Review: The mighty Suburban Base returns with a second collection of blueprints that helped to shape one of the most important cultural phenomenons to happen in the UK since The Beatles - Jungle. A sound, style and mindset that still seems futuristic to this day, nothing sounded like these records at the time and they all still stand tall - and incredibly relevant - to this day. Highlights include the utterly seminal 'Babylon' by Splash, DJ Hype's choppy anthem 'Dawn Of The Fever', Lick Back Organisation's FSOL-sampling 'Music Of The Future' and the supreme euphoria of Dextrous's 'Jungle Theme'. Massive.

Review: The return of Suburban Base in the last few years has been a welcome breath of fresh air for all generations. Those who can remember the legacy and influence of Danny Donnely's brand the first time round will know the weight it carries. Those who are lucky enough to be too young to remember will appreciate the quality of the goods here; timeless jungle music for the ages. Take any track here - from fresh originals like AKAS's 'The Meaning' to revitalised classics like the VIP of Marvellous Cain's 'Wanted Dead Or Alive' - and the energy and vibe cannot be faulted. Consider the fact some of Singing Fats' last ever recorded vocals and the fact you have music by a king like Marky on here and this really is an exceptional collection. Big up the Subbase crew!

Review: Calling all foundation OGs! Seminal rave pioneers Suburban Base go back through their vaults to compile a collection of cuts that shaped the entire jungle drum & bass movement. All released on the label (or one of its many subsidiary labels) between the years of 92 - 94, these are all founding cornerstones of the scene we know and love today. They come courtesy of some of the most influential visionaries of the time... Marvellous Cain, Dextrous, Remarc, Winston Run Tings and many others are all celebrated on this EP that has more breaks than an American football match, more legends than a hall of fame and a sound that's still more futuristic than a 2092 sci-fi convention over 30 years later. Wheel up!

Review: Timeless jungle magic 2023-style. The late great Singing Fats is immortalised once again with this Cool Hand Flex classic, updated by X Nation and Marvellous Cain & DJ Choppah on the iconic Suburban Base. Things don't get much more foundation that these puppies; X Nation gets busy on those breaks and whips up a choppy choppy brew while Cain and Choppah let rip with a more contemporary dancefloor bassline attack. Both kill it. Fats RIP!

Review: Suburban Base Recordings have pulled every favour out of the back and left no stone unturned in their pursuit of creating a top quality compilation, giving us sixteen tracks of pure breakbeat energy. From start to finish, the quality level simply refuses to dip, from the jungle influenced drum dips and chords of 'Come My Selecta' from DJ Peekay, to the nostalgic hardcore melodies of Max Voltage's 'Make You Scream' and GBH's throwback-inspired roller in 'Back From The Grave'. Providing the perfect combination of jungle and breaks from start to finish, our highlights would have to include the jittering horn melodies of E.Kude's 'Common Sens', the synth-raining shimmers of E-Type's 'E-25' and of course the electrifying drum chops of D'Cruze's 'Life', alongside the awesome vocals of Rachel Wallace. Awesome work!

Review: OG pioneers Krome & Time get reflective and look back over their time in the foundation trenches, crafting blueprints we still work off to this day. This Suburban Base compendium is the result; 20 tracks deep (some of which have been on DAT and dub for well for the best part of 30 years), it covers their whole journey from their hardcore foundation to their more cosmic style of intergalactic drum & bass. Highlights include their rave-rushed piano-slammer 'Everybody Can Be' as Higher Level, their stripped-back percussive odyssey 'Final Destination' and their euphoric rave anthem 'The Slammer'. Make time for this.

Review: OG blueprint imprint Suburban Base continues to update its repertoire with timeless contemporary jungle and it comes from a key protagonist who's been at the forefront of rave since the very beginning - Aston Harvey (AKA Mr Blapps Posse, AKA one half of the Freestylers, Pirate Jams, Sol Brothers and many other acts) Here we find him linking with old mate Quicklung for a collection of breakbeat heaters that range from throat-slicing gully amen action ('Galactica') to pure euphoria floaty feels ('Moving On') and all ruffage references in between. Stunning.

Review: Oh gosh! Seminal business right here as Undercover Agent Splash allows his formative anthem 'Babylon' to be revisited. Ego Trippin take the lead with a full contemporary D&B update that slams and slaps in all the right places before newcomer Deadly Silence keeps things jungle techno in a spirit that's not dissimilar to the sounds you'd hear in Rupture. Elsewhere we're treated to two of the original remixes from 1994: DJ SS's twist is all-out jungle with some deliciously wavy edits and chops while Ray Keith's mix is a lesson in drum craft and dynamic space.

Review: History time! Suburban Base dig deep into the vaults and remaster some of the most seminal works from two fellow Essex legendary labels... Juice and Splash. Both labels peaking around the mid 90s jungle/drum & bass crossover point, mostly built up around co-founder Undercover Agent's work and uncompromising sound, here we find some of the most important and influential records from the labels' catalogues reissued digitally. Classics in every direction from the choppy drums and grit of MTS's 'Baad Boy Sound', the cosmic outerplanetary funk of 'World Mash Up' the beyond-seminal 'Babylon' by Splash which still sounds 50 years ahead of its time, almost 30 years after its initial release!

Review: It's time to dive into a gorgeous box of nostalgia next as we return to Suburban Base Recordings for a tidy two track display, welcoming Timebase & Kromezone inside together with a pair of ruckus-inducing delights. First up we are greeted with a potent sense of bassy goodness as 'Unity' combines nostalgia-inducing chord stabs with tightly processed rolling drum breaks for a unique fusion of the old and new. Next to this, the sine waves are let loose in full force as 'Fireball' gives us another bottle of choppy heat, taking spooky vocal overlays and almost acidic synth textures for another unpredictable groove inducer. Lovely work!

'Hardstep' takes us back to 96 with gritty annihilation and precision drums, 'Bittersweet' is a previously unreleased lesson in breakbeat science while 'Sublime State' (from his 96 album Cruzin') is a dreamier piece of work with loads of the jazzy touches he was known for. Finally we have a more contemporary curve ball 'Meus Precious Filius' which wouldn't go amiss in a John B trance 'n' bass set. Lets go for a Cruz!

On this quarter-century retrospective Dugs brings everyone up to speed as he moves through the 90s and, in turn, the development of hardcore into jungle and drum & bass. 50 seminal tracks deep, from Remarc's soundclash slewing "RIP" to Marvellous Cain's jungle blueprint "Hitman" via Q Bass and E Type's early explorations into synthesis on "Hardcore Will Never Die" and formative junglism from DJ Hype, our affable Uncle continues to join the dots with the past and the future with supreme levels of detail and knowledge.
