Review: Following a recent collab with DJ Funk on Dirty Bird the Gettoblaster duo outta Chicago & Detroit team up with windy cindy legend DJ Deeon for a single and remixes that enters itself into the stadium realm. "The 302" hinges itself on a staccato synth line that laughs in the face of the EDM idiosyncrasies this EP touches on. Big room reworks come from all three remixers giving their own warehouse vibe to a straight up 909 workout. Paul Johnson liquifies the elements in his mix while DJ Haus adds a new melody to a hugely explorative and reimaginative mix. Leaving wild card entry Patrick Topping to turn in a trance-out slice of vocal booty house.
Review: Next up on Patrick Topping's Trick label is the debut of Edible main man Eats Everything, who serves up a tribute to a short lived but golden era on the Return To Hardbag EP, featuring New York City-based performer Frankco Harris on vocals. 'Hardbag' itself was a genre of dance music that evolved out of the early 1990s in the UK house music scene. The arrangement on "Bobby & Ken" complete with a hammering donk bassline with speed garage rhythms is the perfect accompaniment to Harris' eccentric vocal delivery, which takes on even more attitude on the next track (the ballroom influenced "Coming For You") and ending with the powerful stomp of "Wallop" (Better Than The Rest) that's perfect for those heads down moments.
Review: Having released on Alan Fitzpatrick's We Are The Brave, Eli Brown now turns his attention to this three-tracker for Trick. The title track revolves around pounding, concrete weight kicks, which provide the basis for looped rave stabs and deft, filtered builds. "Welcome to My House" sees Brown take inspiration from grainy Berghain techno, as menacing chords and a ponderous vocal sample swoop in over a booming rhythm and razor-sharp percussive licks. "Don't Think Much" is different again: powered by a pulsating groove and a gurgling acid line, it also features a series of snare-led crescendos and a mesmerising vocal contribution from Talk Show that will push the track to a mainstream audience.
