The Revisionist 4
Thomaz vs Filterheadz - "Los Hijos Del Sol" - (5:59) 140 BPM Hot
Homerun - "Native Bullet" - (5:49) 138 BPM
Review: Suara serves up an incredible split release on the fourth instalment of The Revisionist. Seminal Belgian act Tomaz vs Filterheadz are up first. Remixing one of the leading acts in the late 90s/early 00s party techno sound is no easy feat, but Coyu rises to the occasion with his rework of the 2001 staple "Los Hijos Del Sol". Maintaining the original version's Latino influences, he adds in a powerful bass and a massive rolling groove. The end result is a track with huge crossover appeal. Coyu also delivers a killer version of Homerun's "Native Bullet" - also from 2001. Led by a pulsating electronic bass and featuring a screeching vocal sample, it's sure to have the same level of appeal as Coyu's take on Tomaz vs Filterheadz.

Victor Fernandez - "The Beginning Of The End" - (6:14) 139 BPM
Review: Following on from the inaugural Metaroots split release from late last year, Suara delivers a second volume. Leading the charge on this collection of dynamic dance floor tracks is Rohar, with the blustering tribal drums of "Blunder", while Alessandro Grops, who featured on the first edition drops the stripped back, vocal-sampling jack of "Rexilety". Gaston Zani is another return visitor, who also draws on vocal samples, applying them to a dense, looped groove. Best of all though is Victor Fernandez' contribution, with the ominous synth stabs and steely, relentless rhythm of "The Beginning Of The End" redolent of Dave Clarke's Red series.

Enredo - (5:57) 135 BPM
Review: With heavyweight support from the likes of Berghain's Ben Klock and Marcel Dettmann, it's no surprise that Marcal's star is in the ascent - and this release is a reminder of why he is receiving this acclaim. "Enemy 9 and "Lithurgia" are relentless, steely jacking affairs, with the former's stop-start analogue energy calling to mind the 90s work of Luke Slater, another Marcal fan. There is another, less frenetic side to this producer's sound, articulated on the dubbed out "Machidan", but in the main, this collection will turn heads thanks to its dark, dizzying energy, audible through the walking bass and dystopian synths of "Oboro".

Post Raw Era (Remixes Pt 1)

Newoldgen (Temudo remix) - (5:55) 139 BPM
Flangerism (Jay Clarke remix) - (7:26) 143 BPM
Descontrol (Chemtrailz Freestyle Descontrol Contest remix) - (5:58) 89 BPM
Review: Coyu has commissioned remixes of tracks from last year's Post Raw Era series, and while the results are varied, they are also impressive across the board. First up is Suara regular Flug, who turns "Always Wanting More" into a lean, rolling rhythm that resounds to ponderous vocals and searing acid lines. Temudo, who graced Soma last year, follows a similar path as Flug with his take on "Newoldgen",dropping a dense tribal affair that's populated by wild drops and builds. Jay Clarke changes tact on his version of "Flangerism", as churning chords flow over a more stepping rhythm. Meanwhile, the Chemtrailz Freestyle remix of "Descontrol" rounds off the release with frazzled, pulsating bass tones.

The Loop - (6:39) 140 BPM
Hagale - (6:27) 140 BPM
Review: Coyu opens his account for 2021 with the fourth instalment of the Technostalgia series, which sees him take influence from a myriad of influences to create new strains of contemporary techno. "Technostalgia 2.0" sees the Suara boss drop a peak-time, percussive rhythm that drops and builds with laser-like precision. On "Contraindication", he deploys looped vocal samples and and rave stabs over pounding kicks, while the intense, Speedy J-like "The Loop" resounds to bursts of white noise and propulsive, metallic snares. Rounding off the release is "Hagale", where he combines a ghetto-style rhythm with a cacophony of tribal chants to create a distinctive new fusion.

Review: Next up on Coyu's label is a compilation that really lives up to its title. _Power starts and finishes with tracks from GLIA - the grungy, vocal-led "2x Gola" and the eerie, stepping "Laws Of Physics And Karma" - while on "External Body" Marina George lays down a tough acid track. The compilation moves a few notches in the intensity levels with Ana Lilia's pounding "In Too Deep" and the wild ghetto stomp of Zaphy's "Wein". However, _Power never strays into senselessly banging territory and Rouge delivers a superb, ebm-style workout on "Prism" and Cora's "Exit" is a linear tribal track that resounds to lean, steely percussion.

Live 98 Tour - (5:08) 149 BPM
Same 4 (feat Zein) - (4:41) 145 BPM
Review: Coyu's label has scored a serious coup for its latest release, recruiting techno legend The Advent aka Cisco Ferreira to deliver a superb three- track EP. "Witches Spell" is led by churning, dubbed out chords and razor sharp percussion and these elements are underpinned by tight drums. In contrast, "Live 98 Tour" is a high-paced banger, that is redolent of the looped techno sound that Ferreira pioneered during the mid-90s on the Elements of Life long player. He then hooks up with Zein to shine a light on the other side of The Advent canon: "Same 4" is a hyperactive electro track that fuses dreamy synths with splurging bass to create a distinctive, futuristic sound.

Review: For the latest release on Suara, label owner Coyu wears his influences clearly, naming tracks after inspirational performances from key DJs. First up is Laurent Garnier, with Coyu dedicating the dreamy Detroit techno of "Garnier at (any) Sonar" after the legendary DJ's annual appearance at the Barcelona festival. "Carola At Monegros, 2004" was clearly a key event for the Suara boss, and he delivers a pummelling tribal techno workout in honour of the Italian legend, while on "Clarke at the Loft, 2005", he drops nightmarish chord stabs against the backdrop of tough, doubled up drums - a worthy homage to the Baron of Techno.

Review: Coyu's label delivers another compilation with across the board dance floor appeal. It veers in style from noisy, big room bangers such as the siren-led "Class Against Class" by George Tounisdis to well as pulsating, acid-drenched workouts from Jokasti & Nek and Rhomb. This collection will also appeal to fans of deeper grooves and in that regard, the layered tribal tech of Milo Raad's "Ustikens" really stands out. Uniting these diverse approaches, all of the contributions possess an ability to work on the dance floor, from the raved-tinged "Smoke Slowly" from Exilles to JC Laurent's steely tool track, "Youth".

Nightmares - (6:42) 136 BPM
Isolated - (8:41) 134 BPM
Winter Mood - (6:12) 134 BPM
Review: Next up on Suara is Sebasti?n Lopez aka Flug to deliver a follow up to 2018's The Hedonist. The title track is a pounding slice of techno that resounds to rolling snares and tweaked acid lines, with these elements supporting a ponderous vocal sample. On "Nightmares", Lopez opts for a similar approach by deploying a throbbing bass, but this time combining it with tingling keys instead of the arcing 303s. Meanwhile on "Isolated", he throws down a pulsating groove and the kind of gurgling acid lines that wouldn't sound out of place on a Tin Man record. In contrast, "Winter Mood" is a far darker, grittier affair underpinned by rough kicks.

Arc Mode (Mark Broom remix) - (4:58) 129 BPM Hot
Redeemer - (6:08) 131 BPM
Astral Cell - (6:07) 128 BPM
Review: Kirk Degiorgio and Coyu's Suara label are probably not names that one would normally put together, but Arc Mode sees the revered techno producer deliver a tougher than usual release. On the title track he delivers a series of frazzled acid lines, realised against the backdrop of a firing rhythm, while "Redeemer" sees him venture farther down the rabbit hole, courtesy of a panel beating, pounding rhythm. By contrast, "Astral Cell" is deeper and more tripped out, thanks largely to its hypnotic pulses and rolling groove, but this release is all about the peak time, as displayed so effortlessly by Mark Broom's tough, metal-plated take on "Arc Mode".

Review: Hot on the heels of releases for Drumcode and Noir, Ramiro Lopez brings his distinctive party sound to Suara. This EP gets off to a flying start with the eerie organs and rolling drums of "Ben Ben". Within this framework, Lopez includes some looped vocal samples that add to the track's rousing nature. On "Universe", he ups the intensity levels as rave riffs dive bomb in and out of a stomping rhythm. "Unwilling To Change" offers euphoric abandon, but this time via a different path, with a grainy bass underpinning a wild, shuffling rhythm and percussive bursts. Last but by no means least are the moody, pitched down vocals and dramatic drops of "Nasa Is Sweating".

Manticore - (6:16) 133 BPM
Review: Following a release on Just This this year, My Flower teams up with Darse for this four-track EP on Suara. "Hydra" is a bleep-laden, driving track with a hypnotic, icy edge. By contrast, a warmer undercurrent runs through the title track, and it is brought to life by a tranced out synth melody that is supported by a pulsating groove. On "Echidna" the collaborators also opt for a trance-influenced aesthetic, but this time it is more nuanced, with haunting vocal samples accompanying the melodic synths. Last but not least is "Manticore", which puts the focus back on the dance floor thanks to a relentless, electronic rhythm.

Insania - (2:54) 190 BPM
Review: While Suara is one of the most prolific techno labels out there, its owner, Coyu has taken a back seat recently with his own productions. This is changing with the release of his debut album, You Don't Know, which also coincides with him broadening out his sound. Tracks like "Out of the Pain" and the melancholic "1&1", featuring Thomas Gandey, sees him explore mournful, down tempo sounds, while on "Insania", the Suara boss veers into abstract mode, with rattling percussion. While there is no shortage of dance floor material - most notably the throbbing, acid-soaked "Volare" - the most impressive material tends towards the downtempo melodic vein, audible on his excellent broken beat collaboration with Moby, "'I May Be Dead, But One Day The World Will Be Beautiful Again".

Acid Mass - (5:43) 131 BPM
New Dimension - (7:14) 133 BPM
Review: Next up on Coyu's label is Valentino, with an individualistic but dance floor effective release. "Mystery" sets the tone for the EP, with a mysterious vocal sample underpinned by tough, drums and mysterious, tranced out synths, like a peak-time take on early 90s Dutch techno. "The Space" opts for a similar but more clubby approach and on this occasion, the synths sweep in in dramatic fashion, the accompanying drums are tough and support a wild filtered build. As its title suggests, "Acid Mass" sees Valentino deploy spiralling acid lines along with menacing synth lines, while closing track "New Dimension" is a dramatic, trance-inspired techno banger.

Review: Dextro follows up his Porno Playground debut for Suara from earlier this year with another storming release. "Fantasy" is a superb big room track, with wild sirens and firing percussion unfolding over a pounding drum pattern. "Refrase" is based on a similar premise; on this occasion, Dextro drops a more pulsating groove, ominous horns and ponderous vocals that add to the track's nocturnal feeling. He opts for a visceral approach with "Get Freak" - its rough kicks and pile-driving acid coming across like a modern take on Richie Hawtin's Probe material - while the title track is a heads-down, metallic roller that has echoes of Sandwell District.

These are frenetic affairs that feature searing electronic riffs and the kind of frosty vocals you'd expect to hear on a Miss Kittin record. This time, the pair set the intensity levels racing from the get-go with "Immutable", which resounds to a frenetic, acid-fried rhythm, rave stabs and rolling snares. The title track is of a similar dis-position, with murderous bass stabs, high-pitched synth lines and thun-derous drums setting the pace. Meanwhile, "Suburban Preacher" sees the Bulgarian duo draw on hardcore influences for the track's eerie synth builds and buzzing bee bass. Add in insistent vocal sample and insistent drum rolls and the overall result is a brutally effective dance floor techno track.

Review: Berlin electro-house legends Tiefschwarz make a surprising appearance on upfront tech house label Suara here with a pretty fierce EP. Outside of remixes recently for the likes of Gruuv, International Deejay Gigolos and Mobilee - brothers Ali and Basti Schwarz rarely appear outside of their established Souvenir imprint - and we're sure that Barcelona-based Suara don't take this for granted. Their new EP features the tunnelling and steely stomp of "Some Thing" with its druggy monologue that disappears down a long trail of reverb, and the emotive minimalism of "Thinking Of You" which receives a full throttle rework geared for peak time use - by ascendant Italian Marco Faraone (Drumcode/REKIDS).

Review: It's not often that one hears chanting religious singing used effectively in electronic music - anyone remember Enigma? - but Finite might be one of those rare exceptions. On the tile track and "Akut Nihilism" Cerato and Teologen manage to combine eerie, ghostly chants with pulsating electronic grooves. The sound is more techy on "Indoktrinering", where noisy percussion and smart breaks make for a more robust arrangement, and they continue their exploration of this sound on "Opening Circle". Here, the track centres on a cacophony of atmospheric, evocative vocals, set to a thundering acidic track. It makes for one of the most individualistic releases of 2019.

Review: Clarian North has an impressive back catalogue that boasts releases on labels like Visionquest, Kompakt and Turbo, so he fits in perfectly on Coyu's Suara imprint. Melodies starts with the neo-classical piano of "For Tatiana", before Clarian makes a subtle shift into melodic dance music on the pulsating bass and spaced out, atmospheric melodies of "Poem of Pysche". He ups the ante but maintains a similar mood on "Close 2 U", with the angelic hooks fused with a throbbing groove and indistinct vocal samples. Rounding off this impressive release is the title track, where Clarian revisits the same type of classical-infused, lush sounds as "Tatiana" - this time tied to an undulating dance floor rhythm.

Review: Tomas Ferrari and Maurizio Tramontana aka Beico & MT93 team up for a scintillating follow-up to last year's Eternity release on Suara. The title track is a peak time affair that resounds to filtered drums and a brooding, menacing bass. On "Black Eyes", the pair delivers a pounding rhythm that breaks down into white noise drops, while "Covenant" involves a different approach as gurgling acid lines unravel over a searing bass. Clearly, the duo is inspired by a range of sounds and styles, and "66 Angels" comes across like a modern, streamlined version of techno-trance, that early to mid-90s sound that encapsulated searing 303s and epic melodic highs - realised here against a back drop of pounding, punishing kicks.

Review: The latest release on Coyu's label is a compilation of upcoming producers. Both "The Power of Acid" by Giovanni Carozza & Black Shade and Chipi's "RAM 303" are relentless, heads-down 303 tracks, peppered with acid lines and insistent vocal samples. Meanwhile, Peja's "Nomen Luris" is powered by a searing sub-bass that is inspired by old school hardcore. I AM BAM draws on similar sources for inspiration, but instead peppers "Hell Tell" with wild rave stabs. ElementO's "Loaded" also looks to the past, but the fusion of call and response lyrics with wild acid builds and break downs sounds like Hardfloor mixed with hip house.

This (Lewis Fautzi remix) - (5:27) 130 BPM
Review: Charlotte De Witte has been threatening to break into the big time ever since her earliest releases on Tiga's Turbo label back in 2015. Following a prolific 2017 in which she released a string of acclaimed EPs, the Belgian producer makes her first appearance on Spanish imprint Suara. Check first the relentless, full throttle techno heaviness of "This" - think foreboding voices, constantly building drum machine percussion and occasional creepy electronics - before turning your attention to the strangely beguiling "This Heart of Mine", where solo vocal snippets echo over another bombastic rhythm track. To round off a fine EP, Lewis Fautzi delivers an intoxicating rework of "This" that's in the same sonic ball park as Kowton's remix of Throwing Shade's "Chancer" on Happy Skull.

Review: The rise of the titans right here! The two biggest hi-tech soul merchants from the United Kingdom team up here on Spanish imprint Suara, for some epic and futurist dancefloor drama on "Rise". Strict rhythms accompany layer upon layer of warm emotive pads and soaring synth leads - as you'd expect from the duo. Their further homage to Detroit (via Glasgow and London) continues on second original offering "Variable Slope" which brings the funk with its bleepy bassline and killer groove for a life affirming dancefloor journey. There's a couple of killer remixes too. French sonic wizardry from the one and only Voiski: who leivers a scorching rendition, plus a lovely neon-lit classic house perspective from the controversial Marquis Hawkes . If that was not enough, a sombre, deep electro re-take on the aforementioned "Rise" by Leipzig's Lake People caters to a more downbeat moment.

Julian Jeweil - "Forum" - (5:43) 126 BPM
Andres Campo & Dave Sinner - "Classified" - (6:52) 125 BPM Hot
Cristiano Balducci - "Still On Acid" (feat Hardton) - (5:47) 125 BPM
Mark Reeve - "Do It" - (7:07) 127 BPM
Review: There's a dramatic feel to the latest release on Coyu's label. It starts with the rolling snares and over the top chord builds of Julian Jeweil's "Forum", followed closely by Andres Campo's "Classified". Instead of melodies, the same sensibility is created through the use of rolling snares, hoover riffs and wild filters. Meanwhile, Cristiano Balducci partners with Hard Ton for "Still on Acid". Featuring a breathy narrative woven together with mysterious wailing, the interplay is supported by niggling 303s. Last but not least, Mark Reeve's "Do It" reverts to the same territory as Jeweil's contribution, only this time the surging chords are fused with old school break beats to create the requisite euphoric effect.

Satara - (7:32) 129 BPM Hot
Umbral - (7:57) 125 BPM
Review: Spain's Coyu and Bastian Bux's studio sessions are showing great results. This one is for local powerhouse Suara, who have presented some killer releases recently by the likes of Jeremy Olander, Camelphat and the Sao Paulo legend Victor Ruiz. The duo present us with two original tracks that are ripe for the summer season and proper indications to understand the new musical path Suara is taking this 2017. "Satara" features a fierce warehouse techno arrangement; banging about in reverb and aggression with a mesmerising harpsichord melody for good measure."Umbral" goes for cruise control on this moody and atmospheric chugger, that mixes some ethereal and hypnotic qualities in with more immaculately programmed drums and sublime melodies.

Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad (Oxia dub mix) - (6:35) 122 BPM
Review: This set of Moby remixes is the latest to appear this year, in quick succession after versions of his classics appeared on Drumcode. For this release, Coyu's label has commissioned a wide range of styles. Julian Jeweil turns "Porcelain" into an almost unrecognisable acid stomper, while at the other end of the spectrum, Victor Ruiz' take on "Go" fuses its unmistakable sample with a deep, rolling techno rhythm. For a pure, unadulterated hands in the air feeling, Reinier Zonneveld's take on "Natural Blues" is the version to head for, but for more serious techno fans, there's the ominous bass of Ruiz' 'Warehouse' take on "Go" and the deeply melodic Oxia version of "Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad" to contend with.

Review: British duo Campelphat are back with more fat tech house grooves, this time coutesy of Barcelona's always roaring Suara imprint. Strap yourself in for the peak time energy of lead track "Deets" with its hi-octane arpeggio, furious beats and their MCs rapid fire rhythm just adding to its intensity. "Lizard King" is more of a funked up and rolling affair that's geared for summertime crowds and will appeal to fans of the Gruuv or Saved sound. Finally be prepared for what sounded like the greatest progressive house anthem of all time (that you've never heard yet) on "The System". Some seriously life affirming vibes on this ripper. Hit prediction right here!

Review: Glaswegian techno hero Harvey McKay has released on a who's who of labels of late, not limited to
Drumcode, Intec, Cocoon, Bedrock and Soma but appears here for Barcelona imprint Suara with the Never Forget EP. The title track really channels that raw peak time energy that he has had going for Adam Beyer's label; particularly on the furious title track in all its pounding/tunneling glory, complete with early '90s rave aesthetics. The breakdown on this one is really for the nostalgic and will appeal to fans of Special Request, Alan Fitzgerald or of course Shed. "Use Me" is even more fast faced but funky, with its steely drums, loopy vocals and grinding stabs: reminded us of classic Marco Carola and the Neapolitan sound, turn of the millennium. Finally "Stolen Forest" hammers the message, home going all guns blazing on this peak time monster: Let those dub chords before the drop hypnotize you before he unleashes the power: this one is a lethal weapon.

Lucero Del Alba (Moscoman remix) - (8:20) 125 BPM
Dystopian (Fabrizio Mammarella remix) - (7:11) 118 BPM
Review: Spanish progressive house hero Henry Saiz presents the remixes of his brilliant Night Cult LP released earlier in the year and what one critic referred to as 'adult oriented dance music' and we'd have to agree with them on that one. There's some great contributions on here; the best being the most unlikely ones such as Tel Aviv disco prankster Moscoman's rendition of "Lucero Del Alba" and Italian nu-disco hero Fabrizio Mammarella (Black Spuma) with his grinding, late night dancefloor sleaze in full effect on "Dystopian". Rest assured that there's more of the deep and psyched-out tech stylings you would usually affiliate with Saiz on the other remix of the aforementioned track by Lithuanian Few Nolder; whose dark tech house journey track is quite the treat!

Review: Feline-loving German guy, Superlover, is the latest artist to grace the Suara label. As a producer, this guy is simply fuss-free; choosing to believe in the redemptive power of straight up feel-good house music. There are two sizzling tracks here for DJs heads and dancefloors hearts alike - "The Talking Machine" is a mid-paced funky house stomp, all repetitive bass loops and filters galore. "Retroverb" on the other hand, fully embraces disco, with vintage piano and bass samples and wild disco ball abandon. Hot!
