Review: Ola Bergman has been releasing electronic music for almost twenty years, with his work gracing respected labels like Abstract Forms, Brokntoys and Stilleben. Now he debuts on Solar One with an excellent electro four-tracker. "Aerobahn" resounds to stripped back, acid-soaked drums, while Bergman brings his melodic sensibilities to bear on the floating, atmospheric "Jacobian Determinant". On "Dirac Spinor", Bergman venture down a darker path: accompanied by malevolent bass and eerie synth lines, it sees the Swedish producer reach a paranoid, Rother-esque destination. "Julius Mosca" is also of a darker disposition, but its low-slung rhythm is more redolent of Gerald Donald's spooky Zwischenwelt project.

Review: Activated is Jensen Interceptor aka Mikey Melas' fifth EP of 2019 and sees the fast-rising producer drop more electro heat. Focusing on 4/4s, the title track and "Contact" resound to menacing bass-lines and spooky synth stabs, which unfold over steely drums. On "Dirrekt Lift", a collaboration with German producer Das Muster, the balance shifts back towards a more typical electro shuffle, albeit with the same dark tones as the first two tracks. "Inverse Light" sees Melas move towards the kind of layered, abstract territories that Drexciya used to inhabit, while closing track "Last Night" is a high-paced electro funk workout, shrouded in an air of mystery.

Review: Under the guise of The Exaltics, veteran producer Robert Witschakowski has spent the last decade writing his own electro mythology. Like Drexciya before him, the German loves delivering concept EPs with titles that hint at imaginary dystopian movies that we'll never get to see. He's at it again on this pleasingly floor-friendly EP, which comes pressed onto an attractive, shaped picture disc. There's something undeniably cinematic about opener "0998.0989.12", a forthright and full-throttle space-chase through unchartered territories that sits somewhere between classic electro and Detroit techno. Elsewhere, he offers up a sliver of dark ambient before rounding things off with a thrillingly bouncy and rubbery slab of killer dancefloor electro.
