Review: Almost 18 months have passed since publicity-shy Swedish duo Elfenberg made their bow on Stil Vor Talent with the quietly impressive "Continents" EP. Here they offer up a sequel that's every bit as warm, fluid, percussive and mood enhancing as its predecessor. For proof, check the tribal-influenced hand percussion, tech-house grooves and swirling deep house sounds of "Rhythm In Between" and the off-kilter tech-house grandiosity of "Sao Tome". The pair's love of atmospheric chords, drawn-out build-ups and samples from African records is explored further on "Seven Summits", while opening cut "Mawenzi" is a superb slab of Afro-tech/deep house fusion laden with bubbly electronics and chanted vocals.
Review: Mainz duo Teenage Mutants team up with Spain's EdOne for Chapter Two, giving us four servings of dark house for Oliver Koletzki's famed Berlin imprint. Starting out in fine form with the fierce and moody energy of "Alive" which will appeal to progressive house fans while "The Question" is a brooding journey track that would make even Jonas Saalbach stand up and notice! Proving there is more diversity in their arsenal yet, "Unchartered" is a rather stomping and direct techno banger that is more suited to Tresor than Ritte Butzke, if you catch our drift?
Review: Kellerkind continues his long-standing relationship with Stil Vor Talent on Move Me. The title track is a loose, rolling groove, punctuated by a piercing guitar and a doomy, incoherent vocal. It's house music, but only in the most liberal interpretation of that term. "Believe In You" is more direct. Featuring a tough bassline, a vocal sample intoning 'in you' and hypnotic drones, it makes for a more DJ friendly approach. However, the remixes push the release back towards abstract territories; the Jiggler take on "Move Me" is a dubby, tripped out house groove and Joachim Pastor's version sees him navigate his way through wiry abstraction on one side and powerful subs on the other.
