Review: Jayl Funk has been turning out the party-starting funk grooves for well over a decade now and this latest pair, brought to you by Timewarp Music, won't disappoint fans of his previous work one iota. 'You Gotta Feel It' opens with a rave-y warping synth riff, then brings in pianos and female vocal wails before finally bursting out in all its funk-fuelled nu-disco glory. The pop-style vox might be a bit much for some but there's no doubting the bassline or the horns work... so it's just as well there's also an instrumental included, isn't it? 'Step Into It' features the same vocalist but is a little more laidback in feel.

Review: Packing, essentially, two mixes that are each presented in vocal and instrumental forms, it's a case of "you pays your money and you makes your choice" with this one. In its original form, 'Popping The Clutch' is a funk-hop affair, with a rap courtesy of one Jonie D, that calls to mind the work of Bristolian scene faves The Allergies - or possibly, if you're a little older, all those early 90s 'Guru's Jazzmatazz' albums. Alternatively you can head for the remixes from Greek producer Angelos Stoumpos AKA Timewarp Inc, who gives the track a festival-friendly, reggae-fied makeover. Like we said, you pays your money...

Review: Funkin Basstards make a high profile return with this fantastically groovy two track bonanza entitled 'People Under The Snare'. The title track is a super smooth tribute to funk, complete with a soulful vocal presence and additional features from Kid Stretch & Selectah Kats. On the flip side we treated to an organ-infused summer roller which goes by the name of 'Chick Sick'. These two are a must for any BBQ playlist you have lined up.

Review: Greece's Quincy Jointz selects the sixth volume of his concept Lime Sorbet compilation. Lime Sorbet was always the compilation series for open minded music fans and so is also volume six. From sunshine vibes, funky grooves and breakbeat through to house or downbeat. Once again Quincy selects a special mixture of unreleased music by well-known and upcoming artists. Block rockin' beats courtesy of Valique with "Long Journey" (Quincy Jointz remix) will sort you for deep funk, cheeky crooner Louie Austen is back since the electroclash days with the sleazy soul of of "Make You Move" (Quincy Jointz remix) and Stuttgart's Tobe Tronic serves up the deep, breaks driven nu-disco of "Night Drums".

Review: Although he's enjoyed covert missions for other labels like Royal Soul and Kraak, Stephane "Leon" Voituret can usually be found on Greece's mighty Timewarp label. Here he returns to the label he calls home with a vaguely James Bond-ish themed long player. There seven new tunes, should you wish to accept them, and don't worry - they won't self-destruct after you've played them. Oh no -they'll just keep delivering the disco action. Highlights include the ravey 60s psyche-out of the title track, the Austin Powers meets Man From UNCLE riff-ola of "Get On The Boat" and the bhangra-meets-garage-rock of "Sexy Toy".

Review: Greece's Timewarp drops the second installment of the Jointz Venture remix series, and my word have they done things right! It's a beautiful bundle of funk, breaks and party tools, all geared up for heavy club use; starting with Tom Drummond's electro/broken beat hybrid remix of "Blast", it goes all the way through to JazzKlipa's remix of "Bodyline" - a straight electrohouse chaser with a hint of boogie - via Aenea's sultry deep house vibe on "Get Down" and a few other surprises. Highly recommended...

Review: It's been a while since we heard from Danny Ward, at least under his Dubble D alias (he's better known for his house productions under the Moodymanc moniker). "Thud" is a pleasing blast from the past - a rolling, dancefloor-friendly workout that matches snappy, MPC-programmed hip-hop beats with warm Rhodes codas, subtle whispers of jazz flute and carefully-chosen vocal samples. The remixes are tasty, too, with EZ Icarus recruiting MC J Conroy for an uptempo party-rocking workout, Tosses & Verdez dropping some tasteful breaks, and Widosub turning the original into a warm, jazzy, broken beat number.

Review: The Worldstylers (a brand new act from Savages Y Suefo) deliver two absolute party-jammers. Exploring the creative potential of blues and electronic fusion, both "Put It Right Here" and "Gimme One More" are riddled with rich vocals, heaving harmonicas and big swinging bass. The former is the stomper of the pair with a jacking, 4/4 stomp while the latter takes the nu-funk route with swinging breakbeats and a cool-but-confident groove. Both absolutely smash it. Throw in myriad remixes from the likes of Ordiman (filtered funky house) and Niles Philips (Thievery Corporation style slinky silk) and this really is a special package.

Review: The term 'liquid gold' has been many things, including the name of a '70s disco act and a type of head-rushing party poppers. Now, it's also an album by funky hip-hop and Afro-Cuban US artist AfroQBen (see what he did there?). The album actually came out last year and now Timewarp have decided that it deserves the remix treatment. The reggae, funk, Latin and soul vibes of the original are tweaked in a number of interesting ways, in particular the electro/reggaeton hybrid of Qdup Foundation's mix, Father Funk's electro-boogie-isms and Drumspyder's Bollywood beats.

Review: On previous outings, SR De Funk has joined forces with the brilliantly named Quincy Jointz. Here he goes solo, offering a clavinet-heavy chunk of toe-tapping breakbeat that somehow manages to fuse vocals pinched from Inner City's "Good Love" with a clavinet-heavy groove laden with live instrumentation. The aforementioned Quincy Jointz delivers an off-kilter remix that turns the jumpy original into a flamenco-meets-acid house head-nodder, while Jayl Funk provides the obligatory wobbly bassline breaks re-cut. There's also an excellent jazz-breaks rework by Los Cuanos Del Funk that re-casts the original as a loose-limbed chunk of Rhodes-heavy broken beat. A pleasingly diverse package.

Review: Weighing in at a whopping 28 tracks, this follow up to Timewarp's hip-wigglingly funky debut compilation will take about four years to digest - as long as the follow up took to arrive. From bongo boogie-woogie ("Elpuma" - Afternoons In Stereo) and jazz-flavoured sunshine house (Trotter - "At The Pool") to low-swung sleazy breakbeat funk (Timewarp Inc - "Start With An A") and woozy Latin wig-outs (Auditors Domination - "Rempeto") this hefty party compendium more than makes up for the wait.

Review: From Hungarian collective The MustBeat Crew comes this new release on Timewarp: the mid-tempo, body-popping funk of "The Feedback". Bolstered by percussive guitar loops, scratches and huge shimmering chords, it's a delightful tune that sits nicely between the nu-disco and instrumental hip-hop racks. On a more breaks tip, Niles Phillips adds a bucket load of bass to his mix, while the Gemini Brothers get fresh on their Rhodes-heavy nu-funk workout.

Review: A new journey around German producer Quincy Jointz's Praia De Geriba album, with five new producers tasked with building on QJ's own brand of nu-funk breaks. Audio InFunktion remakes "Chicago" as a mean and menacing breakbeat wobbler, while "Hottie Party" is reduced brutally on Curv's mix to a set of brooding strings and 70s funk horns. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Gunta Kinte's treatment of "6 Million Ways To Swim" is a fast, frenetic and fun mix of 150bpm beats and jazz guitar that - weirdly - works wonderfully well. Fellow German nu-funk phenomena Jayl Funk also drops a more party-friendly take on "Chicago" - using chanking guitars and classic disco bass to drive it along nicely.

With plenty of different versions of "Rumbak" to choose from, there's something here for fans of house, reggaeton, reggae and straight up Balkan funk. Our personal favourite though is Max & Gabb's extended version - a mid-tempo mix of grimey kicks, booty bass and gypsy guitars that's subtly done, yet won't fail to punch home on a dancefloor. For a more gypsy-swing vibe, check out the pair's remix of "Gipsyland" which is also included on the release.

Review: Quincy Jointz funky debut album, Praia De Geriba has gone on to receive huge acclaim ever since its release on Greek label, Timewarp in May last year. Indeed it was such a success that the Greek electronic funk specialists decided to release a remix package of therelease. In turn, that was such a success that there is now a second volume of remixes of the album. Seven different remixers offer their own unique interpretations of the tracks that made the original album such a hit in a collection that spans house, nufunk and dubstep.

Opening with all the playful and uplifting feel of an original Quincy Jointz track is Hamburg's rising nufunk producer Funktomas who serves up a funky and skanking remix of "Trippin." Merging big beats, ska and funk, the German adds his own vibe to the track in the genre bending traditions of the label. Flashbaxx are up next with their remix of "The Place." A slick and groovy slice of house mixed with nu-disco, this is one of the more commercial, conventional tracks on the album. Onur Engin follows with his own nufunk remix of "The Place." The Turkish producer uses e-guitars, uplifting horns and some catchy saxophone hooks to create his electro slasher. Da Wiesel takes on the Brazilian hip-hop of "Super Hero" before Spaniard, Calagad 13 unleashes his 80s infused remix of "Hottie Party." "La Dub Musica" gets two dub treatments to close off the album. JazzKLippa's is a skanking, reggae styled piece of dubstep whereas High Fidelity goes grimier dubstep with dark, wobbling basslines.

This is an album that captures the spirit of the original album but crosses varying genres and styles whilst doing so. Totally fitting for a remix package for both Timewarp as a label and Quincy Jointz as an artist, this is a fun and exciting ride.
