Review: These days, Tevo Howard seems to release just as many blissful, post-synth-pop cuts as he does club-ready deep house workouts. Happily, the expansive Doctor Machine focuses far more on the latter, combining the producer's vintage Chicago house roots with occasional nods towards dreamy synth-wave and the superior end of Italo-disco. Highlights are plentiful throughout, and include the Larry Heard-ish warmth of "Remembrance", the bustling, acid-and-bleep fired brilliance of "The Art of Romance", the Gherkin Jerks-meet-early-Pet Shop Box flex of "Love Dial/7 Days a Week" and the jaunty, beat-less synthesizer ambience of jazzy closer "The Treaty of the Paradises".
Review: Tevo Howard's decided to have a Lazy Afternoon, and we're all invited. The eccentric Chicagoan sets the tone with "Brother To Brother (House Mix)", a lo-fi treat built around dreamy pads, chiming melodies, sampled boogie bass and richly undulating chords. "Hold On" adds a little electro and synth pop into the mix, whilst retaining the same core aesthetic, while "On The Move" is a little more driving, but no less fuzzy. "Relax & Grind" sounds like synthesized dub disco after a few too many happy pills, while title track "Lazy Afternoon" is a breezy treat, full of Spanish sounding bass riffs, flowery pianos, and curiously odd effects.

Review: We were wondering what Tevo Howard had been up to over the last few months, but we are pleased to hear that he's doing just fine and he's in fine form, as per usual. The Chicago lo-fi house producer is a master at making deep, luscious house tunes that work just as well off the floor as they do on it, and here he has four gorgeous mixes of the "Dependency" tune. The Big Boy pop mix is warm and subtle with sliding toms and snares, the house mix adds in more melodies and is built for the dance, while the New Jack On The Block mix does it exactly what it says on the tin, and the Underground mix goes deeper than all its siblings. You also get the chord-heavy Beast mix of 'Love Story", a masterful and soothing tune for anyone to enjoy.
