Review: Deep & Dope Records' founder Dan Smith has released tons of music on TRAX as Late Nite 'Dub' Addict, with his most recent EP - last month's 'Acid Trip 303' - offering a killer collection of Chicago style jack-tracks. On 'Ups & Downs', Smith opts for a similarly raw and to-the-point approach, albeit while drawing on sounds and grooves more associated with deep house. There's plenty to set the pulse racing across the five tracks on offer, from the undulating bass, redlined drums and dreamy chords of 'Ups & Downs', and the early morning bounce of 'Pure Emotions', to the gently bleeping warm-house shuffle of 'Fizzy Dizzy' and the subtly electro-influenced deep house nostalgia of 'Get Freaky'.
