Review: With the influx of new garage sweeping its way through the scene in recent times, we are really happy to see Strictly Flava emerging as one of the leading powers, who return here with another fantastic offering courtesy of Royal Flush. We kick off this one with some classic UKG flavours as the illustrious vocal rolls and skippy 2-step drum work of the title track 'By My Side' works their magic. This is then followed up nicely with a look at 'What's That Sour', another sharp groovy ball of magic, packed to the brim with hip shaking twists and turns, providing the perfect secondary addition.
Review: Well, was there any doubt that seeing MPH and Strictly Flava on the same EP title would lead to anything other than a winner? Today we dive into the latest two tracker which follows up from the 'Midnight / Say It' project earlier this year. The first track on this new selection goes by the name of 'Call Me' and is a straight dancefloor gem, packed with golden rhythmic energy and super catchy melodic twists and turns from start to finish. On the flip side we are graced with the equally groovy 'Thermal', again driven by those classic MPH vocal slices and stunning sense of atmosphere in the background. Tasty stuff as per!
Review: Garage legend and tastemaker Scott Diaz is always an exciting name to see on a line up, so when we saw his 'Chancery Lane' remixed were set for release, we were over the moon! We begin with Kastle's emotive rework, which focuses primarily on bringing the vocal centre stage whilst supporting it with floaty melodies and crisp drum processing. Limita's bassline overhaul is definitely one for the dances as gritty subs roll away beneath groovy percussive riffs. On the final remix, Movement steps up with his uniquely rhythmic reimagining, bringing broken garage themes into pot and rounding off a great project.
Review: London producer Itonic is a regular newcomer to the garage game, with just a string of self-released digital EPs to his name. Here he appears on Strictly Flava for the very first time with a two-track missive that we think is quietly impressive. "Check Yourself" is classic two-step garage of the kind that first rose to prominence in the late 1990s - all weighty sub-bass, skipping beats, ear-pleasing organ sounds and the sort of cut-up female vocal snippets that have long been a feature of Todd Edwards' productions. Virtual B-side "Jive" is similarly warm, soulful and positive, with the producer peppering a beefy bassline and a more complex two-step rhythm with bouncy stabs, Grant Nelson-esque keyboard sounds and more glassy-eyed female vocal samples.
Review: We seem to say it every time, but we are rapidly running out of new ways to describe just how damn consistent those Strictly Flava fellows really are. They welcome Angus Green inside for their latest drop, featuring two dancefloor ready rollers, again pushing them to the top of the ever growing UK pile up. Firstly, we take in 'Digits', a chord driven bounce that combines skippy rhythms and bulbous bass tones with colourful keys, below a classic slice of Stefflon Don's memorable verse on 'Boasty'. On the flip, the synths are let loose entirely with some groovy biting tones, boogying away above more pleasing rhythmic action from Green's perfectly placed percussion. Lovely stuff as per!
Review: It's an extremely exciting time to be in and around the thriving UKG scene at the moment, with labels such as Strictly Flava putting together top quality releases on such a consistent scale. This latest addition to their catalogue sees them debut the sounds of Enrique Gongora, a forward thinking garage producer who kicks us off in good fashion within the vibrant melodic grooves and rhythmic twists within 'Feel The Night' alongside Carlos Salas. We take it more old school on the flip as the vibrant bass stabs, nostalgic vocal lines and colourful manoeuvres of 'To The Left To The Right' put the seal on another fantastic offering.
Review: Here we take a look at another seriously cool emerging project as the rapidly rising sounds of Witchdoctor team up with Strictly Flava for a nostalgic three track epic. We begin the ride on this one by diving into the title track 'From The Inside', a super smooth 2-step roller, driven forward by some incredible vocal work and creamy drum processing. Following this, we move into the more uptempo rhythms of 'Ecstasy', which takes a more sub heavy approach to its breakdown, before finishing up the project on the even more intense 4x4 bounces of 'Piranha'. Excellent stuff!
Review: After a super warm up week in the UK, it's clear to see the UKG flavours are flowing freely as we check out this luscious two tracker from Demo Dubs via Strictly Flavour. We begin with the futuristic chord movement and dubbed out vocal stabs of 'Good Time', which also works in deep bass leads and spacey keys, creating the perfect summer blend. We are then treated to the super skippy horn riff & chord based call and response of 'Back Up', which through it's stripped back compositional nature is the perfect riddim for those forthcoming BBQ playlists.
Review: Four weeks into 2020 and it's safe to say that Strictly Flava are now definitely up and running, with their second drop of the year coming from the soul sounds of Sensa. He gets busy here with two wavy original UKG slaps, the first of which takes the apt title 'Groovin', being full of smooth chord progressions and stylish rhythmic movements. On the flipside we are plunged into a pool of luscious synth actions and glistening vocal processing, giving us a super cool banger and providing an excellent contrast to the A-side.
