporting deep house breeziness of 'Cosmic Dub', the Motor City influenced wonder of 'The End of the World' and the sparkling, Dam Funk-esque 'Smoke One For Huckaby'.

Review: When Shall Not Fade launched their Classic Cuts series, it was DJ PoolBoi who provided the first EP - a fine collection of cuts titled Rarities. Here the Austin, Texas-based producer delivers a timely sequel, once again tiptoeing the fine line between outsider house, lo-fi fuzziness, colourful positivity, early morning jazziness and loose-limbed, loved-cheeriness. Such is the quality on show that picking highlights is tough, though we're particularly enjoying the melodious melancholia of bittersweet closing cut 'Early You', the piano-laden deep house shuffle of sublime opener 'I Know You Tried' and the hissing nu-jazz mutation that is 'Yesterday'.

Review: In the press release accompanying this label debut from Loure, Shall Not Fade classifies the four tracks on show as "elated and explorative house". There's certainly a loved-up, life-affirming positivity on show throughout, from the breakbeat driven deep house dreaminess of kaleidoscopic, glassy-eyed opener 'Grip', to the acid-flecked, sunrise-ready swell of string-drenched closing cut 'Breath of Light', where lilting lead lines offer a yearning and breath-taking focal point. Sandwiched in between you'll find the immersive, gently unfurling chunkiness of 'Inner Side' and the synth bass-propelled bounciness of 'Two Dimes Deep', where sharp acid lines and elongated pads catch the ear.

Review: Next up on Shall Not Fade is Mark Blair with a storming release. The title track resounds to an ebm-style bass and rude-boy vocal sample, with the arrangement also boasting a frazzled acid line that swarms in and out randomly. On "Smackos Tape Station", Blair ups the tempo to deliver a killer combination of razor-sharp percussion and menacing 303s, before taking a sideways turn for "Prince of Persia". Featuring a mesmerising Middle Eastern riff and deft filters, these elements make for a more nuanced track. "Distress Call" marks another shift, as Blair delivers a visceral minimal affair, while on "Bleep Haus", his beloved 303 re-appears, this time realised as a tweaked, tonal banger.

Review: With DJs like Annie Mac and Patrick Topping already supporting her work, Meg Ward is tipped for big things, and this debut release for Shall Not Fade will further build her profile. The title track is a breezy, high-octane affair, with Ward combining insistent acid licks with tight claps and a steely rhythm. It makes for a musical but impactful piece of techno. On "Real Hawt", she opts to use different tactics. Deploying a looped vocal sample over a rolling groove, the emerging UK artist adds hardcore stabs to the arrangement to devastating effect. Rest assured we'll be hearing more about Meg Ward soon.

Review: Is there a more on-form deep house producer around than Felipe Gordon? If there is, we've not come across them. The Colombian can do no wrong right now and his latest EP for Shall Not Fade is another must-check affair. He goes in hard to begin with, peppering a retro-futurist Chicago house groove with heady piano riffs and tactile chords on 'Analog Only', before cannily combining jazz-funk bass, Herbie Hancock synths and sturdy deep house beats on 'Continuous Develop'. Fans of jazz-house will love the vintage St Germain vibes - albeit with a touch of squelchy synth-bass - of 'Keepin' It Jazz' and the more becalmed 'Looking Your Reflection on the Water'. Closing cut 'What You Say', a simply sumptuous chunk of warming, heavy-eyed deep house headiness, is also excellent.

Review: Earlier in the year, Hackney twosome Kassian joined Shall Not Fade following a few years spent hopping between labels including Phonica White, Heist and Groovence. There's a more forthright, peak-time-ready feel to the pair's second Shall Not Fade outing, with opener 'Breathe' offering an alluring amalgamation of driving beats, stabbing bass, trippy female vocal samples and echoing, warehouse-ready motifs. They opt for a cheery, sparkling and sun-kissed sound on the bouncy, melody-rich 'Aerial', before wrapping shimmering synth sounds around a crunchy breakbeat, glassy-eyed deep house chords and UKG organ riffs on excellent closing cut 'London Orbital'.

Review: Berlin's Marc Brauner returns to Shall Not Fade, following up the impressive Rarities EP released back in March. The Houseum and Nostalgics main man serves up more old school style jams on the Patience EP. Opening cut "Your Heart" is absolutely infectious with its familiar groove reminiscent of late '90s classics by Robin S. or Nightcrawlers, then gives a respectful nod to the Motor City on the high tech jazz of "Optimist" (and similarly on the acid infused "Faster") before getting deep down and dirty on the late night mood music of "Be Patient". In addition to those, there's some of that classic Stateside bounce on the swing-fuelled closer "In Love".

Review: Michael Baltra has been in fine form over the last few years, showcasing his distinctive brand of lo-fi house via two fine albums and a steady stream of singles on labels including Of Paradise, lost Palms and Local Action. Predictably, he's carried that form into this EP, a label debut for Shall Not Fade headed up by the sparkling, sweet and swirling disco-house haziness of killer title track 'Dreaming of a Disco'. Baltra ups the tempo and the dancefloor pressure on excitable disco-techno fusion slammer 'Imaginary Laughter', before reaching for summery piano riffs, sparkling electronics and layered drums on the lusciously sunny 'Private Paradise'. He then rounds off a superb EP via the razor-sharp strings, mazy vibraphone solos, dewy-eyed vocalizations, psychedelic acid lines and bouncy grooves of 'Sunset Jam'.

Review: Irish producer Mark Laird is the latest rising star to contribute to Shall Not Fade's excellent Killer Cuts series. Random is perhaps not as skittish as the title suggests, but the EP is certainly an eclectic affair. He begins in energetic and confident fashion via the stomping ghetto-house-meets-DJ-Mujave goodness of 'Bet', before blending Todd Edwards style garage and Dance Mania heaviness on 'I Just Wanna'. '4 Cruisin' is a lusciously glassy-eyed chunk of retro-futurist deep house headiness, while 'Woosh' is a seriously great slab of two-step/rave-era piano-house fusion. 'Ghetto Booty', an entertaining bounce through DJ Sneak territory full of bumpin' beats, nagging organ stabs and weighty bass, completes an excellent package.

Review: Cinthie Christl's 2020 debut album, Skylines - City Lights, was arguably one of the best dancefloor-focused full-length excursions of recent years, with a distinctly retro-futurist vibe that undoubtedly chimed with listeners. There's a similarly timeless and feelgood flex about the Berlin-based producer's first EP for Shall Not Fade. After opening with the sparkling, smile-inducing piano house revivalism of 'Offenbach Anthem', Christl confidently bounces between swinging deep house chunkiness ('13 Steps to Heaven'), organ-powered, sub-heavy New Jersey garage goodness (EP highlight 'Oh No No No', which sounds like a late-night basement anthem in waiting) and bumpin' brilliance ('What You Mean To Me', whose main attractions are a seriously squelchy bassline and superbly sweaty drums).

Review: Sheffield sorts Adelphi Music Factory have previously proved adept at channeling 30-odd years of Steel City house heritage, with nods to U.S garage, gospel and deep house being fused with darker, heavier and more industrial-strength musical elements. They're at it again on Electric Arc Furnace, first paying tribute to a legendary Sheffield club night on the sweaty, loopy and party-hearty heaviness of 'Jive Turkey'), before bouncing through tactile disco-house territory on 'Rejoice With Me (I Need You)'. 'Sample Seduction' meanwhile is a piano and stab-heavy slab of warehouse-ready bedlam that would definitely have gone down well in Steel City nightclubs back in the '90s. Three extended club mixes are included to complete a very strong package.

Review: Despite the raging global pandemic, 2020 was still a good year for Earth Boys, who followed up their acclaimed earlier releases on 1080p and Public Possession with a really rather good album on Shall Not Fade (the must-check Earth Tones). Here they return with a similarly impressive release, effortlessly bouncing between sax-laden deep house/bumpin' garage fusion ('Automatic'); percussion-rich piano-house intoxication ('Okokok', with its delay-laden vocal samples); enveloping, turn-of-the-'90s style dream house (the frankly irrepressible and wonderfully saucer-eyed 'Revolution 420'); early St Germain style jazz-house (EP highlight 'Hush') and slap-bass/sax solo-sporting sunset groover 'Love Got You', a fine collaboration with J.T Donaldson.

Their latest EP- a first Shall Not Fade outing from 19-year-old French producer THEOS - is packed to the rafters with "no-filler, dancefloor-oriented house music". THEOS's trademark style is spacey and funky, effortlessly joining the dots between French touch, wide-eyed futurism and the groovy end of of Gallic tech-house. His high-quality threshold is clearly apparent on Free From, the Irish producer's latest EP for Kieran Williams' Shall Not Fade imprint. Across the five original cuts showcased on the EP, Ejeca confidently struts between neo-trance/high-octane techno fusion ('Stoke It'), rave-igniting, warehouse-ready stompers ('Faith', 'Free From'), deep and intergalactic electro ('The Basics') and warming, sunrise-ready deep house headiness ('Looksee'). Also worthy of your attention is Cinthie's superb remix of 'Free From', which re-casts it as a late '90s style Chez Damier deep house bumper.
