Review: Previously famed for her appearances on In Flagranti records, vocalist Natalie Smash gets a chance to create some headlines of her own via a solo debut on Chicago's Still Music. She's recruited San Francisco's Loose Control Band (veterans DJ Spun and Jonah Sharp) to handle production and mixing duties. Their 'Live in SF' version is a dusty, Chicago jack-inspired workout in which TB-303 bass and acid lines take centre stage alongside spacey electronics and Smash's distinctive vocals. The NY Club Mix sits somewhere between delay-laden proto house, acid jack and starry late '80s deep house, while the 'NJ Sample Version' takes us back to club Zanzibar in East Orange at the turn of the 90s. Throw in a wonderfully tough and jackin' version from Mystic Bill and you have a genuinely excellent EP.
