Time Is Now (UK)

As Bristol’s music scene continues to pioneer new sounds and styles across the world of music, the labels that house those sounds must be celebrated. When it comes to innovation, there aren’t many places with it in more of an abundance than Time Is Now (UK), a fantastic sub-label of the Shall Not Fade imprint. Since launching with two releases in April of 2020, they have been on a fantastic streak, welcoming artists such as Wilfy D, Soul Mass Transit System D Jason, Baby J, Interplanetary Criminal and more to showcase their unique approach to garage music. The experimental side of UKG can safely be described as their speciality zone, with their releases continuing to grow in popularity and allowing the Shall Not Fade team access to an outlet for the more “outside the box” styles of production they receive. The quality levels have continued to rise since the labels inception and we can’t see that pattern changing any time spoon.

Review: As always, the Time Is Now banner is riding high with this top quality six track collection from Nitework providing all the energy a dancefloor needs. We open up with the old school vocal & chord combinations of 'Desire', before the choppy vocal melodic grooves of 'Be There' and colliding percussive underbellies of 'This Ain't Love' take the lead role. Next, a more stripped back outing as 'Lose Control' gives us a moogy drift of a bassline to play with, with the glittering synth work of 'All Night' then arriving for an additional punch of nostalgia. Finally, 'Falling' gives us a killer closer, rounding off this top quality collection with more vocal chopping magic.

Review: The legendary Jeremy Sylvester is back in fine form with this fiery display, unloading four dancefloor-ready rollers with some real throwback feelings, courtesy of course of Time Is Now. We open up with the nostalgic chord progressions and heavily reverberated soundscapes of '90's Man', which sets the tone perfectly, followed by 'Flashback', a sleeklike roller doused in electronic energy. From here 'In The Morning' arrives to unleash a more subtle bubbling feeling, focussing on moogy basslines and refreshing pad arrangements, before the heavily sampled vocal chops and icey synth sweeps of 'Wickedest Sound' close off the EP with a bang

Review: The Time Is Now train continues to roll from station to station, with their latest drop coming from legendary Bristol native: Daffy, a long-standing heavyweight in the UKG space, who blesses us with four scintillating original groovers. We open up with the smooth melodic drifts and sharpened drum crunches of 'Organs For Spring', a real party starter, before 'Save My Soul' amps up the subs for a gnarly 4x4 stomp. Next up, we hear elements of breaks, old school garage and soulful house all fuse as 'Holding On 4 U' gives us another hard hitting bop, before the more syncopated sounds of the title track 'Like This Like That' give us a wavy closer. Top work indeed!

Review: It's a rarity that the Time Is Now crew fail to impress us here at JunoDownload, with this vibrant new 3 track collection, welcoming the combined flavours of Nitework, Ell Murphy & Medlar. We open up with the smooth vocal displays and sliding backdrops of 'Lose Control', which through its silky textures and groovy bass designs sets the pace perfectly. From here, the jittering synth leads and sumptuous sub-designs of 'All Night' then roll into play, again upping the energy levels, before the more bubbly chord progressions and stripped back drum production of 'Falling' takes in one final new direction. This gorgeous collection showcases just how strong this power-coupling is, with 'Nobody Else But U' leading the way in a wash of silky subs and groovy vocal chops. From here, 'Break Ur Heart' continues to have a high energy feel, with more rampant 4x4 energy running wild, followed by 'Cookin Up Yer Brain' for another sumptuous dose of old school energy. We then close off proceedings with 'Stand By Me' venturing into the realms of jungle, amalgamating choppy breaks and booming 808s for a vibrant finale.

Review: Shall Not Fade sister imprint Time Is Now continues its white label series with Omerta Records' Artificial Red who delivers four beautiful and authentic foundation deep jungle style cuts. Following recent dispatches on the likes of 3AM Eternal and Lore, the young Bristolian gets his jazzy cosmic freak on once again; the Orbital-meets-Justice pads and punches of 'Seperation' and the deep dream Omni Trio flurries and vapour trails of 'This Time' are too particularly stunning highlights, but the whole EP is sublime.

Review: Whenever we see a new entry from the Time Is Now crew, we know it's time to pull on our dancing shoes and turn up the energy, with this latest three track collection from DJ Crisps being a seriously spicy box of rave-inspired goodness. We open up with 'You Stay On My Mind', a vocal-infused sweep through big room drum work and airy pads in the background, culminating in a 2-step slammer to turn the dance into a zoo. On the flip to this, we then get to explore 'Never Gonna Stop', a chord driven slink through American vocal slices and smooth sublines, with the abstract sine-wave pulses of 'Flat Bass' then taking the EP down a more industrial route. For its crunchy finale, the project then rounds off with the tidy percussive skips and distant reverberations of 'Critical Theory' as the Time Is Now crew continue to cook.

We open up with the energy drum twists and sizzling reesey low ends of 'Ras', a title track that packs one hell of an introductory punch. We then dive into 'Give It To You', a much more breaks-driven design, alternating between belching bassy drones and skippy drum textures, for a beautiful fusion of old school euphoria and new school precision. We begin with the title track 'Naturally', a smokey combination of sharpened drum processing and breathy percussive pulses, with 'Love Is Gone' then providing a groovy follow up, tied together with glistening chord progressions and clucky percussion below. Review: As undeniably one of the the biggest breakouts within garage and breaks across 2022, we are thrilled to see Interplanetary Criminal making one last splash before rounding the year out, giving the Time Is Now crew a super Christmas present to unveil. First up, 'Gangster Time' sees a raucous combination of dizzying drum stutters and hard hitting bass notation become the backdrop for a highly energetic verse from Killa P, followed by the warbling LFO movements and more stripped back drum structures of 'MC Tip' alongside Main Phase. From here, 'Beat Work' takes things old school as scrappy percussive processing and lofi reesey basslines drive us forward, with the colourful rhythmic arrangements and hard hitting kick combos of 'Coming On Strong' then seeing us out in style. Review: As one of the standout acts across garage and breaks for 2022, the enigmatic duo that is Cortese look to continue their high level of momentum, landing on Time Is Now for a fiery five track episode. First up, 'Wrong Train' unleashes one of the most beautifully crafted fusions we have heard in a hot minute, as warm subs and euphoric arpeggios lead the way, before 'SPU1' explores an event more introspective design with more fluttering synthetics giving us a tasty meal to enjoy. From here, the floaty atmospherics and more pulsating 4x4 drum designs of 'In Transit' are then giving leave to run riot across the middle EP, followed up nicely by the almost aquatic sound delays and synthetics of 'Regulate', giving us such a wide range of influences to explore. The EP has an old school feel from the jump, opening up with steadily bubbling twists and grooves of 'Fluffs', incorporating vibrant vocal chops and tidily arranged drum designs. Review: With a serious history in the UK underground, it's exciting to see the legendary DJ Pantha touching down on Time Is Now for an exploration into his own back catalogue as we take in 'The 140 Archives'. We begin with the chirping violin sweeps and lively LFO triplets of 'Hurry The Fuck Up', a proper throwback original, before the more uncooth synthetic madness of 'Duddley Riddim' is then unleashed to up the energy levels rapidly. From here, 'Vibez' takes us down a different direction as crunchy tripletted drum rhythms play a lead role atop eerie string sets throughout, before more wobbly abandon arrives in the form of 'Blackberry Riddim'. We then take in the sweeping synthesiser melodies and alarm-ridden backdrops of 'Protein Shake', taking us right back to the early days of grime & bassline fusion, before an experimental send off in 'Four By Niche' sees the project draw to a close. This is a project for the ages for sure!

This time Frankel & Harper are in the driving seat, with the pitch riding breaksy overlays and gritty bass action of 'Buffalo Skank' kicking us off. Next, the pressure increases as the dizzying synth warbles and 2-stepping drum lines of 'Oblivion' roll into view, closely followed by the more euphoric soundscaping and spacey pad arrangements of 'Taz &', again layered above some highly energetic breaks work of course. He returns to Time Is Now for the latest in their 'White' series, opening up with the patois vocal displays and nostalgic bassline manoeuvres of 'Higher' arriving in style. Review: What a fabulous box of treats we have on display here as we see numerous different garage heavyweights make their way back to Time Is Now for the fourth edition of their 'Time Is Now Allstars' collection. First up, Soul Mass Transit System touch down with their first of two appearances, welcoming Sage Introspekt along for the ride with a thumping roller named 'Sexy Thing', before Yemi delivers an unexpected jungle-driven twissup on 'Run Sound'. Next up, Soul Mass return, this time alongside the legendary Killa P for funk infused masterclass on 'Blocked', something very different indeed. From here, Daffy delivers a serious system weapon on the breaksy throws of 'Check 1', next to Groovy D's more old school influenced 'Don'tCareBoutMe'. Finally, Stones Taro unleashes a fabulous display of moogy magnificence on 'Rise Up', giving us one final touch of brilliance before closing off.

Review: The pace at which Time Is Now have been able to amass this fantastic roster of artists is definitely not to be sniffed at, with Y U QT joining the ranks for another powerful four track display. First up, a colourful combination of chiming melodic drifts and nostalgic vocal prowess are made very apparent on 'Fantasy' alongside the wonderful Ell Murphy, with the dazzling harmonic struts of 'Buss Down' then giving us another jumpy addition, focussing on booming drum rolls and a big bassline to match. Next, some more masterful vocal chopping is on display as 'Leaving All Your Cares Behind' gives us another euphoric adventure, focussing on bright chord-driven keys and subtle horn toots, before 'Just Be Friends' gives us a shuffling slice of goodness to close things out. Review: The Time Is Now rampage continues to roll as their hectic release schedule thickens even further, this time welcoming the sounds of Dominus (UK) to the table, delivering five bubbling originals. We open up with the hard hitting drum stutters and floaty backdrops of 'Psycho Blud', which goes on to descend into a seriously sub-heavy piece of weaponry, sampling a classic like from 'Kidulthood' in the process, next to the chiming percussion and constantly shifting atmospheric pressures of 'On Fire'. From here, the intensity heightens once again with 'Sultan' giving us another rave-ready rumbler, focussing on shuffling shakers and warbling bass tones, next to the chomping rhythms and wacky LFO textures of 'Sweet Enough'. Finally, Dayne Harper arrives to give 'Psycho Blud' a more dance-driven overhaul, putting the final touches on a very enjoyable collection.

Review: It's a rarity that we don't see a new Time Is Now drop in our weekly excursions these days, as they this time welcome the sounds of Holloway inside to explore some seriously cool, futuristic sonic design. We open up with the stumbling drum rhythms and dreamy organ chords of 'Into The 00's', giving us a shimmering introduction jammed-full of character. From here, a more raucous tone emerges as the grizzly sub energy of 'Destiny' arrives with a slap, followed by the old school speed-garage sounding bass rolls of 'Ode To Shakeys', again upping the intensity. Finally, the nostalgic, post-jungle drones of 'Hypnotiq' are let loose to close out the EP, giving us some high energy throwback flavour. Lovely work.

Review: The tide of Time Is Now continues to roll in as they once again deliver a tidy collection of originals, welcoming Peaky Beats inside for a selection of four original garage rollers. We open up with 'Road Runner', utilizing old school chord progressions and sine-wave driven bass instrumentation for a bubbling introductory outing, followed closely by the more shuffling percussion and dizzying organ taps of 'Cats From The Back'. From here, the intensity amplifies significantly as the raucous breaksy overlays and warping bassline action of 'XL' then arrive with instant impact, before Yosh arrives to deliver a cooling remix display as 'Road Runner' is given an even more blippy rethink, rounding off the project in style.

Review: What an exciting link up we have here as the veteran sounds of Daffy and the explosive styles of PJ Bridger join forces for yet another fabulous addition to the Time Is Now catalogue. Opening up the selection, 'We Come Dere' works wonders as a haunted, distant 2-step homage to original broken-beat flavours, followed closely by more moody energy as 'Way Back When' focusses more-so on bulbous LFO crunches and intense shaker-lead drum stutters. The pair then dive into a move breaks-driven design as 'Dutty' provides us with another dubwise-infused room shaker, before jumping into the remixes. First up, Bakey steps up for an intricate, 808-centred rethink of 'Way Back When', deploying colourful organ chords and more of original dubwise FX, before Ollie Rant gives 'Way Back When' a much more dancefloor orientated overhaul, focussing on skippy chord progressions and soulful vocal samples, giving us a couple of very exciting alternate versions to close things off.

Review: What a collection we have here as the ever-rampaging Time Is Now Machine unleash the third edition of their 'Allstars' compilation project, featuring six heavyweight originals from some of the most creative dancefloor names about. Y U QT kicks us off with a 2-step masterclass, alternating between shimmering chord stabs and dippy LFO basslines, with the glittering atmospherics and distant vocal lines of 'Regatta' from Cortese and straight 4x4 moogy pulses of Prozak's 'Next To You' in close pursuit. Review: With the current run of releases we are seeing from Time Is Now, it's safe to say they have had possibly the brightest start to the year of any UK label, with this latest four-track collection from Yosh being another great example of why that is. We open up with the shuffling breaksy slices and warbling synthetic shimmers of 'New Dawn', which sets the tone nicely with some high-octane arrangement techniques. This is then followed by 'Modulate', which allows its synthesiser backdrop to do exactly what is says on the tin, topped with more groovy breaks-driven flavour, before 'Snapback' delivers a broken-beat epic, focussing in heavy LFO drones and shuffling 2-step backdrop. Finally, the minimal yet progressive displays of 'Track 1' give us a fiery outro, rounding off another solid drop from both Yosh & the Time Is Now team.

Review: We don't know how they keep doing it, but the Time Is Now crew are quite easily one of the most impressive imprints in the UK right now, with this latest five tracker from Arfa being the latest in a long run of instant classics this year. First up 'Run It Back' delivers a sub-heavy garage experience, focussing on moody background strings and intricate drum shuffles, before 'Adapted' takes it even more old school with a bag of moogy drum pulses and more of those tasty drum maneuvers. From here, 'Ain't Ready' allows the drum designs to continue to impress, focussing on minimal melodics and subtle synth basses, before 'Real Badman' adds a dash of old school chord progression into the mix for a seriously groovy addition. Finally, Bakey gives 'Real Badman' a final look over with a much more sublow inspired rethink, giving the EP one final tick box filled from us. Amazing work!

We see them welcome the enigmatic DJ Crisps this time around for a four track wash, kicking off with the vibrant rolls of 'Keep It Up' throwing us right back to the dancefloors of the 90's with its bulbous bassline energy. Next, the skippy intricacies of 'Alright' are unveiled, focussing on pulsating synth stabs and glitchy bass energy belo, before the cool, sine-wave driven melodies and groovy vocals of 'Today' up the pacing once again. Review: It's always a good time when we explore a new Time Is Now drop, who continue their reign of pure power in 2022 with this fabulously vibrant 5-track collection from Stones Taro. Kicking off we launch with 'Integration', a low-ended warbler, focussing on moogy bass tones and popping percussive taps, followed by the acidic pulses and rave-like arpeggios of 'Straight Walk'. From here the shuffling shakers and throwback organ chord stabs of 'Watching You' waft into view, before the much more high energy moogy bass stabs of 'Super Hot Floor' leap around on top of seriously crunchy drum sounds for good measure. Finally, 'Dry Flower' gives us some smooth, chord driven textures to round off the EP, which definitely sits as one of Time Is Now's stronger drops so far this year.

Review: Time Is Now White has been one of the most exciting sub-label imprints to keep an eye on in 2022 so far, with seemingly a release a week from some of the most exciting names in UKG. Yemi kicks off his latest appearance with two collaborations with Bria, firstly on the day-party sounding arrangements of 'Never Let You Go', doused in smooth chord progressions and clicking percussion. She then arrives again on the horn-driven sweeps of 'Smooth Talkin', which comes complete with its bubbling instrumental version as well. From here, the more blippy sounds of 'My Heart' wade into view, focussing on a slower tempo of garage roller, but being nonetheless potent for it. To round off, 'Soul Food' delivers another bubbling display of modernized garage flavour with vocal chops working some serious magic throughout, before 'Tension' sees us out with an airy masterclass of vocal sampling and synthetic joy. Lovely work.
