The Duck House EP
Babert - "Disco Duck" - (5:46) 124 BPM Hot
Babert & Rion S - "Vision" - (6:46) 124 BPM
Review: Remarkably, Babert has now been serving up dancefloor treats for well over a decade. Along the way, he's released on a wide variety of well-regarded labels including Soulfuric Deep, Sleazy Deep, Nervous and Club Sweat. Here he adds another label to his CV via a first outing on Simma Black. He kicks things off with "Disco Duck", a sparkling, forthright and formidably funky affair that wraps filtered disco samples, warehouse-ready electronics and spoken word snippets around a chunky, speaker-bothering house groove. Equally as impressive is Rion S collaboration "Vision", a big room-focused bass-heavy bounce that's more muscular than a dedicated Gym bunny and infinitely more ripped. It's darker and more moody than the A-side, but every bit as funky.

Review: Simma Black has been in fine form of late, so it's no surprise to find that this bustling collection of new music and recent label highlights, compiled to coincide with the dance music industry's annual weeklong celebration in Miami, is something of a belter. There's plenty of variety across the peak-time ready tracklist, from the intense, trance-like builds and classic U.S house style grooves of Low Steppa's "One Day" and the piano house-plus-wobble bass brilliance of Martyin Badder's "Feel Loved", to the bumpin' New Jersey garage revivalism of Greco's "Move Your Body" and the dark, angular, bass-heavy late night filth that is David Keno's "Rip & Pop".

What Did You Do? EP
What Did You Do? - (6:30) 124 BPM
Make It Groove - (6:12) 124 BPM Hot
Review: Simma Black is a UK label that divides its time between London and the Midlands. They specialise in commercial but edgy house and this latest release by relative newcomers Weikum is a perfect example. The first of the two tracks featured here is "What You Do To Me?" which is a mid-paced, sultry electro-house jam - all undulating bass, clap-along rhythms and snippets of soulful vocals. On the digital flipside "Make It Grove" is essentially a dubby/tech house rework of the title track that spans nearly seven trippy minutes.

My House (Remixes)
My House (Greco (NYC) remix) - (6:21) 123 BPM Hot
My House (Italobros remix) - (6:10) 125 BPM
My House (Waitz remix) - (6:51) 123 BPM
Review: Brummies Simma Black threw us the absolutely wicked "My House" by Low Steppa and New York City legend Mr V in late 2016 but now it's time for the remixes: and yes they are all absolutely kickin'! First up is Italian Waitz with his stomping jam that even uses some Joey Beltram style mentasms in the mix for good measure. The Italian connection continues with Calabrian duo Italo Bros throwing down a hard house rendition that has earned them releases on the likes of I'm A House Gangster and then New York City's Greco who has appeared on MadTech and Toolroom and he really brings the track home with that proper NYC basement vibe.

Hold Skul EP
Hold Skul - (7:27) 121 BPM
Red Road - (6:48) 121 BPM Hot
Review: Regular studio buddies Jazzman Wax and Iban Montero enjoyed a productive 2016, releasing sought-after tracks on such labels as Robsoul, Exploited, Nervous, MoodyHouse and Greenhouse Recordings. Here they join forces once more to deliver their first outing on Will Bailey's Simma Black. They begin in typically confident mood on "Hold Skul" [sic], layering rich organ stabs, swirling vocal samples and woozy chords atop a loose, sweaty and cymbal-heavy deep house rhythm track. The humid, sweat-soaked peak-time feel continues on "Red Road", a bumping, disco-influenced house smasher built around rubbery electric bass, effects-laden vocal samples, bouncy beats and rising horn motifs. This is shamelessly good-time music of the highest order.

Roots Of House EP
Roots Of House (original mix) - (6:50) 124 BPM Hot
Roots Of House (dub) - (6:50) 124 BPM
The Ghetto Mind (original mix) - (5:14) 124 BPM
Review: Veteran producer Pierre Demuir has largely impressed since resurrecting his career in 2013, in the process releasing a swathe of fine EPs for such labels as Farris Wheel, Nite Grooves, Great Lakes Audio, and Frosted Recordings. This solid three-tracker marks his first appearance on Simma Recordings' offshoot Simma Black. Given the title, it's little surprise to find that "The Roots of House" is a loose, groovy and funk-fuelled affair, with clear funk, soul and disco influences amongst the bumpin' beats, effects-laden guitar lines and righteous spoken word vocals. It's accompanied by a tasty, vocal-free Dub, and a dusty, sample-heavy deep house roller (think Andres with heavier bass) entitled "The Ghetto Mind".

Feel The Bass EP
Feel The Bass (original mix) - (7:00) 125 BPM Hot
Feel The Bass (LongPlay remix) - (6:40) 125 BPM
Praise The Day (original mix) - (6:16) 124 BPM
Review: The Let's Play House White label is up and running with this disco-not-disco collaborative EP, and we have to say that we're digging each one of these five floor-melters. Badman Jacques Renault sets the gears in motion with the house-powered "Where Do We Go", all pianos and rolling beats, followed by Mr Guy and the slow, sample-heavy chugger called "Luv Magic" - check that bass! Jesse Rudoy leans to an ore string-led disco swagger with "What U Do", "Just Give Me Joy" by Elvin Tibideux is a heavy disco slinger with a groove that you could just leave on repeat for eternity, and Private Panther's "Desire" is the perfect blend between old and new thanks to its dusty house beats and winding guitar loops. Recommended and not to be underestimated!

Review: Here's Dennis Quin with a new LP of solid, summer-ready house magic on Simma Black. He's increasingly becoming a specialist in the field, and each one of these ten big room pumpers slides onto the CD with utter ease: we love the bumps and wobble of "Brainfreeze", the garage-leaning Chicago banger "Fake Fantasy", and the mighty hard house closer "I Feel So Good". This is pure heat for you to get your weekend nights ballin'.
