Review: You could be forgiven for assuming, given the title, that this was a collection of covers, remixes or re-edits of Chic tracks, but no... it's just a new label compilation from Spa In Disco. Maybe they felt all the tracks share a certain Chic-y vibe? Still, a new label compilation from Spa In Disco is never something to be sniffed at and with cuts from scene favourites like Julian Sanza, Fran Deeper, Ilya Santana and Sauco among the musical delights on offer, lovers of modern disco will find much to enjoy here - not least a double-bass-and-trumpets romp from Infradisco, the sensual slo-mo boogie/funk of Santana's 'Valle Estelar' and Marchese del Disco's Talking Heads-ish 'Maybe Next Time'.
Review: Fresh from admired outings on Rare Wiri, Sprechen and Boite Music, prolific producer and renowned house/nu-disco fusionist Fran Deeper returns home to Spa in Disco, a label he founded a decade ago. The headline attraction this time round is 'Old is Kool' - sentiments that many grizzled veterans will wholeheartedly agree with - a track in which the Mallorca man wraps hazy, indie-style vocals, attractive electronic melodies and fizzing nu-disco synth sounds around an Italo-disco and dub-disco-influenced groove. Faze Action's Robin Lee dons his Andromeda Orchestra guise to deliver an even more attractive, colourful and disco-tinged take - sun-splashed Balearic nu-disco with bells on basically - before we're treated to bonus cut 'Fusioniso', where boogie guitars, synths, electric piano motifs and whispered vocal snippets cluster around an infectious house groove.
Review: On his latest outing for the record label he launched nine years ago, Fran Deeper is in fine form, offering up the kind of attractive, synth-heavy nu-disco jam that has become his forte in recent years. In its' original mix form, 'One Way' cannily combines rising and falling synthesiser lead lines with unfussy drums, metronomic dub disco bass, arpeggio style electronics, echoing vocal snippets and bubbly electronic melodies. It comes backed with two decent remixes: a piano-heavy Balearic nu-disco workout from long-serving Argentine producer Julian Sanza, and a slightly deeper and even more colourful rework courtesy of Sauco.
