Spearhead Records is a UK-based liquid drum & bass label, founded in 2005 by Steve Jeffery aka BCee. From smooth, sunset-kissed sounds to deep, lighter-raising productions, Spearhead has rolled out countless smile-igniting bangers like Netsky’s ‘I Refuse’, LSB’s ‘Loop Of Love’, S.P.Y’s ‘By Your Side’, BCee & Charlotte Haining’s ‘More Than Words’ and Villem & McLeod’s ‘Let It Breathe’ (feat Leo Wood). Future Retro is Spearhead’s sub-label.
Review: The Spearhead massive have delivered some seriously high grade weaponry with this new set of originals, inviting some of the most exciting names across drum and bass together for this wicked new compilation by the name 'Soul Warming Sonics'. From the rave-ready vocal barrages of Emba's remix of 'Karma' from The Vanguard Project to DSP's abstract future-jungle synth switch ups on 'Index', this project really does tick all the boxes for a modern-day raver. With the full project featuring 18 scorching originals, we are almost spoilt for choice, but our favourites would have to include the warm bassline bounces of LSB's 'Golden', the sunshine synthesiser sweeps of BCee & Charlotte Haining's 'Is It Real?' and of course the absolute dynamite stick that is 'Feels Like' from Lens, which sees Workforce get busy across a thunderous rework. Fire from start to finish!
Review: Previously of Dexcell, now rolling solo: Dave Emba comes correct with this epic slab of soulful gold on the mighty Spearhead. Featuring a wide range of vocalists and collaborations, this self titled debut album is an exciting showcase of his styles and vibes as the likes of DRS, [ KSR ], Tempza, L.I.T.A, BCee, Catching Cairo, Lucy Kitchen, Paper Dragon and many more work with Emba over his beautiful beat work. Elegant, poignant and full of hope and positivity, highlights include the already massive anthems like 'Only For A Moment', 'Move Steady' and 'State Of Flow' and other beautiful nuggets like L-Side's remix of 'Dreamers', 'Galaxy' and 'Mirrors'. Flaming!
Review: Spearhead hits an impressive 200 releases and the bossman is taking care of bicentennial business with four tracks of back-to-roots instrumental business. Timeless grooves in time for the summer this is BCee in his most direct and groove-focused. 'TSC' lights the fire with a textures vocal sample and sublime dubby bass tones, 'Not By Sight' bounces with uplifting daydreamy energy and soulful vocal samples, 'God Fixation' brings a little more epic dynamics with its sweeping strings while 'If I Had To Die For Someone' closes the EP with a big splashes of funk. What a way to celebrate 200 releases!
Review: Dreamers keep on dreaming, Low:rs keep on lowering... Spearhead kickstart May with this stunning collection from one of their most consistent artists Low:r. Four tracks, each one as tasty as the last, flavours range from the stunning somnambulant trembles and flutters of the title track to the much fatter rattles and twists of 'I Can See'. Elsewhere we have the deep dancefloor drama of 'Make The Most' (with Aleya Mae) before 'Goon Squad' ends us on a fittingly funky finale. Vibers keep on vibing.
