Review: Divide and conquer! Sub-Division put the mental back into compartmentalised with this massive 40-track flexback, bringing everyone up to speed on what the label does, who it works with, what it sounds like and how hard it punches. Reading like who's who in new-gen talent, across the 40 tracks we're treated to pure thunder from an exciting range of names including Beskar, Shayper, Cray Dee, Ruckus, Oli Lewis, Zoner, Phear Phace and many more, and it sonically ranges from the sprightly tongue-in-cheek funk of Herby's 'Crud' to the BSE-levels of all out neuro mayhem on Phear Phace's 'Away'. If you're not up to speed on Sub-Division then now is most definitely the time. Oof!

Review: Unless you're a big fan of the ice cream flavour, the title 'Vanilla Holiday' sounds like a cruise with your parents and no booze or late nights. Luckily the track from newcomer Cray Dee doesn't sound like that. All shiny and smooth with a touch of retro futurism, it's a sleek D&B banger that's fine-tuned for any good warm up situation. It's backed by five more cuts all ranging in size and style. Bangers include the plucked bass and pushed drums of 'London Bounce', the finger-clicking funk and guttural twists of 'Check It' and the tubular heads-down grit of 'Nano Monument'. Go crazy for Cray Dee.

Star Destroyer - (4:08) 172 BPM
Review: New Scottish talent Beskar slams into the new year with fresh fight-ready energy on this massive five track EP on Sub-Division. Big dancefloor vibes from the off 'Thunder Wasp' hits like a Prototypes record, all big cutlass sword basslines slicing left, right, centre. These big full flavour moves remain the theme of the EP throughout - 'Unnatural' wallops with a Ram-like energy, 'Slicer' is reminiscent of DC Breaks while 'I Know' and 'Star Destroyer' show off Beskar's more soulful and emotional side. 'I Know' tickles the cosmic sensibilities while 'Star Destroyer' is pure lighters-up ballad level business. One to watch.

Review: Phabulous phunk-ups here phrom Phear Phace as he makes his debut on Sub-Division with these phour tightly coiled neuro/tech phusions. 'Eternity' is all about the big Tantrum Desire-like dancefloor groove, 'Away' is a phrantic blast-back to mid 2000s Black Sun Empire, 'Whoru' has contemporary, gamey-style racing phibe while 'Astro' shoots us up phar into space to phrolic among meteors. Phire in the hole!

Review: Next up on Sub-Division is the third edition in their new Division series of various artist compilation EPs, featuring some of the most promising producers in the drum and bass scene at present. Entropy and G-H team up for some gnarly techstep on "Feel The Lights", MSR gets the party vibe in effect on the jump-up style of "My Sound", Ominous really lives up to his name on the neurofunk attitude of "Turn Up", as do Woolf & Anapa on the twisted breakbeat science of "Let Me Home".

Review: A new one on Brighton's Sub-Division Recordings this week by Ryan Salt aka Shayper, who is certainly no stranger to the label. This one is an extended EP titled Jackin', where the Norwich-based producer throws down a seriously gnarly and off-kilter brand of drum 'n' bass. First up he collaborates with Drowzee on the vocal number "Hypnosis", then serves up the contorted and menacing beats of the title track. Elsewhere, he revisits early '90s jungle on the tough steppa "Slam Dunk", while the rolling techstep of "Apocalypse" calls to mind timeless classics on Virus Recordings.

Review: Oh mister Sandman, bring us a dream, make him the gulliest stinker merchant we've ever seen... Don't worry, Sub-Division ain't gone barbershop on us, but they've defo got the razors out and are feeling sharp right now as yung Herby cracks open a fresh pot of basil and smears it over everything in sight. Honing his stripped-back, woozy raw sound that's he's been proffering since he broke through on Mashup two years ago, highlights include the spooky terpenes of creeper 'Kortan', the sticky fingers grubbiness of 'Crud' and the full body hit of 'Hung'. Sweet dreams.

Review: Slithering into our playlists once again, Sub-Division's hairiest member Woolf is back on the prowl. As always, it's an exciting and varied bag from the Brighton artist as we slip and slide between dark late 90s flavoured Virus style work-outs like 'Babylon Taking Over' and 'Slither' or more hair-raising shock-outs like the monstrous 'Slither' and the industrial strength battering of 'Flava'. Absolutely badness, ready for our long-awaited nights of freedom.

Review: Having twisted and screwed us inside out on Grid just weeks ago, Oli Lewis returns (this time on Sub-Division) with more carnal chaos. 'Stock Photo' is anything but stock. All steppy and stripped back but littered with weird elements, it's one of a kind and sets the vibe for the whole EP. It leads to many other highlights over the six-track selection. 'Melatonin' is a grumpy Amoss style grizzler, 'Lekker' slows things down to a cool 160 while bassline dogs bark and strange things melt away in the background while 'Believe' sounds like something Blame would have served up back in the late 90s. What a selection, what a spread - this is genuinely innovative. Yummy.

Review: Gung ho! That's what G-H stands for right now as he goes in on his latest Sub-Division selection. Six tracks deep, it's his biggest release to date and it packs a lot of punches. The sexy processed vocals and squelchy funk of 'Breaking Down', the rifle-like staccato of the beats and BP MC's bars on 'Lucid Dreams', the raw swampy grot of 'Darker Days', the elastic bassline badness of 'The Glow', the relentless technoid thumps and bumps on 'Battle Shout' and the grand finale fire-up 'Good Times' all serve up KO blows. Get heavy.

Review: Serious snake-like business from Scotsman Ruckus as he joins the gang on Sub-Division with four fiery work-outs. High in tension and tailored for the fast lane, 'System Error' lights the touchpaper with a swaggering halftime before dropping into a twisted, sinewy groove. It's backed up by many more missives; 'White Lies' is an eerie creeper touched with soulful reggae vocals, 'Longing' is a touching barbed soul piece with huge, thundering kicks and booming atmospherics while 'Total Recall' gets all sizzly and tense with high voltage textures and savage vocal clips.

Review: Sub-Division continues pushing the new generation of artists and sounds with this epic VA album featuring a whole load of hybrids and fusions from a barrage of exciting new talent. Highlights are left, right and centre but essential picks include Guzi's twisted flip on the stepper sound with the grizzly 'Continuum', Sinexia's savage, stripped-back 'HND' and a whole range of cuts from the fast-rising Shayper including the rifle-like war talk of 'Keep In Line' (with Amplify) Elsewhere pure futurism drips off every dark nook and crannie of Guzi & Woolf's 'Intimidate', Niterider & Warhead's 'No Way In' is a raw, unkempt slab of rolling grot and Herby's 'Next Stop' is the sonic equivalent of a swarm of hornets - and its buzzing around in your brain. This is just the tip of the 'Partitions' iceberg... Dig deep and find many more highlights yourself.

Review: Another week, another super exciting new artist from Newcastle for your radar. Following the likes of Nectax, Skantia, Stompz, Rantik, Hexa, JAK, Kastro, Scudd (to name a few) G-H makes himself known on Sub-Division with this heavyweight sixer. From the technoid groove of 'The Zone' to the off-kilter wobbles 'The Journey' to the twisted warps and trippy skippy kicks and curmudgeonly flavours of 'I Want You', it's serious statement of intent for G-H, Sub-Division and the Toon in general. Shayper & AMPLIFY - "Keep In Line" - (4:23) 175 BPM
Review: Things are shaping up very nicely for Shayper right now. After a string of heaters (quite literally in the case of 'Burnt Gerbil') on Sub-liminal, he's bounced over to Sub-Division with this EP of volcanic proportions. The title track says it all; 'Bounce' is a ludicrously bumping 4x4 slap-about with a drop so sick it makes the rona seem like a mere sniffle. It's in good company; 'Can You Feel' is absolute beast of a growler laced with all manner of glitches and twists while the 1.21 gigawatt crackles and sizzles of 'Pillow Bite' are the juiciest bits of cushion business in dnb since Andy C pinched a pillow a few years back. Elsewhere 'Keep In Line' (with Amplify) is pure fast lane aggro, 'System Raised' is grizzly stepper and 'Minimal Crunk' more than lives up to it name. More 'Bounce' to the ounce.

Review: Man like Guzi returns to Sub-Division with newcomer Woolf. They're howling and it's full moon ever single night. Six cuts deep, each one laced in tension and drama, highlights include the Noisia-like rises and falls on 'EMP', the dreamy, Detroit techno flavoured arpeggios of 'Balance' and the two solo tracks; Woolf's 'Voices' is a rave echo hurricane with lush harmonics while Guzi's 'Floating' brings the EP to an emotional conclusion with its driving liquid purrs and barbed, restrained creepiness. Sub-Division have always laid out a fine spread, but this one is extra generous. Don't delay, don't betray.

Doses - (4:01) 175 BPM Hot
Review: This release honestly doesn't mess around. It carries a serious sense of potency despite its clear lack of pretentious sophistication, because D&B of this type simply isn't about sophistication, it's about making something so filthy the audience won't even understand what hit them. Zoner has certainly accomplished that here, I mean just have a listen to the rippling sines, percussive naughtiness and bassline badassery that is 'Doses, a beautifully spacious tune that still manages to make you feel like you've been attacked by a dog. The flip is just as good, as 'Hold On' rattles through junglist breaks with abandon. Top stuff.

Review: Herby... For those rare moments when your DJ name is also the best descriptive term for a health food shop. The sounds are just as vitalising, too. Both baggy in the drum department, with nothing too tight on the grid and a nice loose feeling to the groove, 'Next Stop' is a real journey into sound with railway samples and some lovely spooky harmonics. 'Shivers' takes us into trippier climes with more of a pacey breakbeat and tubular sub doing all the talking. Watch out for the growls. Smelly.

Zoner & JAK (UK) - "The Revolution" (JAK (UK) remix) - (5:15) 172 BPM Hot
Review: Over on Juno regular Sub-Division Recordings, Zoner and Alex SLK are being given the remix treatment in a really cool, well put-together single that'll please heads from all sides of the scene. The first comes from Alex SLK himself, and he's flipped the original into a brooding, creeping piece of music that feels cold, tight and packed with latent aggression just waiting to emerge. The flip wears its heart slightly more in its sleeve, as JAK UK rolls out 'The Revolution' amidst a flowing arrangement of bouncing sine stabs and carving bass patches. Wicked.

Review: Fresh from his appearance on the Weapons Of Choice Wild Bunch compilation, Oli Lewis steps up to Sub-Division with his biggest release to date: the six track heavy "Too Hot" EP. Instantly rattling cages with the ludicrous bassline on "Jeroboam", Oli gets to work on us limb by limb; "32 Papers" nibbles at all our digits as we pull furious gun fingers, "I'm Feeling High" eats us at the knees thanks to its wriggled-out bassline and endless twists and turns, "Too Hot" goes right for the jugular with its ominous hollow tones while "The Fog" scoops out our brain like ice cream with its high frequency bass groans. Last but not least we see Lewis team up with Teej for a full bodied feast on the slinky-but-sinister "Soundboy's Dead". Sizzling.

Review: Sub-Division have absolutely bloody killed it with this one. Featuring 5 cuts from Shayper including features from Guzi and Substance, Infiltrate is a collection of pure, gully numbers that all sit comfortably within the scene trends at the moment. All 5 of these could be talked about it in detail, but 'Nagato' stands out for the sheer audacity of its sub bass, a wobbling, pulsating wall of energy that pushes out into all corners of the range. 'Rever' is also top stuff, with a wonderfully solid percussive line and a grungy, gargling back end that'll have any head screwing their face up. Bangers!

Review: Zoner is landing on Sub-Division with a really nice, varied EP that stretches out across both lighter, funkier tones and tracks which pack a bit more bite and aggression. Track one 'Feel It' rests upon a bed of synth work that feels melancholic but warm, a simple melody that grounds the whole tune around the drums and the bass in a classic bit of drum & bass arrangement. 'Home' is another highlight and it blends the pacey drum sound with wobbly sub-basses and soulful samples that rest above the drums with a floating feeling of ambience. Sick EP.

Review: Sub-Division are releasing the second instalment of their The Division series and it's another five tunes that all slap fairly comprehensively, with contributions from Guzi, Indirekt, Mosley and others. The spectrum gets spanned as well, with Guzi coming on with the synthy and up-beat 'Hold Me', which then leads directly into Indirekt's dark and wobbly 'Trailer' featuring BP MC, a tune that ushers in the rest of the EP in style. We especially dig Mosley's 'We Got These Things Alone', which is just a naughty bloody roller. Wicked work.

The highly strung minimal stepper "Intimidate" takes the lead with every bit of intention its name suggests and its backed by another pranged-out collab; the Virus-like, neuro-flecked fast-lane techy grunter "Elysium". Review: Sub-Division have absolutely bloody killed it with this one. Featuring 5 cuts from Guzi, Mains, Sam Harris, Sinexia and Woolf, The Division Vol. 1 is a collection of pure, gully rollers that all sit comfortably within the scene trends at the moment. All 5 of these could be talked about it in detail, but 'How I Feel' by Sam Harris stands out for the sheer audacity of its sub-bass, a wobbling, pulsating wall of energy that pushes out into all corners of the range. 'HND' by Sinexia is also top stuff, with a wonderfully solid percussive line and a grungy, gargling back end that'll have any head screwing their face up. Bangers!
