Review: Tapping into a series they launched back in 1993 to celebrate the culture of dubplates, the seminal foundation imprint Suburban Base dust off the Subplates series with a collection of gorgeous sun-kissed funk and deeper, darker D&B grooves from a number of impressive names who date back to the original birth of the movement. Highlights include the sassy swing and sweet feels of Marvellous Cain's 'Sweet Thing' and the lolloping double bass runs of Dead Dred's 'Black Pepper'.

Review: It's time to dive into a gorgeous box of nostalgia next as we return to Suburban Base Recordings for a tidy two track display, welcoming Timebase & Kromezone inside together with a pair of ruckus-inducing delights. First up we are greeted with a potent sense of bassy goodness as 'Unity' combines nostalgia-inducing chord stabs with tightly processed rolling drum breaks for a unique fusion of the old and new. Next to this, the sine waves are let loose in full force as 'Fireball' gives us another bottle of choppy heat, taking spooky vocal overlays and almost acidic synth textures for another unpredictable groove inducer. Lovely work!

Review: History time! Suburban Base dig deep into the vaults and remaster some of the most seminal works from two fellow Essex legendary labels... Juice and Splash. Both labels peaking around the mid 90s jungle/drum & bass crossover point, mostly built up around co-founder Undercover Agent's work and uncompromising sound, here we find some of the most important and influential records from the labels' catalogues reissued digitally. Classics in every direction from the choppy drums and grit of MTS's 'Baad Boy Sound', the cosmic outerplanetary funk of 'World Mash Up' the beyond-seminal 'Babylon' by Splash which still sounds 50 years ahead of its time, almost 30 years after its initial release!

Review: The one and only Marvellous Cain enjoys a timely reload on the seminal Suburban Base imprint with this crucial collection of limb-tearing proto-jungle blueprints, along with a number of exclusive and previously unreleased versions and classic dubs that have failed to see the light of day. Cuts such as the swinging 'Will I See You?', the super choppy 'Life Is Rolling' and 'Jump Up' all sound just as futuristic and heavyweight as they first did almost 30 years ago while the various twists on anthems like 'Hit Man' will forever remain universal. Wheel up!

Review: What a rush! Original Boogie Times / Suburban Base producer Jay D'Cruze takes us for a ride back in time on this crucial reissue collection of rarities and oldiest. 'Hardstep' takes us back to 96 with gritty annihilation and precision drums, 'Bittersweet' is a previously unreleased lesson in breakbeat science while 'Sublime State' (from his 96 album Cruzin') is a dreamier piece of work with loads of the jazzy touches he was known for. Finally we have a more contemporary curve ball 'Meus Precious Filius' which wouldn't go amiss in a John B trance 'n' bass set. Lets go for a Cruz!
