Review: It's been quite a year for Lidvall, with release on Soma and MindTrip among others. Now he rounds off 2024 in style, with his first EP for Symbolism. Despite being a relatively new producer, there is an impressive variety of styles on offer here. "Morphine" resounds to intense tribal drums and skipping percussion, with these elements underpinning eerie synth lines. "He Scares Me" is in a similar vein, albeit with a focus on concrete weight kicks. Lidvall changes direction with "Too Serious", a visceral minimal workout led by abrasive riffs. "Gothic" sees him deliver a more atmospheric take on this sound. "Strings Theory" is also stripped back, but it resounds to chiming bells and a sleek, metallic rhythm.

Review: Seddig has only released a handful of EPs, but this release shows that he's a producer to watch out for. Both "Oison" and "Forest Of Manura" are hypnotic but forceful tracks that meld multi-layered tones and dense tribal grooves. "Matchbox Collider" is more stripped back but still driving, as Seddig lays down tough kicks and a steely rhythm. "CP1919" is less direct. Based on gentle back beats, it resounds to captivating filters and otherworldly samples. The title track sees Seddig pick up the pace, albeit in a subtle manner. Centred on a rolling bass, it unfolds to reveal understated, evocative riffs.

Review: Symbolism welcomes a new artist to the fold. There's not much information on Ana Rs, but this debut release for the label shows that she is well-versed in making impactful club techno. "The Shadow Between Us" is a cavernous dub track, led by skipping percussion and layered chords. In contrast, "Abstract Mind" is a raw, rasping production and "Take Me There" is a dramatic, stab-heavy peak time workout. Ana raises the intensity stakes further on "From The Brink", where pulsating acid plays out over booming kicks and an ominous bass. Rounding off this fine debut is "Wipe Out", a white-knuckle ride through minimal techno, led by jittery percussion.

Review: The latest release on Symbolism is a meeting of two great techno minds, as Swedish veteran Samuel L Session hooks up with Belgian hotshot Van Czar. "Morning Debris" sees the pair fuse wild acid sequences with rolling tribal drums. While "Marked Spot" is based on a similar rhythmic backdrop, the sound is deeper, as melancholic synths unravel over the lean groove. The title track sees Session and Van Czar put the focus on the drums and bass, as a pulsating low end unfolds over razor sharp percussion. "First Man" marks another shift, this time with the pair reverting to a tweaked acid sound, playing out over a driving groove.

Review: More than most techno producers, Mike Storm is attuned to working in the album format, and his series of releases for Axis is testament to this expertise. Storm's latest long player, issued on Ben Sims' Symbolism imprint, picks up where the body of work for Axis left off; it includes atmospheric pieces such as "Into The New Light" and tribal workouts like "Biological Activity" and "1977 Days" that would sound at home on Jeff Mills' Something in the Sky imprint. Storm also showcases his harder edge here, and the spiky, metallic drums of "No Human World" and the dense, hammering rhythm on "Exo 1606" provide reminders of why techno luminaries like Sims and Mills hold him in such high regard.

Review: Stefan Vincent is back with a riveting new release this week on Ben Sims' long running Symbolism imprint, following terrific material on ART, Token and Balans. Inhabiting The Same Space In A Different World features four typically functional main room techno tools for direct impact: the hypnotic, heads-down Robert Hood vibe of "Imposter" opens up the EP, followed by the emotive and majestic minimalism of "Renunciation" in the vein of legend Jeff Mills, and the sublime syncopated rhythm work of "Contorted" being just some of the highlights on this dynamic EP.

Review: Ben Sims builds on the first Synchronicity instalment with another compelling collection of emerging techno producers. Kerrie and Szmer's contributions both draw on minimal techno for inspiration, with the former following an acid-laced path and the latter incorporating repetitive bleeps and haunting synths into the arrangement. The compilation takes a Detroit turn on Insolate's "Night Love" - a blurry, jittery slice of techno with shades of Juan Atkins and Terrence Dixon. Meanwhile, a deeper but still dance floor sound is audible on Private Press' "Wiadomo Driven", where bleeps and tones fly off the rigid rhythm at random. Reflecting Sims' own tough but diverse DJ sound, Synchronicity also throws out some curve balls, like the dubbed out "Rectifier Direct" from A Thousand Details.
