Give My Love
Give My Love (main mix) - (5:59) 120 BPM
Give My Love (DJ Spen rework) - (7:16) 120 BPM
Give My Love (L'Amour Disco remix) - (6:15) 115 BPM Hot
Review: London-based newcomers In Dat Groove describe themselves as "a jazz/lounge project" and here they make their debut on DJ Spen's Unquantize label with a track produced in collaboration with Boston-based vocalist Lee Wilson. In its Original form, 'Give My Love' is essentially an R&B cut, though it'd play equally well on many soulful house and broken beat floors. The label boss's refix adds a rock-solid 4/4 kick and pushes the track more decisively into soulful house territory, but for this writer it's L'Amour Disco's rerub that takes the gold, as the mysterious UK producer reworks 'Give My Love' into an 80s boogie groover.

Review: Amongst connoisseurs of soulful deep house, Namy (AKA Japanese producer Yutaka Takanami) is highly regarded. Given that he's delivered a string of singles on leading New York label King Street Sounds - a bastion of the soulful sound since the '90s - that's hardly surprising. "Colors Of The Universe" is his first outing on Unquantize, and sees him wrapping jaunty piano riffs, sweeping synth-strings and puncy horn lines on top of the kind of bouncy, funk-fuelled rhythm track that recalls the halcyon days of soulful New York house. Thrillingly, legendary Basement Boys man DJ Spen provides the remixes, delivering a sax solo-laden rework and a "Multi-Colored Remix" that doffs a cap to electrofunk whilst retaining Namy's pleasingly bustling, snare-heavy beats.

Review: Growing up in Napoli areound the golden years of the city's nightlife, Lexa Hill is said to have been swayed by the rhythms of Chicago and New York. His classic house jam "Da Hood" utilises hands in thr air piano rolls, hip-hop style sampling and swing fuelled rhythms that are all in perfect harmony and also receives some killer remixes. Firstly by Dutchman Man Without A Clue (more like Man Of The Moment!) fresh off killer releases on DFTD and Of Unsound Mind who serves up a dirty and sexy late night rendition while Soulphonix aka DJ Spen, Greg Lewis and Thomas Davis serve up a proper stateside remix just beaming with soul on their killer effort.

Review: Grown men of a certain age will be very confused by this new release from house heroes Todd Terry and DJ Spen, as they tackle '70s classic "Stone Fox Chase", better known as the theme to BBC music show The Old Grey Whistle Test. The famous harmonica riff is present and correct as is most of the original with just some subtle beefing up going on. Terry's own mix adds some seriously slammin' jack master beats to the equation though, whilst other highlights include Damond Ramsey's techy excursion and Mannoo's swampy beat-fest.
