Review: Solid Grooves Records considers itself as one of the UK's finest house & techno labels, a bold statement, sure. But it is backed up by its hugely popular residencies in both Ibiza and London. When not playing dates all across Europe throughout last year, the Hungarian born, Barcelona based DJ Reelow was dropping a string of killer releases on labels such as Deeperfect, Snatch!, Cuartero's Sanity and Roush. One of the key names associated with Solid Grooves, Reelow first appeared on the imprint alongside Berlin's Onno a year ago and has been a staple in their Ibiza season line ups. "Thinking Of You" rolls deep in minimal and hypnotic fashion in the same vein as Archie Hamilton. Second offering "Youngsters" is a much more stadium sized affair with its disco samples, druggy vocals and massive drop which will appeal to fans of the Gruuv or Saved sound.
Review: Solid grooves are known for their hugely popular residencies in both Ibiza and London as well as their quality in-house label which has brought us the likes of ONNO, Andrew Beat and Dennis Cruz. It's now over to Pawsa who delivers three cuts of rusty and dust covered goodness on the Double Trouble EP. Starting out with the raw jacking groove of "Twiple Fet" featuring chopped up vocals loops, one seriously overdriven kick and generous servings of white noise. "Angel Dust" is even funkier and heaving in all its rusty and dust covered goodness; we're loving this old school NYC vibe a lot! Finally, the Anek remix of "Twiple Fet" goes for a druggy, pre-peak time tech house roller that'll appeal to fans of Gruuv or Saved.
Review: Leftwing & Kody's debut on seminal UK label Solid Grooves is sure to cause a stir. The pair, who have worked for well-known labels like Truesoul and Relief, have delivered an EP that is influenced by the rude, raw sound of UK garage. The title track, already played by tens of thousands of fans online, is a rough roller, featuring tough drums and rude, time-stretched vocals. "Who Can Draw" goes even farther down that route; based on a bowel-shaking sub-bass, its snares roll and rhythm bounces as a backdrop to the 'who's the badman' vocal sample. It's sure to be a summer bomb.
