Review: Mexican producer Franco Alvarez has been plying his trade as Disco Feelings for five years, but while many of his releases have found favour with yours truly, none has hit quite so hard as this new four-tracker, which really is the proverbial bomb! The EP opens with the slinky, sensual and strutty 'Martini Groove' itself, then moves on through the fat-bottomed 'The Loft' and the deep disco house of the stunning 'One Day' before playing us out with the gloriously squelchy 'Groove Exhibition', which flirts with early 80s jazz-funk tropes but underpins same with a superbly phat bassline and tops the lot with a spooky "What is that sound? Can you hear it?" vocal sample.
Review: Italian-born but now based in Melbourne, Australia, Brother Julian has a release CV stretching back over a decade, not to mention a neat sideline in production tutorials on his YouTube channel. The man knows his way around a studio, which explains why he's able to turn his hand to a range of musical styles - as evidenced by this latest EP, which opens with summery disco-house near-instrumental 'Feel The Funk', shifts into vintage-style piano house on 'I Want You Baby', moves closer to nu-disco with 'Party At Section 8' and then, finally, floors us with the energetic, garage-tinged 'Energia Del Sol'. Good stuff.
Review: The Disco Express's 'Best of the B-Sides' compilations are based on a simple premise, namely showcasing remixes and bonus cuts from the catalogue that you may have missed. There are naturally gems aplenty to be found scattered across the compilation, from the infectious Latin-disco percussion, warming Rhodes riffs and deliciously soulful vocals of John Morales' remix of Magnolia & Elliot Chapman's 'Deep Inside My Soul', and the dubby tropical disco shuffle of Tigerbalm's remix of Cliff Colada's 'Souffle Monday', to Young Pulse's hybrid disco-boogie take on Barbara Tucker and Sam Carlson's 'Miracles', and the revivalist disco-funk-goes-house flex of Generoco's 'The Express'.
Review: The disco train pulls in with XPRESS Remixes Vol.4 - a compilation featuring four original potential future-classics. Leading with a retro-futuristic rework on "Give Me Your Love" is British DJ and remix expert Dave Lee (aka Joey Negro), infusing some modern flair into an old school gem. Moodena, head of Tropical Disco Records, follows suit with his equally credible remix of Giman & Chic_Ago's "The Job" - adding acid synths and licks of guitar for a fire disco mix. Michael Gray works his magic on "Be Yourself", transforming it into a bass-driven groover, while Russian DJ Scruscru concludes the compilation with a journey through jazz-infused house music in his remix of "Disco Jazzin" by Generoco.

Review: Berlin's Soundsmith returns to UK label The Disco Express, his regular home, with a brand new three-track/four-mix EP. Things kick off with the chunky, guitar-flecked nu-disco of 'New Energy' itself, after which he drafts in fellow label stalwart Bustin' Loose for the uptempo Italo vibes of 'San Remo'. Then we get the dense instrumental 'SX3000' with its blend of atmospheric sci-fi synths and choppy disco/funk guitar, before Sparkling Attitude's much more full-on and driving remix of the title track completes the package. Standout peaktime-friendly moments may be in short supply but all four will keep 'em moving for sure.
Review: The Disco Express label puts out quite a bit of music, so this round-up of 2022 label highlights is not only very welcome but all so an essential purchase. Art of Tones provides two of the highlights as the featured remixer: a rubbery, effortlessly funky, mid-tempo disco-house re-fix of Pete Maxey's 'Right On', and a looser, more organic and horn-heavy 'discoid' house tweak of Monsieur Von Pratt's 'The Power of Music'. Elsewhere across the EP, look out for the smoother, string-laden disco-house funk of HiFi Sean's re-wire of Bustin' Loose's 'Swift Lippin'; the bouncy, revivalist disco sweetness that is Aroop Roy's revision of Leslie Lello's 'Spirito Rivera' and the driving, sweat-soaked delights of the DAN:RO rework of Sparkling Attitude's 'Disco Delights', which boasts the twin treats of funky bass guitar and storming piano riffs.
