Review: Top Billin be on the lowdown with a big 10 years compilation bringing new tracks and constructions from crewdem like Fil Jackon and the bassline number "Walk Like A Boss" or Carpainter's deep house future classic "Octopolis". Tony Goods hits the sweet spot with the sensual synth stabs and post-2step and dubstep rhythms in his "Pick It Up", while there are splashes of dubby house and atmospheric techno to be found in "Girl With A Ball" ala Meri (ROTD), and don't miss out on the poptronica of Real Tears "Brightwall Temple". Top Billin': 10 years of sensational euphoria and breaking beats!
Review: For this very exciting six track selection, the team at Top Billin have arranged a tight collection of the weird and undefinable, yet somehow manage to release a cohesive body of work at the same time. Firstly, the booming bass drums, choppy breaks and subby leads of TRDV's 'Deadlines' take the lead, followed by a funky garage fusion by the name of 'Submarine's from Murder He Wrote. Next up, we move further into the stripped back garage themes as Tony Quatro unleashes the lethal subs of 'September' before the bouncy carnival drum work of Pl4net Dust's 'Daebak' is let loose. The flavours then take another unexpected turn as a Rodigan vocal sample gives way to a moody breaks driven original from Garneau entitled 'WH1', before funky feels of Niklavz round everything up smartly in 'Soundboy Notifications'.
Review: Self described as the modest European club kings of 2018, Top Billin Music is one of Finland's leading independent club music labels, with music styles covering the whole spectrum of bass music. Founded in 2006 and with artists from each continent, the Helsinki based label run by Shark E and Fliprr continuously pushes the boundaries of forward-thinking club music. Here they present the mysterious TRDV with some early UK breakbeat/hardcore derivatives as heard on "Dues Paid", some wonky street level grime shenanigans on "Time's Right" and even a bit of deep dubstep on the nefarious and bombastic "Game Overz".
Review: Newcomer DJ Dats debuts on Top Billin with some marvelous house infusions that go beyond the typical 4/4 framework to land on majestic and unexplored terrains. "Allowance Trax", for example, merges all the best elements of house, techno, acid ad, yes, balearica - while "Spirit Of Da Hauz" transforms a banging Chicago house groove into a synth-heavy daydream fuelled by wholesome bass and rhythm. "Wants To Feel" is the absolute analogue cure, stepping up with another fine injection of 303-laden melodies that just seem to fit ever so well with the dreamier, more spacey side of synth-house. Bangers!
Review: If it's footwork and hard-ass house you're after, then Maddjazz will surely knock your teeth out with this latest bunch of absolute killers on the dutty Top Billin imprint! The dude's back with some proper fire, kicking off with the raved-out bleeps and digi sounds of "Back To Basics", followed by some nasty, true-school 303 acid that is sounding PHAT on our speakers! "Lose Your Mind" strips it back to a more industrial slew of melodies, while "Time 2 Go To Work" slaps down some cold-ass techno beats for the warehouse spots. BIG TIP!
Review: Emergent bass wizards Juakali and Secret Angel Gel are up on the smokin' Top Billin with a new scorcher, the aptly coined "Rule The Night". Bursting through with a devious slew of Jamaican-minded vocals, it's a classic steppers bass tune to raise the levels on the dancehall and cause a likkle bit a fury. There's a remix from Nobel, who strips things down and works the percussion and kicks in deeper to form more of a 4/4 groove, and a dub, washed-out version from ErrorrE - perhaps the tune of the EP, and one that is certainly aimed at the corner dwellers..
