Review: Munich born multi-instrumentalist Niko Schabel returns home from San Francisco after previous albums on Ubiquity with "The Night & The City" an amazing concept album taking on varied genres to stunning sonic effects and incredible narrative overall. There's 13 tracks on there but they generally only go for about two minutes and all fit together cohesively. The highlights are "Clouds" with its vinyl crackle beneath a gorgeous classical piano (Antonis Anissegos) and house not house kind of groove (more bossa, a bit jazz) courtesy of drummer Mathis Gmelin and is somewhat reminiscent of John Roberts "Glass Eights". Said classical tendencies merge with dub surprisingly well on "Rise" while "Phone" features Natalie Greffel's smooth crooning (a constant throughout) over dusty and atmospheric trip hop, "Near & Far" is amazing, utilising mesmerising xylophone playing backed by an epic violin section and singer Abiodun Oyewole's powerful vocals.

Review: Influenced by the likes of Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder, Pete Josef is a singer and instrumentalist known for collaborative work such as The White Lamp with Darren Emerson. Here though, he delivers the solo "Colour EP", which features the organic dream-pop of the title track, the earnest jazzy shuffle of "The Travelling Song" and the Latin-tinged funk strutter "Make It Good". The breathy airiness of "Colour" is also expanded upon within the remarkable synthy vapours of the Glow In The Dark mix.

Review: Bavarian purveyors of all things deep and soulful Sonar Kollektiv present more yet quality house music, this time with Jad & The Ladyboy's Sweet Nothing EP. "Sweet Nothing" features the raspy baritone of Borgazzi on this smooth dancefloor oriented number. Things get on a more chilled out R&B tip reminiscent of old Naked Music with "Reach Me" featuring Sarah Reeves lovely vocals. There's also more sublime deepness on "Good Again" featuring Berlin eccentric and Snax Club resident Snax doing some soulful crooning. "Good Again" and "Sweet Nothing" also appear as instrumental versions.

Review: Having already introduced Venezuelan great Daniel Grau to a wider audience via a brilliant retrospective comp, Sonar Kollektiv have been busy getting contemporary producers to reinterpret his disco-era, jazz-funk gems. The simply titled Reworks boasts 19 re-imaginings of Grau's tracks from an impressive selection of studio talents. Tuff City Kids, Mark E, Max Graef and Debonair deliver suitably sunny deep house tweaks, while there are more reverential takes from Soul Clap (whose jaunty, sun-kissed remix collaboration with Bosq is a highlight), Marcel Vogel, Jacques Renault and Daniel T. Best of all, though, are the soaring disco re-makes from Ray Mang and Danel Wang & Jules Etienne. The latter pairing also deliver a brilliant, electrofunk-influenced "Non Disco" mix of "Disco Fantasy".

Review: This Aussie producer has come a long way from his humble nu-disco re-edit beginnings, with his recent acclaimed house tunes leading to this single with the mighty Sonar Kollective. He hasn't let the side down either, coming up with "Never Come Back Down", a smooth and deep, perspiration-soaked smoocher. Leading the remix charge is Yannick's haunting disco-tech "Sexfactmix", followed by Jad's dreamy, Balearic dub of floaty synth-popper "Sometimes Feelings Hurt".

Review: Venezuelan high-end disco hero Daniel Grau has been recently rediscovered by Sonar Kollektiv and DJ Trujillo, and this is the third installment in their Reworks remix series. UK disco don Ray Mang makes short work of a rare cover of Grau's "El Leon Bailarian" - a totally amazing burst of trippy disco stardust. Elsewhere the stunning "Tonight" becomes darkly seductive raw Italo in Soul Clap & Bosq's hands, "Atlantis" becomes liquid ecstasy-funk courtesy of Debonair and "Delirio En Fa Menor" is rendered Loveboat-cool by DJ Trujillo & Miguel Molina.

Review: Bass explorer extraordinaire Jah Wobble has been taking us on all kinds of low-end journeys since his days with the mighty PiL back in the '70s. So, when he decides to present you with something, you know it's bound to be good. PJ Higgins (Dub Colossus) wraps her golden larynx round eight tracks of smoky late night throbbers, each generously cooked with various world ("What Have I Become"), chill-out ("Inspiration") and blues ("Chaingang") tinged flavours. The requisite rolling dubby basslines come courtesy of Mr Wobble of course, topping off an already successful mood record.
