Review: Ascendant Dutch duo ANOTR bring the heat on Solid Grooves, following up some thrillers on the London based label by Prok & Fitch, Leftwing & Kody and Pawsa. This is tough rolling tech-house, with the main room at peak time strictly in mind that will appeal to fans of White Isle sounds by the likes of Gruuv, Saved or Elrow. From the driving, funk-fuelled and functional groove of "Let Me Hear Ya" to the hypnotic vibe of "Great Canyon" and its sublime chord progressions reminiscent of classic UK tech house.
Review: Solid Grooves Records considers itself as one of the UK's finest house & techno labels, a bold statement, sure. But it is backed up by its hugely popular residencies in both Ibiza and London. When not playing dates all across Europe throughout last year, the Hungarian born, Barcelona based DJ Reelow was dropping a string of killer releases on labels such as Deeperfect, Snatch!, Cuartero's Sanity and Roush. One of the key names associated with Solid Grooves, Reelow first appeared on the imprint alongside Berlin's Onno a year ago and has been a staple in their Ibiza season line ups. "Thinking Of You" rolls deep in minimal and hypnotic fashion in the same vein as Archie Hamilton. Second offering "Youngsters" is a much more stadium sized affair with its disco samples, druggy vocals and massive drop which will appeal to fans of the Gruuv or Saved sound.
Review: London/Ibiza joint venture Solid Grooves Records return with two cuts from Italian producer Franz Costa, with label founder Michael Bibi providing the remix. Having released on Deeperfect, ElRow and Natural Rhythm, the young upstart is certainly on a roll: even Marco Carola is a fan, we hear. He now joins the Solid Grooves Records roster alongside Pawsa, Reelow and David Pher to name but a few. "Two Step" is a percussive and funky DJ tool that works hypnotic wonders with its 'less is more' approach. Next up "Moving Balance" is more on the tech house tip with its bouncy bassline and cowbell a constant throughout. It's tough on the drums like you'd expect, but that razor sharp synth bassline compliments the track well.
