Review: Fokuz FM faces SHD tear-up with a long-awaited EP on their own label. Power surges from the off as the title track hammers an angular, mechanical message that owes as much to techno as it does dubstep. "Dutty" plunges us headfirst into the sub swamp. Tripped out groans wheeze over swinging halfsteps as more uplifting elements drive into the blend. "The People" flexes back to the source with a big juicy flavour. All space and shimmering guitars, its soothing yin prepares us for the dark smouldering gravel of "Babylon Rage". Gritty.

Review: Having set the sturdiest of bass foundations on Abyssal earlier this year, Reaction now builds on them with a solid four-track opus that marches forth with futurist intentions. "Tesla" is a dynamic dedication to the groove as militant drums develop over a salubrious sub. "Stomp!" is an ardent battle-jam with the grittiest bass you'll hear all year and it's countered by the authentic dub spaciousness of the Truth-style "Revolution". Finally we hit "Forgotten Smile", a barbed breezer with intricate rolling drums, breathing pads and minor-key weeps. Contemporary dubstep at its finest.

Review: Nottingham's Outbound tends to leapfrog from label to label but here he returns to his place of origin, Sub:Conscious. It's his biggest EP for a while too, boasting four tracks bursting with cinematic menace. Highlights include the growling dark alley vibes of the title track (a collaboration with DyAD & Lifesines), the dubbed out reggae haze of "24" and the twitchy, percussive "Ghifasy' - a collaboration with Karnage & Mark IV, which combines breathy synth pads and shimmering piano tinkles.

Review: Midlands murker DT lays down four originals on Sub:Conscious, and each one commands your explorative skills. "Impulse" says it all as there's an impulsive, knee-jerk sense of funk thanks to a really cool percussive technique introduced midway. Changing the concept of tempo and rhythm, he's created something unique. Dig deeper and you'll find the heavyweight meditative sub groans of "Burn Another One". Complete with a solid swing and demonic vocals, it's undiluted darkness. Next up are two collaborations; "Feral" sees him teaming up with Rubrica for a straight-up slab of growls while "The Descent" (penned with Arkwright) plunges us into raw bass insanity. Heaviness!
