Review: For those who have ever wondered what a William Basinski and Leyland Kirby collaboration might sound like, Lamentations should give you a pretty good idea. By combining elements of vinyl/tape loops with crackle, pop, degradation and a touch of classic, opera and ballroom aesthetics, deeply introverted drone, end of the world atmospheres and poetic narratives on this LP are beautiful and overwhelming at the same time. Not a record for the faint hearted, it's easy to imagine oneself here cutting through a luscious abyss of distant memories, sombre tones and lilting themes of theatrical dissonance, natural allure and deep seated love and affection.
