Review: While Mexico's electronic music scene is arguably getting more press coverage than ever before, little has yet been written about off-the-radar duo Dark Punk Hippies. They've been bubbling under for some time, releasing exspanive EPs and epic singles for Spa in Disco. Now they've joined Thunder Jam, offering up a suitably sizable package that backs their original version of "Janko's Drug" - a pleasingly loose and elastic fusion of flute-laden Balearic bliss, lo-fi bleeps, acid-influenced funk-rock and squeezable, boogie style nu-disco flavours - with no fewer than ten titanic reworks. These range from the warm, deep and woozy flex of Situation's drowsy nu-disco interpretation and Kellini's killer, revivalist synth-funk take, to the deliciously low-slung vibe of Planet Jumper's trippy dub disco revision.

Review: Recently, long-serving scalpel fiend Rayko has been sharing top billing with pal James Rod on the decidedly eccentric Classics of Arrikitaun series. This outing on Thunder Jam - the Spaniard's first for the label, according to our resident nu-disco nerd - sees him hog the limelight via a quartet of synth-heavy '80s soul, boogie and electrofunk reworks. He begins in confident fashion via the smooth, dewy-eyed vocals, heavy synth bass and jaunty keyboard solos of "Complication", before heading further towards Jam and Lewis territory on the electric guitar solo-laden bounce of "Build Me a Bridge". Elsewhere, "Fascination" provides Jheri curls, fretless bass and delay-laden vocals by the skip-load, while fine closer "Wanna" is a dreamy, saucer-eyed rearrangement of a familiar favourite from 1982.

Review: More from Saskin S, a Norway-based producer who is fast becoming one of Thunder Jam's most reliable artists. Long Time To End begins with with the sweet, soul-flecked "Avenger Force", a P-funk era electrofunk jam given a subtle, 21st century makeover, before this S-man reaches for the filters to give a funk-fuelled '80s soul jam a rolling, mid-set tweak on "Extra Special". Even better is the skewed funk-goes-house shuffle of "Greenshaker", where horn and woodwind solos provide an exotic focal point. Elsewhere, he serves up an "Extended Dub" of rolling disco-boogie-meets-italo-disco number "The Chaplin Rockers" and dips into harder electrofunk territory via the ricocheting drums, booming sub-bass and thickset synths of "The Key Tone".

Review: 'It's Go Time' has a cinematic vibe with orchestral strings along side the expected funky guitar, bright sparkling twinkles lighten the mood. 'Los Chicas' is a fun track with a shuffling shaker, which will have you shimmying with the best of 'em. Moving in to 'Shimitronix' and we've got a really fusion of modern electronic from the sci-fi samples to the subtlety detected jutting undertone.

Review: Leaping and slapping from globe to globe, cosmos to cosmos, Melbourne funkstronauts Planet Jumper touch down in Israel for four more rocket-fuelled show downs. The trip commences with the slow-burning, bass-slapping cosmic strutter "Outsider Music For The Forgotten" before bouncing off asteroids to the insanely funky "This Could Always Be The End Of Things". Further into the mission we cruise with the upbeat rush-fuelled "To Dream In Prosperity's Shadow" before coming back down to reality with serious squelch power on "Too True To Tell". Happy travels.

Review: Very talented Leeds man Andy Buchan was for quite a while one of the biggest DJs in Dubai. Since his return he has had some successful tracks on labels such as Rare Wire, Editorial and now Thunder Jam Records: an independent label for promoting disco, funk and nu-disco. Starting off with a super low slung edit of a certain '80s NYC disco classic in the form of "Delayed Rapture, we then get into some Balearic slo-mo house vibes on "Better Things To Come". On "Techno Logic" we get some Madchester style dance grooves happening until "Dylan's Groove" ends proceedings in real style with this pumpin' funky house party starter.

Review: Waking Disco regular Kellini is Thunder Jam's newest recruit. For his first outing on the prolific label, the Norwegian producer has delivered an impressive, seven-track selection that serves as a superb advert for his production and musicianship. There are no edits here, just original tracks laden with fuzzy electric bass, clipped guitars and thickset vintage synth sounds. There's naturally much to admire throughout, from the breezy, melodious and floor-friendly title track and low-slung disco-funk pressure of "Vekslepenger", to the thrilling synth boogie/house fusion of "Siste Forsok" and impressively tactile Scandolearic bubbler "Slapper Av". The latter may well be the EP's standout moment, though Italo-inspired closer "They Say" is almost as good.

Review: Thunder Jam's latest release is something of a sprawling epic; a 23-track "Invasion" featuring some of the hottest names in the re-edit and nu-disco scenes, alongside contributions from lesser-known talents. There's much to admire throughout, from the low-slung boogie bass and cut glass disco strings of Phil Da Burn's "Wallflower" and the spacey synth-funk of Funk Bank's wiggly "Jamming With The Thunder", to the bouncy disco/New Jersey garage fusion of BOI's "The Gift" and the straightened-out sunshine soul of Dee Bunk's "Little Brown Eye Girl". Throw in solid contributions from Don Dayglo, Belabouche, C Da Afro and Andy Buchan, and you've got a pleasingly varied set of floor-friendly excursions.

Review: The lads and lasses behind Thunder Jam were clearly impressed by Charlie Brown Superstar's re-edit outings on Alpaca Edits and Sound Exhibitions, as they've given the producer the chance to showcase an expansive selection of reworks. The six-track Keep On is quietly impressive, with the producer variously chopping up and rearranging peak-time disco anthems ("Keep On", the filter-heavy "Ain't No Way"), rolling disco-funk (the slipped, tooled-up beats and horn-toting hustle of "Please Don't Stop"), Stephanie Mills ("Got My Eyes On You", a loopy disco-house update of "What Cha Gonna Do With My Lovin"), The Jackson Sisters and killer space funk (the dub disco thrills of "Chicken Lickin").

Review: In 2016, Disco Funk Spinner and Goby both released impressive EPs on Thunder Jam. Here, the well-loved edit imprint has asked them to create fresh dancefloor gold out of the same source material, Starpoint's 1983 electrofunk/80s soul jam "It's All Yours". Disco Funk Spinner steps up first, looping up key vocal and instrumental passages from the Starpoint track. These, combined with some subtle new drums, give the re-edit a slightly more house-centric feel while retaining the synth-heavy swing of the '83 original. Goby's 'Dub Touch' is fully in keeping with original '80s electrofunk dubs, featuring as it does a killer mixture of chorus vocals and synth grooves.

Review: With What A Night, Nicko Edits man Nicko Marineli makes his first appearance on fast-rising nu-disco imprint Thunder Jam. He begins in confident mood with the heavy title track, a rolling, bass-heavy tool-up of a horn-heavy '70s disco workout. He doffs a cap to the undisputed King of Pop on sneaky "Disco Run", which fuses one of his most familiar '90s vocals with a beefed-up '80s electrofunk backing track, before getting merry with an early '80s AOR disco fave on "Jeop". Finally, the Athens-based producer goes disco-reggae via cheery, floor-friendly closer "Relaxing Mind". It's a typically chunky end to a solid collection of party-starting cuts.

Review: Grecian producer C Da Afro is notoriously prolific, delivering new reworks and edits on an almost weekly basis. The fact that he rarely puts a step wrong, despite this epic productivity, is particularly impressive. For further proof, check out the three nu-disco productions showcased on Don't Stop Groovin. There's something almost overwhelmingly positive about the cascading synthesizer melodies, tumbling lead lines, clipped guitars, and retro-futurist boogie grooves at the heart of "Unlimited Time", while "Don't Stop Groovin (Disco Dub)" melds the loopy, boogie-house funk of Tiger & Woods with the thrusting, disco-house hustle of vintage "French Touch" material. Further peak-time sweatiness is also supplied in the shape of "DiScO Sex", a raunchy disco-house stomper laden with twittering flute solos.
