Flat T - "Black Hole" - (4:30) 174 BPM

Conrad Subs - "Drop Top" - (5:13) 174 BPM
Review: Sub Heavy Audio keep things spinning with another volume of their Recycled VA series. Each cut primed for heavy wallopage - as you'd expect from the Sub Heavy crew - Damageman, Flat T, J.O.E and Conrad Subs all get stuck in with twisted bass textures and mischievous senses of funk. Highlights include Flat T's absolutely flattening 'Black Hole' and Conrad's wobbly grizzler 'Drop Top'. Run the tracks!

Closer (Sola remix) - (3:44) 174 BPM
Heartbeat (Damageman remix) - (4:28) 175 BPM Hot
Review: Remix alert! Sub Heavy Audio boost us back to 2021 when Neil Badboy dropped the dancefloor-slapping 'Closer' and the more liquid-charmed 'Heartbeat' and enlist two highly reputable acts to add their twist. Sola take on 'Closer' and give it more of a contemporary space funk twist while retaining the weight and emotional drive. Damageman, meanwhile, takes on 'Heartbeat' and turns it inside out with one of his signature bruiser grooves.

Review: Up next on Suffolk's Sub Heavy Audio is DJ Neil Badboy, an upfront drum and bass producer and 'old skool DJ' from Northampton who is part of the Audio Unity and Total Carnage crews. He brings the pressure on these two dynamic cuts; from the pop inflected jump-up throwdown of "Closer" with its infectious vocals and trance emotifs peppered throughout, to the liquid drum and bass roller "Heartbeat" which similarly features some breathtaking pop vocals which add contrast to the furious complexity of the arrangement beneath. Fierce!

What - (4:34) 175 BPM
Review: Classifyed is one of the best recent talents to emerge from the current smorgasbord that is the D&B scene, his rough and ready sound blends jump up currents with jungle stutters and it's ideal for any situation. Breakdown carries on that trend on Sub Heavy Audio and blimey, it's pretty damn good. 'What' is our favourite, with a hypnotic feel to the track that grounds its cracking percussive knocks within a framework of bassy shudders and groaning sweeps. It's a proper naughty, twisted sound, and the thriving nature of the scene right now drips from this release.

The Track With No Name - (4:26) 175 BPM

Review: One of the regular labels we feature are Sub Heavy Audio, a fantastic label that puts out a diverse sound ranging from techy rollers to jump-up steppers and even liquidy numbers. This week they've arrived with an EP from Damageman, who, across three tracks, spans various tones and styles, all of them rooted in a sense of dancefloor aggressiveness and all of them top-notch. 'What Doing' is a highlight, its rolling percussive line is pacey, loping and satisfying, whilst a smooth bass and sweeping low frequencies sit just above and inject all the force. 'War' is also a wicked track, with a lovely, stripped back drum line that's full of moody sonics. Top stuff.

Review: Damageman's Sub Heavy hits the big twenty with this supersized V/A EP from some of the label's nearest, dearest and ruffest of friends. The main man takes the lead with 'Tell You Something', a gently dubby stepper laced with sultry vox and wormy subs. He's backed all the way by the likes of Conrad Subs with the fittingly titled face-ripper 'Hefty One', J.O.E gets his skank on with the bulldozer funk-up 'Likkle Yout Man', DJ Direkt strips things right back to the bare grizzly bones on 'Untitled' while Trauma DBC closes down the EP with a full-on deadly 'Lazer' fight. Beam us up!

Review: Classy work from newcomer Classifyed as Sub Heavy Audio unleash his debut release. Four tracks, four opportunities to screw up your face in disgust and mutter all the words your parents told you not to say, we kick off with the Chronic style bubbles and hip-hop references of 'Back Of The Club' before cruising headfirst into a whole barrage of gully; the suspense and tension of 'Gimme That', the early 2000s Ram style layers and rolls of 'Dirty Funk' and the crisp breaks and interesting riddim of 'Rack Shack'. Top of the class.

Journey - (5:16) 175 BPM
Review: Following big boy bangers on the likes of Audio Danger, Hustlin Beats and Train Recordings, Cambridge's Trauma DBC makes his debut on Sub Heavy Audio with two furious fast lane flexers. 'Millions Of Miles' starts the engine with a buzzsaw bassline and a squelched out bass groove before 'Journey' brings us back home again with an early 2000s sound that's basically the audio equivalent of Trauma using us as a mop to wipe his filthy floor. Gully.

The Ridim - (4:27) 174 BPM Hot
Drop Tha - (4:34) 175 BPM
Review: J.O.E is on Sub Heavy Audio and is giving all of us a lesson in how to produce tough, stripped back sonics which carry more attitude than a rhino in heat. 'The Ridim' is the best example of this, as a no-nonsense drum line penetrates a precisely placed array of gully bass pulls and hair-rising low-frequency pushes. The flip is more classic jump-up, as a potent blast of stabs combine into the type of hands-in-the-air dancefloor action we've come to expect from the genre. Proper stuff.

Flatline / Monsoon

Monsoon - (4:24) 175 BPM
Review: Damageman, as you can tell from his name, is in this game to do serious damage to the eardrums of those who listen and this single seems like it was made with that objective in mind. Going it solo on this single with no collaborations, 'Flatline' is clean and sparse in the drums which lends extra clarity to the bassline, an elongated expression of moodiness with a quality injection of additional bounce. 'Monsoon' strikes a similar chord but does so with more vigour, a haunting set of sounds fill up the highs whilst a driving back end pushes the track forwards with pace and momentum. Big single.

Review: Hurtling towards their one year anniversary in style, Damageman's Sub Heavy Audio dish up their first substantial V/A EP with this epic five track exploration from some of their clear players. All wriggling and writhing around stripped back stinky vibe, each cut hits the spot with clarity and precision. Stand-out moments include the deft vocal sample twists and turns of Rodeo's "Moves", Damageman and Craftmus's springy black magic slap-about "Wicked Spells" and the sweeping, star-gazing rushes of Dec James' "Supernova" but all five cuts here deserve your full attention. Heavy is as heavy does...

Fatty - (5:13) 173 BPM Hot
Review: Sub Heavy soldier since one of the earliest releases, Conrad Subs returns to Damageman's imprint with two certified stink-ups. "Tough Enough" is the unruly, roughened sort. All bruisy and gruff. The type you wouldn't take home to your parents even if they promised to be on their best behaviour. Then we have the obese nature of "Fatty". A tune so rude you wouldn't even take it to your postcode due to its dark skank stench, classic rimshot breaks and unwieldy weeping basslines. Savage, raw and authentically jungle. This ain't fat, it's just big boned. So will you be when you watch it pop in the dance...

Review: Conrad Subs and Joe are in this game to do serious damage to the eardrums of those who listen and this single seems like it was made with that objective in mind. The first tune, 'Sloppy' is clean and sparse in the drums which lends extra clarity to the bassline, an elongated expression of moodiness with a quality injection of additional bounce. 'Close To Home' strikes a similar chord but does so with more vigour, a haunting sample fills up the highs whilst a driving back end pushes the track forwards with pace and momentum. Big single.

Falsehood - (4:05) 175 BPM Hot
Played by: Shrust
Review: Dec James is on Sub Heavy Audio with this nicely diverse little single that covers two entirely different vibes on each side. 'Breathing' rests heavily on a wispy sample and rolls out with big drums and a wobbling little bass underneath, which combines with the vocal to produce a track that's both soulful and heavy in equal measure. 'Falsehood' relies on an entirely different drum pattern that's reminiscent of Dimension's UK and which spirals out into a tumbling pattern of sines that's an absolute pleasure to listen to. Top single.

Eternal/It Is Everywhere
Eternal - (4:56) 175 BPM Hot
It Is Everywhere - (5:12) 175 BPM
Review: Some people say J.O.E stands for Just Oily Elephants. Other people say J.O.E stands for Juicy Oranges Everyday. The truth is we don't know. But he does sound like a proper slippery stampede and it does feel like he's maxed out on vitamin C, too. Heavy, vital and hookier than a pirate convention; "Eternal" is a blessy mixing tool with a bubbling, riffy bassline that can cut through any blend and bring a mix to life. "It Is Everywhere" takes us down a darker path thanks to its groaning, decaying bassline and rolling breaks. Both absolutely kill it in the dance.

Smash/Sayonara
Smash - (6:39) 175 BPM Hot
Sayonara - (4:26) 175 BPM
Review: Conrad Subs is one of those heavily underrated producers that seems to consistently push out music regardless of how much attention is cast his way. He plugs away and you can tell in the maturity that emanates from his music. The creativity on 'Smash' is evidence of that, a funky, infectious bass line running perfectly through the centre of the track. 'Sayonara' is just as creative with its harsh, steppy percussive work that underpins a swinging, wonky concoction of synthy basses that wouldn't be amiss in a Souped Up or Dispatch release.
