Animais Soar O Alarme - (6:34) 110 BPM

Animais Soar O Alarme (Patrick Russell remix) - (5:41) 149 BPM Hot
Review: Ninos Du Brasil is the project of Nico Vascellari and Nicolo Fortuni, who released an album, Vida Eterna on Hospital Productions earlier this year. This debut for New York's The Bunker was taken from the same session and shows why the act is so revered. The title track is a mid-paced affair, its swaggering rhythm and dense, broken beats populated by garbled vocal samples and layered white noise. Bunker resident Patrick Russell is tasked with reworking "Animais.." and does a fine job. Deploying a more stripped back groove, he turns the original track's textures into a droning, frazzled segue that really comes to life on a big system.

Review: The Bunker delves deep into psychedelic realms for its twenty-sixth record. The work of Jeremy Berman, a self-confessed vinyl and gear nerd who hooked up, unsurprisingly, with the Bunker crew via I-f's now defunct Cybernetic Broadcasting Systems, Nomadic paints a vivid sonic picture. It starts with the layered, complex rhythms and tones of "Sub-Saharan Jitter", an abstract yet strangely funky jam that is reminiscent of Morphosis at his most accessible. It's followed by "Taiga", where Berman descends into tripped out, bleep techno, a bit like Sandwell District, but with a more raw, analogue aesthetic. Closing the release are the hypnotic drones of "1,000 Vines".

Review: Kalaatsakia is Haslam's fourth album and sees the US producer flit between underground techno and more experimental sounds. This approach is audible from the get-go with the angular, jacking "Broadcast" followed by the weird, dissected tones and blips of "Kalapuyan" and the atmospheric white noise of "Nxbound". Despite moving between these diverse bases, there is also some middle ground and the aptly named "Transdisciplinary" and the more brooding "Kjolle" are hypnotic electro workouts. In the main though, this is a work of extremes. This is best characterised by the contrast between the melancholic synths and head nodding beats on "Rservoir" and the storming analogue techno of "Istvaeonic".

Scale No Flam (Servito & Cudmore Bass Shift mix) - (7:44) 125 BPM Hot
Played by: Honey Soundsystem
Review: Haslam is one of the more prolific techno artists, with four albums - three under his own name and one as Romans with Tin Man - to his credit in the past four years. As Scale demonstrates though, a high volume of releases has not had a detrimental impact on the quality of his work. The title track on his latest outing for Bunker shows why he is such a talented artist. Despite easily passing the 130bpm mark, its combination of bleeding acid and whiplash percussion is imbued with an innate sense of funk, in the same manner as early Cristian Vogel or vintage Communique releases. There's also a real treat for Bunker fans with Mike Servito and Justin Cudmore team up to turn "Scale" into a throbbing underground groove.

Review: The Bunker's label has helped to cultivate a number of new techno acts over the past few years, and the latest artist to step up is Justin Cudmore. The Brooklyn-based DJ and producer first showcased his material on an EP for Honey Sound System last year, and Forget It provides further proof of his promise. The title track is a bleepy, acid-fuelled Chicago house track, while "New Jack The House" follows in a similar vein, albeit with rougher beats. "Moment" sees Cudmore fuse his love of 303s with the pitch-bent minimalism of Dan Bell, while on "Sweet Phantasy" he relives the energy of mid-west raves, as trancey chords flow over heavy drums.

Review: Valere Aude is Romans' debut album and continues to explore Gunnar Haslam and Tin Man's two main interests; the ancient Roman civilisation and the acid sound. That said, Valere Aude is wider in scope than the previous Romans EPs. It veers in sound from the rough analogue techno of "Zarai" and "Dura Agameia" through the fey, toy town melodies of "Via Agrippa" and into "Markouna", which sounds like the pair's tribute to Rob Hood minimalism. Despite these shifts from the Romans script, there are plenty of the hypnotic, 303-led tracks that the act is best-known for, most audible on the machine funk of "Legia" and the epic album closer, "Oeviodunum".

Review: Igarashi is a significant name in his native Japan, but his star is only beginning to ascend in the West. This was thanks initially to a release on Peter Van Hoesen's label and now this record on New York club The Bunker's in-house imprint. Suffice to say that Igarashi is fully deserving of the hype. "Part 1" is led by spiky 808s and a pulsing, lithe rhythm, while on "Part 2" he goes farther down the wormhole. Led by translucent trance stabs, it sees Igarashi mine the same hypnotic techno path as Mike Parker. The third part is more pulsing and less frosty but on the fourth and final "Machine" he vanishes back down the frazzled tonal path he first explored on "Part 2".

Review: Given that one of his previous projects involved creating a robotic gamelan orchestra, it is no surprise to learn that Aaron Kuffner approaches techno differently than the majority of his peers. On his latest release for The Bunker, Kuffner's adventurous sound is audible throughout. The title track is a high-paced tribal affair, while "An Army of Crickets" sees him veer into a grungy corner, where a soupy bass and a low-slung, muddy rhythm prevails. Kuffner explores other, quite different avenues too; "Wading" is a low-slung, moody rhythm, while "Trickles" is a bubbling, melodic groove, with all of the intricacies of an Indonesian funeral dirge.

Zemi17 - "Rangda" (Patrick Russell remix) - (6:31) 134 BPM
Review: Best-known for his extended DJ sets at Detroit parties like No Way Back, Patrick Russell steps into the studio to deliver this remix EP. It's clear that Russell has brought his years of experience behind the decks to this task. He turns Clay Wilson's "E4" into a blissed out, grey noise-led down tempo track, while his take on Romans' "Coptos" sees him go for the dance floor jugular with a dense, percussive rhythm shot through with insistent acid bleeps. Best of all though is his take on Zemi17's "Rangda". Its beautiful melodies and chiming rhythm makes for a deep, seductive track that'll work on more discerning dance floors.

Review: The Bunker New York rarely mess around when it comes to techno. With a few notable exceptions, their releases are rarely less than thrillingly forthright and intense. Certainly, this surprise EP from veteran techno producer Mark Verbos - a man whose discography stretches back over 20 years - fits that remit. Flitting between acid-laden psychedelic intensity ("Just A Little Late"), high-octane loop jams ("In The Back Room") and sweaty, all-out assaults on the senses (the metallic madness that is "Start Up Drive"), it portrays Verbos as a masterful producer of no-holds-barred dancefloor techno. Interestingly, he diverts a little from the script on the EP's final moment, "Walk The Distance", combining sparse dub techno rhythms and ghostly electronics.

Cloud Pillar - (15:33) 126 BPM
Review: Forma are known for their ambient/cosmic work on labels like Spectrum Spools, so this release marks a departure of sorts. It still features those great layers of sound that characterise their leftfield sounds, and the title track begins with animal shrieks and expanses of swirling, glacial synths. Eventually, Forma introduce kick drums and the track morphs into a tripped out, acidic affair. There is a similar approach audible on "Cloud Pillar"; the kick drums are audible from the outset and Forma use snare rolls sporadically to ramp up the intensity levels, but it's the expansive, textured soundscapes that really captivate and hypnotise the listener.

Rangda - (12:18) 64 BPM
Review: When one of your past achievements include creating the world's first robotic gamelan orchestra, then releasing a record for a techno label probably doesn't seem daunting - even if it is the respected Bunker imprint from New York. That said, Aaron Taylor Kuffner has done his best to deliver a release that plays at the fringes of dance floor electronic music. The title track resonates to steely drums, but it's the finer details that really impress. Rickety effects, microscopic bleeps and a cacophony of bells that gradually get louder and more discordant as the track progresses mark it out as unusual. Kuffner follows a similar approach on "Rangda", where a clanging percussive groove collides with a wall of electronic noise.

Marching On The Rings Of Saturn - (12:41) 132 BPM Hot
Review: Fittingly, the Bunker's offshoot label is just as adventurous as the New York club itself - and Marco Shuttle's Fanfara upholds this experimental approach. Thankfully though, Shuttle favours experimentalism with a small 'e' and his adventures in sound don't come at the expense of providing dance floor excitement. The title track evolves from dense and textured drones, a throbbing bassline kicking in after a short intro, followed by out there, extra-terrestrial sounds and effects. "Marching on the Rings Of Saturn" is more intense as sheets of percussive fury are shot over a pounding backing, but in the background there are waves of abstract sound and textures that keep the listener guessing.

So far this year Clay Wilson, Voices From The Lake and Turkish artist Lot.te have helped the nightclub-turned label make their stamp on 2014 following their inauguration by Leisure Muffin in January. This time around it's local talent Ulysses who delivers the goods; "The Casual Mystic" has a real Tropic Of Cancer vibe to it with moaning basslines, softly hissing snares and guitars, while "Throne Of Bubbles" is a disjointed mess of drums, percussion and one hell of a bassline. The final track "Nanook" sounds like DeepChord and Dadub collaborating to produce something of a soft and syncopated feel that lands somewhere in the uncharted world of instrumental dub techno. Watch out!

Review: The fourth instalment in renowned New York club The Bunker's label offshoot is, as one might expect, an individualistic affair. Visual and graphic artist Lot.te has dabbled with soundscapes before, but he is now moving into the world of techno and his debut foray is an impressive one. The title track swings and grooves to the sound of insidious acid, the faraway chiming of dark bells and loose tracts of percussion. "Private Transgressions" is even more left of centre; slower and dubbed out, its lazy shanty may not work on some dance floors, but in The Bunker's world it'll make perfect sense.

Review: It was only a matter of time before the fabled New York club The Bunker set up a spin off label - indeed it's surprising that it didn't happen sooner. For this second release, the label has recruited newcomer Clay Wilson. "E4" is a ponderous affair, as teased out and labyrinthine as spending eight hours in the Bunker itself. Its languid groove moves from understated drones into darker, more introspective textures without missing a beat. "Socorro" is radically different both in tone and purpose: its reduced beats and breathy pads sounds like the kind of track Perlon's Zip would drop in an early morning set. Before long though, the mood swings back to the grimy and subterranean, as "Oizumi" is powered by all-encompassing drones.

Review: New York techno club The Bunker expands operations with the launch of a new label The Bunker New York. Despite the calibre of artists that have played the club over the years, includes Regis, Silent Servant, Marco Shuttle and Peter Van Hoesen in the past 12 months alone, the first release from the label opts to highlight one of the "characters who lurk in the shadows of the party" in the shape of Leisure Muffin. A Bunker regular otherwise known as Michael Hopkins, Leisure Muffin's music is produced with a modular synth setup and is described by the label as a "modern take on kosmische music". Apparently produced last year as Hopkins looked after his dying mother, the record is supposedly influenced by early Warp Records artists like Seefeel and Autechre, as well as Drexciya, Coil, and recent Morphine retrospective subject Charles Cohen, with whom Hopkins has previously collaborated.
