Sistrum Recordings imprint was launched in October of 2006 by Patrice Scott, one of Detroit's top producers of Deep House and Techno music with the mission to provide abstract, quality music that deviates from the norm. From the first release by Patrice Scott himself to today, he and Systrum’s family have released numerous of tracks pushing boundaries in house and techno while keeping some sense of traditional Detroit sounds. A key stone release might be Patrice Scott’s first album ‘Euphonium’ in 2015 mostly focusing on dancefloor material, with some downtempo excursions.
Review: Since debuting with an EP of Detroit revivalism on ClekClekBoom a couple of years back, Parisian DJ/producer Aleqs Notal has been touted as one to watch. Ascending Nodes is his first release of 2017, and switches from Detroit techno to melodious deep house. "Echoes" is a sublime piece of electronic machine soul, with cascading melody lines, fluttering synth solos and rich chords riding a smooth but skittish groove. It feels a little like a cross between Nu Guinea and Rick Wade, which is no bad thing. Carry on for the bongo-driven deep house dreaminess of "This Way", and the Larry Heard meets Ron Trent bliss of "Unhidden Blues". Notal is clearly a talented producer, but this EP proves that he also has the musicianship to match.
