Review: Damon Wild dons his Mistaken Identity guise for the latest EP on his resurgent Synewave label, and it finds the US techno maestro burrowing into the deeper realms of his sound to create a truly hypnotic kind of boss-level techno. "Mindset" is all low-end pulse that will feel incredible hitting your bones from a proper system, while "Varity" takes a lighter approach that focuses on the upper frequencies. "Scalene" gets lost in an endless loop with a soupcon of disco woven in, and "Backdoor" has a metallic, dubbed out central hook that sounds perfect reverberating over the stern, stripped back rhythms.

Review: Ricardo Rodrigues hasn't been active as Industrialyzer for some years, but if there was ever an occasion to revisit the uncompromising techno alias, a release on Damon Wild's legendary Synewave label must surely be it. The Portuguese artist goes in on "Analog Planet" with fearsome intent, serving up that Robert Hood-flavoured mechanized, weaponised loop goodness that gets the business end of the night shaking the way it should. "Multiple Walls" is a funkier affair with a playful organ line, but then it's back to the darkside with the devilish "Orbit X", rounding out an EP of no-nonsense techno like momma used to make.

Review: Damon Wild's Synewave label is still going strong, plunging ever further into the hinterland of looped up techno and dragging your consciousness with it. On this new release Wild is pinging bleeps around the sequencer grid through the course of "Timelapse", and highly immersive it is too. The "Timemachine dub" of the track is even more seductive with its Sleeparchive-style synth oddities and sparse arrangement. Function comes on board for an un-easier remix of "Timelapse" that veers towards the full-blown paranoid, and then Postscriptum drops a killer version to finish the EP off, all jagged off beat kicks and heavy textural swells.

Review: It's been a while, but Damon Wild's Synewave label is back in action to continue more than 20 years of service to the techno game, and this collaborative release with Jurek Przezdziecki shows that both label and artists are on searing form. Of the original tracks on offer, "Clutch" presents a slightly more subtle approach with its low frequency acid thrum steadily building in intensity compared to the upfront jackhammer intensity of "Snatch". Cisco Ferreira gets invited to do a remix of "Clutch" as The Advent, and makes it into a deep, cyclical stomper, and then Gotshell ramps up the noise for an even tougher version of the track.

Rain - (5:47) 127 BPM
Slum House - (7:06) 126 BPM
Review: Delko covers a lot of bases on Slum House. Starting with the intense bass and noisy percussive judders of "Mode", the walls of noise that build and peak throughout the arrangement set the tone for "Echo". As intense as its predecessor, it sees pounding beats support visceral filtering and lost it vocal samples. However, Delko is not just about pounding the listener into submission: on "Rain", a dubbier, more teased out approach is audible, even though the beats are still pounding. Meanwhile the title track offers a form of halfway house, with eerie soundtracks and a malfunctioning robot vocal and insane rave riffs underpinned by slamming dub beats.

Acid Signal EP
Acid Signal - (6:37) 126 BPM
Signal On - (7:16) 125 BPM Biggest-selling track on this release
Signal Off - (7:50) 124 BPM
Review: New York techno label Synewave has been delivering lean and mean 303-tinged rhythms for over 15 years and Signal goes to show that some sounds never go out of style. The same niggling, insinuating acid sound is prevalent on the title track that has long been a common feature of the label's releases. The key difference though is that the beats are tougher and fuller and not as stripped back. "Signal On" furthers this approach, with a surging bassline and robust toms bubbling beneath the surface, while "Signal Off" sees the duo focus on the peak time, as insane chord stabs and a visceral rhythm vie for the listener's attention.

Robot Therapy (original mix) - (8:15) 122 BPM
Review: Fresh from his/her release on Gynoid, Advanced Human delivers a hard-hitting release for New York institution Synewave. "Interplanetary Assaults - Sci-Fi Dub" is based on heavy rhythms and jarring rave riffs, and the Warehouse mix has a more contemporary edge, taking its inspiration from the Kalon/Frozen Border school of dense, off-beat rhythms. Despite this, it forgoes subtlety as droning riffs and powerful filters lead into a dramatic breakdown. "Robot Therapy" sees Advanced Human revert to slamming rhythms and filtered, metallic riffing, while DJ Hi Shock bangs the acid box to the point of implosion with his intense, grainy interpretation. It's a thrilling, white-knuckle ride that techno purists will find irresistible.

Review: The second in the series of remixes of Damon Wild's "Avion" features established names and newcomers alike, but as befits such an evergreen release, manages to cover a wide range of classic techno styles. Orlando Voorn's take is a tranced out groove featuring the static hiss and whirr of modems, while Pacou delivers a chord-heavy rolling groove. The newer producers also impress: Heron's doubled up beats play host to evil acid lines, Steve Lorenz drops an update on loopy, filtered techno, Conde Cero's version draws on the dense feeling that Dettmann evokes, and best of all, the Relativ Noizik version is full of crashing snares and surging 303s - reminiscent of the sound of classic Synewave records.

Avion (original (remastered)) - (5:52) 129 BPM
Review: Veteran US techno producer revisits his 1996 "Avion" release. It's testament to Wild's talents that the gloriously dense percussion and spine shivering, arcing acid lines sound fresh despite the passage of 15 years. The calibre of remixers also shows what high regard his work is held in by the current generation of techno producers. John Mitchell delivers a fast-paced, filtered take, Jurek Przezdziecki's version is underpinned by a sinewy bassline and shaking cowbells, while the 88UW version is more slamming, the driving rhythms populated by atonal bleeps. However, it's Marcel Dettmann and Echoplex who impress the most: the Berghain resident is on fine form with his dense, hypnotic rhythms and evil acid licks while Echoplex brings a lighter, melodic approach to the fore.
