Ruff Stuff & Bress Underground - "Something About It" - (6:07) 126 BPM
Review: SlothBoogie's latest missive brings together two stalwarts of the Italian house scene, Ruff Stuff and Bress Underground, for the first time. The EP begins with two solo excursions from the former, with the warming, sub-bass-and-organ-heavy tactility of 'Foundations' being followed by the driving, spacey and gently acid-flecked throb of 'Sliding Sine', which sounds like an early morning anthem in the making. We're then treated to two top-notch collaborative cuts. 'The Community' is a rambunctious, energy-packed workout marked out by swinging, sweat-soaked house drums, sampled preacher-man vocals and drowsy deep house chords, while 'Something About It' is a fiendishly sub-heavy blend of Grant Nelson style speed garage and wide-eyed deep house.

Review: Intr0beatz, prominent figurehead in Iceland's house music landscape, has once again graced SlothBoogie with his musical prowess, this time in the form of the "Fokus EP." This collection of five meticulously crafted tracks is a deep and bouncy escapade into the realms of house music that will have your head nodding and your feet moving in perfect synchrony. It starts with "Concentrate," a dusty and nostalgic deep house jam that's like a musical time machine. Intr0beatz adeptly manipulates MPC'd piano chords, swaying hats, and vintage hip-hop-style hooks, crafting a groove that possesses a timeless allure and an irresistibly catchy quality. Next in line is 'Homage,' a soothing slab of house that lulls you into a state of musical bliss followed up by "Use What You Got" with raw, bumpin' rhythms that serve as the perfect backdrop for crystalline synths that sparkle over cavernous bass. Closing out the EP is the sexiest cut of them all, "Line." Soulful vocal chops reverberate above intricately filtered chords, while bass synth accents weave a captivating ambiance that is simply irresistible.

Review: Glaswegian house impresario Tiptoes delivers a fiery EP, Record Business, which provides a third outing on the SlothBoogie label. These tracks have been highly anticipated since he teased them at a legendary 24-hour party in Berlin, sending crowds into a frenzy of track IDs goes the story. The lead cut is a peak-hour house banger no doubt, while "Call Me" serves up some Motown loops, jackin' brass stabs, and a vocal complaint about Tiptoes' unreturned calls. "Food" then provides a deep house roller with hypnotic loops and tribal rhythms to hang on to, with Tiptoes exploring his deeper side with "Brothers & Sisters" that offers hazy beats, MPC magic, and some spoken word knowledge. "It's Only Love" then channels Motor City vibes with its soulful loops, KDJ-inspired vocals, and groovy string sections. A SlothBoogie favourite for sure.

Review: SlothBoogie's 'Dancing With Friends' series, a compilation strand showcasing cuts from both label artists and invited guests, has firmly established itself as 'one to watch'. Happily, the third volume in the series is as on-point as its predecessors. There's much to admire across the 16 tracks on show, with our picks of a very strong bunch including the sun-soaked deep house heat of Philippa's sample-heavy 'Chet's Vibe', the bumpin', post-hip-house hedonism of 'Take Back' by Sudden Moves, the dream house-goes-Detroit techno hypnotism of Ruff Stuff's 'Stab Culture', the deep acid house excellence of Baby Rollen's 'Study in Serenity' and the throbbing excellence of Donald Dust's 'Aftercare'. Throw in killer cuts from a couple of better-known artists - see the contributions from Demuir and the Revenge - and you've got another genuinely must-check release.

Sneaking Out - (6:30) 126 BPM

Nothing To Lose - (6:36) 124 BPM
Review: Last year, Berlin-based New Zealander Philippa made her production bow on Freerange after years building up a well-earned reputation as a fearsome house DJ. This follow-up for SlothBoogie is every bit as impressive as its predecessor. She starts in confident mood with 'Rainy Nights', a constantly building fusion of bluesy vocal samples, echo-laden electric piano motifs, bustling bass and St Germain-inspired house beats, before opting for a sound somewhere between Dave Lee and Soundstream on the similarly sample-rich 'Sneaking Out'. Even better is the inspired 'Come Rain Or Shine', where echoing vocal, orchestral and vocal samples ride a jazzy bassline and jazz-house beats, while 'Nothing To Lose' joins the dots between warming deep house and jazz-funk-flecked disco.

Review: Slothboogie's latest series, 'Remixing With Friends', was founded on the simplest of ideas, namely to get artists they admire to rework tracks from the label's growing catalogue. The series' debut offering is suitably strong from start to finish. Scottish slow-house veteran The Revenge delivers a pleasingly crunchy spacey and hypnotic rework of DJ Akmael's 'Strobe', before Joe Cleen re-imagines Subjoi's 'What You Do' as a deep and sensuous two-step garage workout with added sexy organ stabs and solos. International Dateline then delivers a tweak of Jesse Bru's 'Yellow Sunshine Machine' that sits somewhere between Metro Area and sparse analogue house, while Jason Hodges turns I Germin's 'Green Light' into a woozy-but-bumpin' disco-house loop jam. Best of all though is Chrissy's energetic, TB-303-propelled, breakbeat-sporting re-wire of Jesse Bru and Max Ullis's 'Big Chirp'.

Limitless (Jon Sable remix) - (7:05) 129 BPM
Review: Soul Wun's latest release, 'Searching,' is a five-track EP that delves into the dichotomy of ecstasy. The record serves as a tribute to the inner seeker within the Australian producer, Blake Carthew, as he navigates his personal journey of self-discovery, truth-seeking, and finding purpose in life. The EP's sounds and concepts have guided and consumed him equally, leading to an endless pursuit of getting lost in time while navigating the light and dark aspects of life. From the mesmerizing late-night melodies of 'Low Pressure System' to the smooth and deep rhythms of 'First E', and the soulful and evocative vibe of 'Searching,' Carthew searches for and discovers his true self on this impressive EP. Additionally, Jon Sable's playful remix of 'Limitless' adds a fresh take on the track.

Review: The UK-based record label SlothBoogie has rightly earned its reputation as one of the most respected and influential in the underground music scene, with releases spanning across a range of genres, including house, disco, funk, and techno. This time, Groovenence founder Moonee is taking the commands to deliver a blend of Afro, filter house and disco. 'Apples' features dreamy and carefree melodies, while 'Shishingo' layers smart vocal samples with airy keys and light beats, lifting the listener's spirits. The smooth and timeless mix of soul, house, and disco continues with 'Dinner At Michelle's,' and both dusty gems.

Review: 14 months on from making his bow on Slothboogie, Glaswegian fusionist Tiptoes returns to Slothboogie with another EP of excitable, dancefloor-focused blends of energy-packed rhythms, basslines and melodic motifs. The rising star hits the ground running with opener 'Techno Woo', an infectious and breathless romp that adds sweat-soaked techno weight and tempo to a funky-as-hell, disco-house style loop jam, before opting for a deeper, woozier, and hazier shuffle through classic soul-sampling dancefloor delight. 'Mars Landings' is an impressively warming, thickset dance through fireside-toasty late-night deep house goodness, while 'Strings' is a swirling, early morning sci-fi house special that boasts no less than three spinetingling breakdowns.

Review: Having previously delivered largely overlooked - but rather good - releases on Moiss Music and Closer To Truth, Mike Popov brings his I Gemin project to SlothBoogie for the very first time. The long-serving producer begins in fine fashion with 'Green Light', a warming chunk of Azymouth-influenced deep house/jazz-house fusion built around layered, loose-limbed carnival drums, before craftily combining jazz-funk instrumentation and head-nodding hip-hop beats on 'Interlude 74'. Popov returns to the dancefloor with the sample-house-goes-broken house brilliance of 'Into The Sun' - all simmering sampled strings, warming Blaxploitation soundtrack instrumentation, dub delays and layered percussion - before once again flexing his downtempo muscles on the blazed, DJ Cam style haziness of 'Yaju'.

Review: After some great releases on Happiness Therapy, Pulse Msc and Inhale Exhale, Vancouverite Jesse Bru returns on SlothBoogie Record. Joining forces with Max Ulis (Sabota) for this collaborative EP titled Similar Nature, you will first find the hypnotic dub house stomper 'Banh Mi' followed by the rolling main room tech house of 'Moisture Cult' which is equally as icy and glacial. The pair starts to mix it up after with the inclusion of the emotive electro number 'TBH' and ending with the swingy minimal house of 'Big Chirp' in the vein of the classic Cabinet Records style.

Strobe - (5:47) 120 BPM
Review: Sloth Boogie has scored something of a coup in signing this EP from DJ Aakmael (real name Greg Stewart), a producer with an impressive track record for delivering ultra-deep, high calibre fare. There's naturally plenty to savour across the EP's four tracks, from the languid, laidback shuffle of 'Hardbody'- all mazy, eyes-closed synth solos, warming riffs, dreamy chords and Theo Parrish style deep house beats - to the hazy, Omar-S-esque 'Deepshyt' and jaunty, quietly celebratory 'Strobe'. Our pick of an incredible strong bunch is 'Track 166', if only for the quality of the jazzy piano solos that sit atop Stewart's woozy chords and locked-in beats.

Review: The SlothBoogie team have delivered a real treat with this one as Mike FOT & Scruscru team up for the epic sounds of 'Spliff Jamz Vol 2'. We open up with the acidic sounding synthesis and constantly shifting rhythmic backdrops of 'K60K', which despite being a slow burner, continues to grow and expand as we listen. The future-house chord textures and bubbling basslines of 'Enjoint' then follow, adding a serious dose of energy to the EP, before 'Hummus Dealer' unleashes a very organic set of drum sounds to launch the dance into a next level of euphoria. Finally, we find ourselves sitting next to a dreamy, almost Malibu style sonic backdrop as the slower, more groovy arrangements of 'Bro'ccoli Lasagna' see us into the sunset.

Review: Since its inception in 2018 the wonderfully titled SlothBoogie has delivered a sweet run of house, disco and garage inspired tracks. The label now welcomes Scruscru to its fold, with the artist bringing one Mike Fot with him in Spliff Jamz Vol 1. At four tracks large the pair explore dope electro beats and sparse and trippy vocals in a UK-Chicago inspired house joint, "Got U", next to some high energy soul sensations in "Hauz Bonger". "Spliff Jazz" sees the pair deliver a long and smokey intro to then be punctuated by snappy broken beats, trippy trumpets, righteous chords and sweet atmospheres to fall in suite next to the mellow and kicked back, beachy acid trip of "Lazy Daydreaming". The name of the EP says it all. Blaze up.

Nebel
Nebel - (6:26) 130 BPM
Review: Nebel is the German word for 'nebula', astronomically speaking, or a mist or haze more generally - a fitting enough title for a track that, while quite driving in the beats department, still has something of a hazy, dreamy feel. The work of a Berlin-based Brit who's known for her releases on Lobster Theremin (and who's also the daughter of a well-known northern soul DJ), 'Nebel' is a cut that'd work on deep and progressive/melodic house floors alike, its densely layered synths underpinned by warm, resonant bass that powers everything along while chipmunk-y, almost PC Music-ish vocal microsnips add a dash of human warmth at the top end.

Review: Last year, London DJ crew and party promotion outfit SlothBoogie delivered one of the compilations of the year, a wonderfully eclectic and on-point set entitled Dancing With Friends. According to the crew, they spent even more time carefully curating this welcome sequel. You can tell, too. Kicking off with the tactile, slow-burn deep house yearning of Soul Won's '96 to Albert Park', the 21-track collection ambles, strides and jogs between soul-flecked deep house (see Kemback's brilliant 'I Know What You're Thinking'), driving nu-disco (Jesse Bru), swirling deep jackers (Erik Ellmann's 'Private Talk'), loopy disc-house haziness (the always excellent Felipe Gordon), jazz-flecked acid squelch-alongs (Pablot), deep space sample house (Sam Irl) and high-octane, peak-time insanity (The Revenge). Simply brilliant.

Review: 13 months after making his SlothBoogie bow via a contribution to the imprint's excellent Dancing With Friends compilation, former ClippArt and 13th Hour contributor Soul Wun delivers a fine contribution to the label's SB Jamz series. He begins in ear-catching mood with 'Piero's Strings', a superb fusion of jazz-house and deep house blessed with - you guessed it - some seriously luscious strings, before offering a dustier, deeper and more bass-heavy take on ultra-deep jazz-house (the impeccable, early St Germain style warmth of 'Japan Theme'). Speaking of St Germain, the French veteran would no doubt approve of the deliciously atmospheric and shuffling 'Lily Flower (Adele)', which remixer Jesse Bru later gives a slightly chunkier (but no less emotive) spin. Head-nodding downtempo workout 'Sun Lady Statement' completes a fine package.

Review: The latest missive on SlothBoogie's Jamz offshoot comes courtesy of Lowres, a Russia-based duo who already have releases on Minor Notes and Housewax to their name. There's much to enjoy across the EP, beginning with the musically expansive and intricately produced 'Janwary', a superb sample-house excursion that wraps filtered orchestral samples and twinkling jazz piano around a chunky deep house groove. Title track 'Mechta' is a deeper and warmer excursion notable for the pair's use of interesting percussion sounds, while 'Morozenhoe' sits somewhere between dub house and Afro-tinged jazz-house. Also impressive is closing cut 'Trenerovka', another patchwork sample-house excursion featuring typically sub-heavy bottom-end.

For their 12th edition they've got Southern Italian native and Berlin dweller Nanni Barnaba aka Ruff Stuff, who is a fine example of nominative determinism. With a penchant for tough 808 drum patterns, and arrangements which echo the spirit of 90's Chicago - he was the perfect choice. The Dubby Tales EP features the emotive "Still Warm" and it's melancholic Larry Heard/Alleviated vibe, more chunky Juno 106 basslines await on the acid inflected soul of "Agosto" and "Moto Continuo" channels the hi-tech soul of classic Detroit.

There's naturally plenty to set the pulse racing throughout, with highlights including the sparkling jazz-funk-meets-deep house sunshine of Levan's "U R Beautiful In The Face", the deep, breakbeat-driven dreaminess of Philippa's "That's What I Mean By Free", the piano solo-heavy disco-house bump of Leatherette's "Your Love", and the dub disco-meets-acid house heaviness of "Rewind Run" by Pablot. Throw in similarly impressive contributions from Kassian, Luvless, Casino Times and Soul Wun (the classic jazz-house of "Thank You, St Germain") and you have a must-have collection.
