Review: Detroit soul, EU-minimalism and UK two-step in the house for Suol. Already responsible for a Tuff City Kids (aka Gerd Janson & Philip Lauer) release this year, the Berlin label ushers in the return of RR (with accomplice Birol) who already made an appearance on the label in 2019 with the Hallo Montag series. With an array of piano keys, chords and improvs that rain down on tunnelling acid lines, strings and synths, RR goes all the way with Birol on "Be Ready" and the vocal-tipped "At Midnight". Find dustier, atmospheric tracks in "Bert Muller" sent through a fatboy filter loop for something cleaner in Jad & The's remix. Problem Suolved.

Review: Last summer, Gerd Janson and Philip Lauer brought their giddily retro-futurist Tuff City Kids project to Suol for the very first time via an acid-fired single-track salvo. Here they continue their relationship with the long-running German house imprint through "Beau Tan", a typically glassy-eyed, colourful and attractive chunk of Balearic house liss full of catchy analogue bass, sustained strings, dreamy chords and jumpy synth stabs. The Ruff Stuff remix brilliantly twists the track into wilder new shapes (check the punchy beats and psychedelic acid lines), while the Intr0beatz rework is a slick chunk of heartwarming deep house haziness.

Review: Next up on German imprint Suol is Berlin legend Till Von Sein. He doesn't need a big introduction ahead of them telling you about his brand new EP called 1977 Love. What you perhaps don't know is that 1977 is the year Till was born - and this release is number 077 in the label's catalogue. He's back with more of his distinct blend of dusty and urban flavoured deep house on the jazzy tip. From the soul/funk inflected swagger of "Curtis" with its infectious breakbeats, the straight-ahead four-to-the-floor deep groove of "Stevie" and the emotive "Pepe" which goes for a more emotive, nu-jazz kind of feel that further demonstrates the diversity in this underrated producer's repertoire.

Review: Suol's weekly open-air parties at IPSE, Hallo Montag, have become a summer fixture in Berlin over the past few years. Like the parties, the accompanying series of EPs showcase "sunny tracks" from the label's roster of artists and like-minded guests. This second part of the 2018 edition contains some suitably bright and breezy cuts, with Jimpster's "Lightshine" - a carnival-ready chunk of deep house dancefloor bliss rich in dreamy chords and Latin percussion hits - standing out. There's plenty to gently warm the soul elsewhere across the EP, though, from the snappy, low-slung grooves, toasty chords and CeCe Rogers vocals of Atjazz's remix of Chopstick and JohnJon's "What Is House Music", to the sparkling, life-affirming goodness of Zepherin Saint's "Take You There (featuring Divinity)".

Review: Predictably, Suol has gathered together tracks from an impressive list of deep house producers for this expansive first volume in the Hallo Montag 2018 series. German veteran Ian Pooley sets the tone with the jacking, acid-tinged deep house bounce of "Time", before M Ono shows off his synthesizer soloing skills via the glassy-eyed Balearic house brilliance of "Waffelhaus". Iron Curtis's contribution, "The Further You Look", sounds simultaneously low-slung and gently dreamy (it's a fine combination), while Black Loops doff a cap to the greats of disco-house via the funk-fuelled, sample-heavy stomp of "Is This A Banger?" If you're in the mood for something a bit more bumping, the boompty-inspired stomp that is Carlo's "Lluvia" should be right up your alley.

Review: The second volume in Suol's artist retrospective series, Reviewed, drills down into the 11-year career of Till Von Sein, gathering together highlights from the deep house producer's bulging back catalogue. Naturally, it provides a fine overview, serving up selections that will work in a variety of dancefloor situations (warm-up, peak-time, and so on). Highlights come thick and fast, from the deep tropical house grooves of "Sunday Madness" and the chunky, disco house-goes-to-the-warehouse vibes of Chopstick hook-up "Backhipe", to the rumbling sub-bass and incessant cowbells of "U N U", and the string-laden, soul-fired deep house brilliance of Kollektiv Turmstrasse's remix of Fritz Kalkbrenner and Thalestroem collaboration "Blueprint".

Review: The latest offering on Chopstick & Johnjon's label comes all the way from India. SNAD is the pseudonym for Shyam Anand, who is also the brains behind the Goa-based label Gandu. While those type of associations with dance music usually conjure up images of all-night trance parties and tie-dyed garb, "Buttery" inhabits a different universe. Granted, it is hypnotic and tripped out, but it takes its cues from 90s deep house. Sensuous pads and keys unravel over a laid back, languid groove, albeit with tight drums and percussion, while a make vocal in the background mutters away 'all right'. Available only in digital format, "Buttery" is as deep and hypnotic as modern house gets.

Review: Suol's latest recruit is Chicagoan Snad, a producer who last year contributed rock solid cuts to compilation style EPs on Minibar and, more impressively, Smallville. Happily, there's much to set the pulse racing here, most notably the bubbly synth bass, drum machine handclaps, swirling chords and sun-ripe melodies of lead cut "Home Away From House". Elsewhere, "Deep Looking" sees him smother another crunchy, bustling drum machine groove with oceans-deep pads and liquid electronics, while Nick Stoynoff collaboration "Cut!!!" [sic] delivers a near perfect balance between chunky, jacking fare and leisurely, head-in-the-clouds deep house fluidity.

Review: Given that their discography stretches back to 2004, deep house lovers should know what to expect from Suol regulars Chopstick and Johnjon. Famed for avoiding scene fads and doing their own thing, the duo's cuts are rarely less than solid and club-ready. Further proof of their reliability is provided by the four tracks showcased here, not least the gentle looped stabs, glassy-eyed chords and inspirational spoken word vocal of "What is House Music". Elsewhere, "Salvation" is an ultra-deep excursion blessed with dreamy chords and snappy drum machine handclaps, "O-Negative" is a slightly more upbeat jog through intergalactic deep house territory, and "Catalisa" is a subtle and seductive tribute to New Jersey producers such as Ben Cormac and Nathaniel X.

Review: Berliners Meggy and Till Von Sein have already appeared a few times as a powerful force committed to pushing house music forwards. But now, with their latest joint EP, this duo's sonic language has reached a new level of effortless ease. The title track is an excellent example of this development. "Haza" builds on a beat, which gives the impression of having been assembled with velvet gloves on. The cool spirit of electro hisses through the treble, while heavy droning spaces ooze from the low end. "Ricky On Charlie" adds some more weight to the beat. Snares and claps wrestle stoically for supremacy with old-school house chords and commits itself entirely to the essentials. This direct approach is continued in the final track "Drei", with small swing concessions and warming harmonies. The diversely filtered synth basses wind their way through the final third of the track and underline the overall impression of the sound.

Review: "Changing Face" was the first single from Fritz Kalkbrenner's well received 2016 album Grand Depart and it now gets a bunch of stellar remixes by some of the scene's current heavyweights. Maya Jane Cole's soulful, sexy and emotive rendition is the kind of groove that will burn up dancefloors from London to Berlin and beyond this Summer, while Swiss hi-tech soul merchant Deetron hands in a wicked rendition as you'd expect. With its epic and life affirming chord progressions over some subtle latin and bossa influences: the guy can really do no wrong on the remix front. An honourable mention to the Harbour City's favourite sons Adana Twins, whose remix of the track takes you down the darkside and further into the abyss with its furious and tunnelling groove that would make their homeboys Stephan Bodzin and Andre Winter stand up and notice! The tremendous original appears here too for your convenience as well as a friendly radio edit.

Review: With summer fast approaching, Suol has decided to get ahead of the game with an EP chock full of sweltering, sun-kissed deep house treats. Atjazz kicks things off with the rich chord progressions, lilting synthesizer melodies and bouncy drums of sunset-friendly shuffler "Programme Sunlight", before label regulars Chopstick and Johnjon serve up the similarly positive and breezy "Last Night". Elsewhere, Matthias Vogt cranks out the languid, life-affirming pianos and blissful electronics on Balearic house gem "Chanterelle", M.Ono delivers a loved-up twist on loopy disco house, and Carlo drops a chunk of bumpin', bass-heavy goodness blessed with sun-bright guitar flourishes. Best of all, though, is Meggy and Tigerskin's "Bygone Eras", a slick and sultry chunk of sun-bright modern soul.

Review: Reviewed is Suol's new digital-only compilation series, and has apparently been designed to showcase the tracks and remixes of some of the label's most productive artists. This first volume focuses on the prolific Chopstick & Johnjon, gathering together 14 career highlights and a non-stop DJ mix of the same material. Predictably, there's much to enjoy, from the darting Latin pianos, soulful vocals, slab bass and jumpy beats of the duo's "rediscovered" remix of Siri Svegler's "Silent Viewer", to the trippy, bass-heavy hypnotism of "A New Dub", a fine collaboration with old pal Fritz Kalkbrenner. Other highlights include the stomping blues-house voodoo of "Listen", the woozy, late night deep house dreaminess of "Birds", and the melodious, riff-heavy hustle of "Rebound".

Review: Chopstick & Johnjon are Chi-Thien Nguyen and John Muder; head honchos of Suol Music based out of Berlin. Versions 2 follows up the first volume which was released back in 2012 and on this one we've got some really great grooves. Take for instance the sunny, bouncy and slightly retro flavoured deep house of "Keep It Real Son" which will appeal to fans of Tuff City Kids or Kim Brown. Also there's the cowbell driven nu-disco boogie of "I Need Your Love" which is absolutely infectious and "String For Fools"; definitely the most serious track on here and will create some sure moments of dancefloor drama with those strings reminiscent of hits like "Full Clip" and, well.. "Strings For Life" of course!

Review: Dortmund based Larse has been a mainstay on the Berlin based Suol imprint, but also appeared here and there for Noir, Lany and Dikso too over the years. Here he delivers more deep house to groove to on On Canvas Pt 2. Starting out with the the bittersweet and emotive "Beat Goes On" featuring some powerful strings, there's also more quality on the energetic tech house of "In & Out" featuring some soulfull Detroit style pads and seductive flamenco guitar flourishes. Finally "Taboche" merges some folk influences with yet more finger picked guitar and a bouncy synth bass for a lovely contrast.

Review: For his latest outing on regular home Suol, Till Von Sein appears to have distilled the essence of carnival - at least on standout "U.N.U". It seems tailor-made to raise temperatures at outdoor parties, with distinctive cowbell lines, clipped guitars and well-placed disco cymbals riding a speaker-shaking sub-bass line and sturdy kick-drums. In contrast, "Itiswhatitis" boasts the German producer's trademark shuffling tech-house drums, alongside all manner of lilting electronic motifs. The summery mood returns on closer "Dappat Se Gat", where tumbling guitars, synthesized steels drums and swirling pads cascade down over an elastic deep house groove. His EPs are rarely less than solid, but this is one of his finest for a while.

Review: Surprisingly, it's been three years since Lars Brodherr's last EP, The Sun EP on True Romance. On Canvas Part 1 is a fine return, with the German producer laying down a trio of tasty deep house treats. One-time Naked Music regular Lisa Shaw guests on the slick, smooth and soulful flex of "Wanna Be Like You" (which is available in both full-length and Radio Edit versions), while "Connection" sees Brodherr layering up intoxicating, Tenaglia-like synth parts on the loose tech-house jam "Connection". Arguably best of all, though, is "Kind of Culture", whose sampled, Future Sound of London style freestyle vocals, music box melodies and lolloping groove combine in the most beautiful of ways.

Review: Tender Games return to Suol with a bubbling new single backed by two scorching remixes. "Lost" is a mid-tempo deep house workout complete with silky, seductive melodies and an Eastern vibe to its vocals - perhaps more of a pop hit that dance music track. As for the remixes, Ben Pearce comes through with an anthem in the form of a stepping, piano-led dance bomb, while Chopstick & Johnjon go for the all-out house flex on their version in what is most certainly the most playable of the lot.
