Review: Some all-star antics here, as techno/tech-house titans David Squillace, Martin Buttrich and Matthias Tanzman present their debut album as Better Lost Than Stupid, following a handful of well-received singles on Skint. While there are some nods towards their dancefloor heritage, for the most part Wild Slide (Reprise) is a more sofa-friendly affair, with the trio wrapping atmospheric electronics, krautrock-influenced analogue synth sounds, trippy effects, flowery piano motifs and the quietly soulful vocals of Swindon's own CHANEY around deep bass and gentle, off-kilter beats. It's far more cosmic and otherworldly than many would expect, delivering a retro-futurist trip through hazy electronica that many will find pleasingly evocative and addictive.
