V Recordings

Few record labels can claim to have changed the face of their respective scene. However, V Recordings, started in 1993 by Bryan Gee and Jumping Jack Frost, can confidently say that they have done just that. Never swayed by fashions, fads and sub-genre divisions, V Recordings has been a benchmark for quality since the very beginning, and have bought through artists such as Roni Size, Krust, Die, Dillinja, and most recently L-Side, Alibi and Sl8r.

30 Years Of V - EP 3
Voltage - "Lion Of Judah" - (3:45) 175 BPM Hot
Cloud Lord - "Ghost Train" - (5:11) 174 BPM
L-Side & Command Strange - "Angry Tune" - (3:51) 175 BPM

Review: Hold tight Bryan Gee and the family. Now rolling 30 years deep! Naturally they're releasing some absolutely exceptional music to celebrate. Next up in this epic three decade gully marathon are three utter tear-ups. Voltage goes old testament on the jungle slap-about 'Lion Of Judah', Krust and Need For Mirrors' Cloud Lord go ultra trippy and cosmic on 'Ghost Train' while Command Strange and L-Side get pure filthy on 'Angry Tune'. Many happy returns V!

30 Years Of V - EP 2
Krust - "Not Necessarily A Man" (L-Side VIP) - (4:35) 174 BPM
Alibi & A-Audio - "Middlemen" - (5:12) 175 BPM Hot
Level 2 - "Bite The Bone VIP" - (4:36) 170 BPM
Review: V is for victory! Bryan Gee and Jumpin Jack Frost's label continues to mark three whole decades with the second volume of their 30 Years VA. First up is a VIP of L-Side's already flattening remix of Krust's 'Not Necessarily A Man' before Alibi and A-Audio go toe-to-toe on the soulful bruiser 'Middlemen' where a big funk sample gets battered into submission but an equally stunning Reese. Last but not least Level 2 closes the EP down with another VIP treat - 'Bite The Bone'. Woof woof!

30 Years Of V - EP 1
Dillinja - "Grimey" (Need For Mirrors remix) - (5:15) 172 BPM Hot
Urbandawn & Alibi - "Misfit" - (4:37) 174 BPM
Think Tonk - "Tom & Heavy VIP" - (4:17) 175 BPM
Review: Woi to the oi. Bryan Gee's mighty V is now 30 years old! Chances are they're older than you... And way gullier too. Just listen to these first three anniversary cuts. Need For Mirrors takes a cult Dillinja jam and modernises it in a stylised, contemporary way that only he knows how. Urbandawn and Alibi whip up one of the most outrageous tear-ups we've heard this century and Think Tonk takes his 2020 banger Tom & Heavy to brave new ravey pastures. What an EP, what a way to kick off 30 years of beats! Original pioneer material.

Strange Justice EP
Losing Streak - (5:58) 174 BPM Hot
Strange Justice - (4:57) 174 BPM
Cause For Alarm - (5:17) 174 BPM
Sl8r & Freddy B - "Switchin' It Up" - (4:05) 174 BPM
Review: Sl8r continues to don the hell out of vibes game with this killer new collection on V. Four tracks, four reminders that dnb is in safe hands despite the major commercial activity vulturing the culture right now. From the Moving Fusion style bassline treacle of 'Losing Streak' to the final closing harmonies of MC-du-jour Freddy V on 'Switching It Up', there's no fat whatsoever on here, just pure lean full-contrast drum & bass. In between we have the political grunt and thrust on the title track and plenty of hypey tension on 'Cause For Alarm'. Justice for all!

Control
Control (vocal mix) - (4:28) 58 BPM
Control (club mix) - (4:28) 58 BPM Hot
Review: Riya on vocals, Subten on bars, L-Side on beats, all of it on V: If this combo doesn't make you giddy like a goose then you might need to double check your D&B fan status. All bases covered, L-Side gives the groove the perfect balance of soul and savage and stacks of space for both vocalists to do their thing. Riya brings a delicate, soulful sparkle while Subten flips with lyrical realness. With a vocal mix and club mix both hitting the spot, it's time you took 'Control' of you life.

Review: Back to back, toe to toe, mano to mano, banger to banger; V Recordings celebrate the dark art of the crafty link-up with this crucial tag-team collection. Acuna b2b L-Side, Alibi b2b Sl8r, Unkoded b2b A-Audio, DJ Andy b2b Dunk... Eight men, four huge dancefloor tear-ups, all fresh for festival season. Highlights include the tension and ice cold aesthetic of 'Framed' and the grunting, shunting horse power of 'Say Something'. Hugeness as always from the V family.

Review: Heist on V Recordings! Need we say any more? Probably not but for the sake of hype, respect and pure love for the music we'll tell you how much this EP should mean to all jungle and dnb heads... Heist is a long time legend who's about to celebrate 20 years in the game and V Recordings have been on this, shaping and guiding the sound and culture since day one. This is a long-overdue match in banger heaven and it's full of heaving workouts. Highlights include the swooning emotion and slamming beats of 'Just Called' and the jazzy too-and-froe of the title track 'Harlots'. Vibes!

Hold Me Tight

Obsession - (4:20) 174 BPM
Last Dance - (3:46) 174 BPM
Review: Command Strange is feeling the pressure of these turbulent times right now and is asking for a hug. So if you see him, please 'Hold Him Tight'. A collab with fellow V familia Beat Merchants, it's a sweeping ravey roller with delicious RnB vocals to sweeten things up even further. The tight embraces continue with two other mighty slap-downs... 'Obsession' hits with stern, striking drama while 'Last Dance' heads direct to the dancefloor with a booming bass, a creepy topline and offkey pads and a ridiculously venomous bassline. You dancing?

Sl8r & Samurai Breaks - "Manny Ravers" (feat MNT) - (4:56) 170 BPM Hot
Sl8r - "Homegrown" - (4:48) 174 BPM
Review: Sl8r and Samurai Breaks... Now this is a collab you could write home about! Who knows what your mum or dad might reply with? To be honest we don't really care, we're busy raving it up as the two lads pay homage to the northern rave scene with a savage sense of funk and timeless rave energy. Looking something with more of a classic bluesy vibe? Then look no further as Sl8r's also provided the beautifully funky breakbeat rinse-out 'Homegrown'. Think the playful, sample-sizzling funk of early 2000s Hozzy and you're not far off. Find a bridge and take something to it!

Bad Trip EP
Alibi, Melinki & Macca - "Bad Trip" - (5:40) 172 BPM Hot
Melinki & Macca - "Murder Situation" - (5:41) 174 BPM
Melinki & Macca - "Raptor" - (5:41) 174 BPM
Review: As always with the legendary V Recordings, we are in for a certified thrill ride here as we dive head first into a wash of bassy goodness from both Melinki & Macca as the pair unveil their brand new project. The title track sees them jump immediately into a three way collaborative endeavour however as the knuckle dusting bass riffs and crunchy sub thrusts of 'Bad Trip' sees Alibi join the party for an explosive introduction. From here, 'Murder Situation' then looms upon the horizon, slicing together sizzling reesey synthesizer textures with high intensity drum skips and constantly shifting backdrop for a very tidy sonic experience. Finally, 'Raptor' is set loose, a blooming soundscape of 80's like synth slides, cascading into a thunderous chorus of booming 808 pulses, all tied together with some tidy breaksy sampling. Exceptional work.

Review: From the brilliant cover art through to very last snare, Chimpo has gone beyond the call of duty once again with this understated collection floor shakers on V. 'Hydraulics' is a rubber ball bass jam that relentlessly bashes and slaps, 'Show Ya' with Sl8r is all about that dreamy jazz affair while 'Hill An Gully' is all types of naughty with its wild drums and bashy switches. 'Mix Up' closes the EP on a nostalgic one. No trouble here.

Review: Massiveness from one of V Recordings' most consistent artists in recent years - Russian badman Command Strange. Four tracks, four straight up dancefloor slap-abouts: 'Welcome To The Future' (with Alibi) goes straight in with its tightly knit percussion and hardcore stabs, 'Blossom' brings the soulful vibes while 'Krusty Fingers' is all about deep dark dubby vibes. Throw in a massive L-Side remix of 'Brand New Style' (with Singing Fats on mic) and you've got yourself an absolute killer EP. Full Command!

Hot Foot - (4:08) 174 BPM Hot
Review: V maintains the Brazilian heat right here with a celebration of all things BBQ from Alibi's Level 2. Bubbly, bruised and covered in bassline sauce; 'Bite The Bone' is a dedication to those times when you're chatting away too hard in the yard and you end up chewing your drumstick right down to the bone. The jazzy, sweet and sour 'Hot Foot' bubbler, meanwhile, is for those times when a charcoal flies out and you step on it without any shoes on. Allow those wonderful purring subs to soothe it for you. Tasty.

Paul T, Edward Oberon & T.R.A.C. - "Best Life" - (4:26) 175 BPM
Review: It's finally landed! Paul T & Edward Oberon's debut album has been anticipated by many since huge anthems like 'Moon In Your Eyes' and 'Take My Breath Away' stormed the scene in recent years. Both veterans in the D&B game, an album was always going to be an exciting concept and the pair have more than delivered with an epic spread of flavours (ranging from the gritty jump up thrills of opener 'Somewhere Else' to the soulful charms of 'Wake Up') and also an all-star cast of vocalists from Fats to 2Shy to Cleveland Watkiss to A Little Sound to Riya and beyond. The whole album is a powerful bop but essential highlights include the chicken dancing bass silliness of 'Rockin Me' and the soaring euphoria of their latest Serum link-up 'Strange Days'. One of the biggest albums in D&B this season.

Sl8r & Patch Edison - "It's Amazing" - (4:49) 174 BPM
Review: Ignoring the Lord's Prayer every gosh-darned day, Sl8r leads us directly into 'Temptation' and we wouldn't have it any other way. The title feeds us to the brim with our daily bread thanks to its classic space jazz Headzy feels while 'Hasbulla' delivers us from evil with its scorchio high voltage reese and perfectly rattled snare. Elsewhere the deep subby bubbles of 'System' forgive us our trespasses while the sweet and soulful vibes of Sl8r and Patch Edison's 'It's Amazing' forgive those who trespass against us. Arguably one of his best EPs to date, this is the sound of one of Manchester's most exciting young talents levelling up once again. Sl8r be thy name.

Review: Just when you thought Sl8r couldn't get any funkier, and Slay couldn't get even sharper, along comes 'Danger' and it's naughtier than ever red light district in Europe combined. Straight up rudeboy rudiments; shoulder rolling juicy funk with such natural bars, 'Danger' is a summer anthem in waiting. And if that's not quite enough badman sass along comes Chimpo and joins the pair for another jazzy, light-footed-but-heavy-bellied bumper 'Falling'. Pure juice!

Review: L-Side's debut album came out some time ago now, and this is the long awaited remix EP, featuring some of the best artists in the game giving L-Side's tunes the once over. Break steps up and nails it as per usual, taking those perfect vocals and stretching them over a punishing bassline; thank god we're back in clubs soon, because this is going to kill it. Dogger & Mindstate work their lounging piano magic to great effect, and Spirit takes the essence of drum and bass and rolls it out with a monstrously stabbing bassline. Alibi close things on a head-nodding, subby note that will have you moving for sure. Sick.

Review: T.R.A.C is one of V's resident dons on the mic and the NYC-based vocalist's 'Life In' album was a sensational display of his talent as well as that of the label. The remix album has been a long time coming and it's jam packed with some of V's best broader talent; Need for Mirrors, Command Strange, Danny Wheeler, Saxxon and more. Maverick Soul delivers in a big way on his remix of 'Welcome to the Stateside', a seriously funky number, as do Artificial Intelligence on 'Pursuit', which they keep true to its roots but make even more melancholy - a proper roller. L-Side nails his take on 'Roarganic Symphony', which is dripping with soul in a departure from his often cutting style. Big LP from the crew.

Review: This compilation arrives with a rich heritage of V Recordings compilations behind it, and Planet V has for a number of years been the flagship series for Bryan Gee's label. Edition four comes to a whopping 73 tracks and includes a mix as well, and all the familiar V faces are present, from Alibi to Paul t & Edward Oberon. All of the tunes have already seen the light of day in a previous form, and Disrupta and Duskee's 'Deep Thoughts' is one of the standouts, as Disrupta lays down a minimal yet funky beat for Duskee to rap lyrical over, something he does with serious presence. New gun SL8r makes several appearances, including on the excellent 'What U Need', which bounces along in a synthscape of serious depth and texture, its funky nodes nodding to the beat of a vintage blend. Crossover outfit Think Tonk also shine with 'Tom & Heavy', an offering unique in its stepping, breaksy percussion and one which oozes soulful class. There are dozens more to have a gander at, so take your pick.

Review: Saxxon is one of the longest-serving members of the V Recordings camp, with music coming on all parts of Bryan Gee's umbrella movement. Time Is Right is coming on the main label and you can hear why, with a rich texture of sound that spans the whole spectrum of the music, from the rolling funk of 'Get Locked' to the dirty basslines of 'Higher', which also features Wednesday Amelia amongst some of the best sampling we've heard in ages. It's a classic V release that straddles that funky, dancefloor friendly sound that Bryan has done so much to push.

Police Baton
Police Baton - (4:02) 58 BPM Hot
Sunshine Through The Ceiling - (4:03) 58 BPM
Review: Think Tonk is one of the most unique artists within the V Recordings camp, as they blend hip-hop and reggae vibes with the pace and energy of drum & bass, an approach which matches perfectly with V's long, cross-genre history. 'Police Baton' is classic, with a funky, stepping drum line that underpins its snarling bassline and off-kilter, spoken vocals, a rhythmic package that smacks of carnival season and then some. The flip leans more towards classic jungle vibes, as a soulful melody stabs through the arrangement with the air of old school garage, whilst punchy drums sing their song below. Big.

Late Night Connection (Benny L remix) - (4:57) 174 BPM
Review: The instantly recognisable sounds of NYC's T.R.A.C (one of the US's most important contributions to D&B MC culture) enjoy a reboot from man like Benny L. Part of a series of killer remixes from T.R.A.C's 2017 album Life In Motion, here we find Benny maintaining that bouncy, slightly ravey uplift of the original Serum collaboration while adding more of his signature south London grit and grumble. Savage, just like all Benny L joints.

What A Ting (L-Side remix) - (4:34) 175 BPM Hot
How We Do It Tonight (Command Strange remix) - (4:53) 58 BPM
Review: Mystery Manny badmen Think Tonk undergo the remix treatment with two of V's most consistent and forward-thinking artists. L-Side takes "What A Ting" apart and flips it into a brutal steamroller, continuing the high-grade uppsettery he's been doing with his remixes of Dillinja and Krust. "How We Do It Tonight" meanwhile gets boosted by Command Strange. Another V don who's yet to deliver a bad jam, he gives the original a super-tasteful treatment maintaining all the soul and heart of the original while adding a little extra weight. Thinking man's crumpet, thonking man's trumpet; everyone involved in this release can do no wrong.

Review: Bryan Gee and V Recordings do not mess around. They never have in the past, they're certainly not right now in the present and judging by this highly anticipated Future album, they're going to mess around any time ahead. 25 tracks from some of the biggest, best and baddest names in D&B (Dillina, Serum, Benny L, Paul T & Edward Oberon, Roni Size, DJ Marky, Drumsound & Bassline Smith, Bladerunner, Saxxon, the list goes on) this one's been a long, long, long time coming... And it's been well worth the wait. From L-Sides massive remixes of Dillinja and Krust to Need For Mirrors super-revved "Lambo" to Benny L's incredible remix of "Days", this sums up why Bryan and his label are as influential and respected in the game as they are today. Don't mess around.

L-Side & Need For Mirrors - "Resist" - (5:42) 174 BPM
Review: L-Side is the living embodiment of the seriously historical links between Bryan Gee's V Recordings and Brazil, especially the city of Sao Paolo. He's back on his long-time home for a three-track EP and The Void does what he does best: roll things out with musical sophistication and technical toughness. The title track is dripping in acid moodiness and the ambience of aggressiveness carpets the bouncy, emphatic synth line with an elegance of movement perfectly befitting its solid percussive undergirding. 'Resist' featuring Need For Mirrors is an ideal blend of their respective stylistic pallettes and with the menacing veneer of L-Side and the left-field subtelty of Moses coming in strong, it proves to be a potent mix. What an EP from the V team.

Review: V Recordings' Future LP finally looks set to drop fairly soon and this remix from Benny L is part of it, blending as it does the classic tones of Bristol legend Roni with Benny's more new school, harsher style of production. 'Dayz' is a timeless piece of work and Benny has flipped it on its head, rolling out some ragged breaks underneath Roni's instantly recognisable sample work and over a simple but incredibly effective bassline. Excellent stuff.

Review: Juiceman and Jubbz come correct once again with their Beat Merchants alias. This time packing a full EP, across four tracks the duo dig deep into the roots with some magic results. "Mandelah" is a potent piece of minimalism that swings like a Die track and is coated with all manner of little details. Elsewhere "Juju Man" gets militant on a steppy halftime dancehall vibe, "Mbe Mbe" is pure jungle music while "Zumuzah" concludes the EP on a dreamy, springy flex. Review: Command Strange is back for his first EP in quite a while and the Kazakh producer is taking any prisoners, with a return to form in his rolling, pacey style that focuses on swaying basslines and pummelling drums. The title track is vintage V, with a combination of funky stabs and a bouncing, stabby bassline that is wicked at getting the head nodding. He teams up with Dr Meaker on the heavier tones of 'Fruity', before ending things with a bang on 'Loco'. Crazy stuff indeed.

Review: Beat Merchants the name; soothing's the game... Conrad, Juiceman and Jubbz' project returns with another bounty of soulful bliss. Two originals, two remixes: the agenda is set by the simple understate soul of "Lockdown" with stripped back pianos, horns and some beautiful vocal pairing throughout while "Believe" takes us to the furthest of far-sides with a blissful (and well-loved) guitar lick, an elasticated double bassline and sharp bars. Elsewhere Command Strange flips "Hurricane" into more of a barbed beast while L Side turbo charges the title track with consummate soul. Keep this on lockdown...

Review: Alibi are the Brazilian duo who never fail to impress and having dropped a stellar debut album only months ago, they're back with a four-track EP on the inimitable V Recordings. Catalyst sees a return to their gritty, barebones take on rolling D&B, it's a format that they manage to constantly reinvent for themselves and Catalyst does it just as well as usual. 'Directions' is arguably the highlight, with numerous artists singing its praises on Twitter and we can see why, with a big, wide and synthy build up that dissipates wonderfully on the drop into a spacious, forceful arrangement that breathes well and moves even better. Top EP once more from the boys.

Review: V Recordings do some of the best compilations in the business and their brand new Foundation series is a natural recognition of that fact. They're not being hyperbolic with the usage of the term 'Foundation' either, because this is truly an overview of some of the scene's most foundational producers. Old-school Dillinja, Krust, Roni Size and DJ Die, amongst others, make up the roster of acts that formed an integral part of the genre back in the day. The new crew is also represented, however, in the form of L-Side, Think Tonk, Nasza Linez and loads more, all of whom bring some of that V-style heat. Wicked album - one for the heads.

Broken - (5:06) 176 BPM
Review: Paul T & Edward Oberon are a duo with a long and distinguished history on Bryan Gee's V Recordings and their sound spans all corners of the spectrum, from the very light to the obscenely heavy. This single is orientated towards the latter and the A-side - 'Look For The Light' - hits especially hard, with a stonkingly powerful percussive line that almost makes the whole tune. That honour, however, goes to the collection of bass sounds that give this tune its propulsion and sense of forwards movement. An absolutely incredible track, with an almost-as-strong B-side. V and the crew have killed it once more.

Major Groove - (4:50) 174 BPM
Review: Command Strange and Alibi is a combination to be reckoned with. With the former from Kazakhstan and the latter a duo from Brazil, this partnership spans both the globe and D&B's more sophisticated, classy end. Don't be fooled by that sophistication though, this is still music that's gritty and rooted in the scene's penchant for tough beats and urban sonics. 'Stardust' is a subby roller that reminds us of 'Skyline' from the same artists, and 'Major Groove' is a dirty, junglist piece of naughtiness with serious attitude. V Recordings does it again.

Rain On Me - (5:27) 175 BPM Hot
Review: V Recordings' string of wicked, more low-key singles continues with this venture from Carlito & Addiction, two acts who have been in the V orbit for a number of years. You can hear that experience in the crisp yet rough productions on display here, the old-school influences are apparent but that doesn't prevent it from being cutting edge. 'Spinner' has a lovely long introduction with an almost LTJ Bukem vibe to it, a sense of ambience that's maintained on the drop except with an added injecting of low-frequency force. 'Rain On Me' is just as subtle but even more shakey down low, with a sick collection of bass touches, stabs and wobbles. Lovely stuff.

Falling Down (feat Ayah Marar) - (6:20) 175 BPM
Review: V Recordings have a knack for signing music that's infectiously danceable but still gritty and tough, a description that applies perfectly to their latest single from The Insiders. Known for their contributions to Intrigue Music's anniversary collections amongst other things, The Insiders have absolutely smashed this single. 'Falling Down' featuring Ayah packs funk and melodic progression into the introduction but takes things darker on the drop, a nice duality than lends an element of creativity to an extremely feel-good number. 'Integrity' is steppier, more stripped back and orientated for the dancefloor, with a sparse but punchy arrangement that smacks of old-school V. Sick little release.

Review: V Recordings slide into their 25th year with another Sao Paulo salute as Simplification returns to the label with four absolute stunners; "Analogy" is a pneumatic stepper with crisp punctuated drums and a vibe that nods to the "Untitled Horn" vibe. "Venus" continues the dark cosmic feels as fellow Sao Paulians L-Side join the moody, spacious fray. Elsewhere "Hold On" slips into something slower as we're shown how things are done with space-age 140 breaks while "Free Me" shuts us all down with a swaggering, riff buzzer, all electrified, waspish and devilishly funky. Hold tight.

Review: Level 2 and DJ Chap need no introduction. Right at the front of Sao Paulo's new wave of D&B talent, their Alibi project has been damaging dancefloors (and hogging our playlists) for several years now. Enough years, in fact, to hone their stripped back dark soul signature to an album level. And here it is... Said & Done is a powerful document that cements the duo's skills and position in the game. Ranging from the subtle piano laced opener "Debris" to solid sure fire stinkers like "Through The City" (with Serum & T.R.A.C) via sci fi junglised steppers like the gently fluctuating "Recycle", this Level 2 and DJ Chap at their most widescreen; leaping from delicate ("Grace" with vocalist OG Cleveland Watkiss) to deadly (the venomous creeper "Said & Done" with MC king DRS) this is a seriously on point debut album. Island vibes run through the four track EP as we're bashed, wavey and woozed into sunny side submission; "How We Do It" bumps with a yearning dusky haze and strong afrobeat connotations, "What A Ting" is a much darker stepper coded with demonic vocal textures and a full power pay off while "Medicate On The I" gets sticky fingered and smoky souled with almost trance-like undertones before "Live Our Lives" closes with a little harmonic drum resonance and Latin percussion. Review: Saxxon is taking no breaks after his recent album on Liondub and he's back on V Recordings with the Fifth Elements EP. This release perfectly blends soul with dirt, exemplified by tune #1 'Here To Play', which begins in lighter territory but switches into a powerful, thursting bassline that just rolls, rolls and rolls some more. 'One For Me' is even funkier and more fluid on the intro, a soulful sample rising above the drums before darkness pushes out from the drop and hits you in the chest - this tune doesn't break down and rightly so. 'Hurricanes' lies in more vocal-led territory thanks to Wednesday Amelia, who sounds beautiful above its bouncing, squelchy back end. The opening strings and piano on 'Love Note' are a statement of intent for a tune that quickly evolves into a dichotomous riot between light and dark, with a bassline that's eccentric but just doesn't care. The EP finishes on 'System', an uncompromising tune that ties up perfectly a classic V Recordings release.

"Retaliation" follows with stripped back dynamic, snaked two-step and endless risers and "Keep Rolling" hammers with a dancefloor grit that's up there with Professor Bassline Smith in its darkened aesthetic and pure muscle. Finally "Let Be Stomp" says cheerio with a classic hip hop sample, hurricane bass licks and beats so strong they could crush your entire street. Sanctuary isn't a luxury... It's a necessity.

Nang
Nang - (5:30) 175 BPM Hot
Why We Dance - (5:21) 175 BPM
Review: There's no information on Tolima Jets at all. Brand new act or cheeky new alias? We have no idea but we do know that they sound like a breath of fresh air. Certified afrobeat action; "Nang" is a rising, uplifting piece of magic with sweeping instrumentation and blissful afro vocals. "Why We Dance" takes a more sombre tone with lilting chords and a deep soul to the vocal. Watch out for the switch midway, though. This doesn't just make you dance, it takes you places....

Social Misfits EP
Change The Game - (4:18) 175 BPM
Velvet Rooms - (4:51) 174 BPM Hot
I Feel It - (4:56) 175 BPM
Review: Blame & DJ Concrete's new Social Misfits project make themselves known on this killer debut EP on V Recordings. Repping and fusing the big classic V sound from the late 90s and the formative Hospital early 2000s sound right down to the core, all three cuts here are surefire summer sizzlers. "Change The Game" rattles with a Roni style loose double bass funk, "Velvet Rooms" blasts with a well known horn sample and early High Contrastesque energy while "I Feel It" is just a straight up power liquid rocket to the furthest corner of the D&B funk cosmos. Being a misfit has never been so funky.

Acid Fashion/Silly Putty
Acid Fashion - (6:09) 170 BPM Hot
Silly Putty - (4:15) 174 BPM
Review: Their second release deep and still we're none the wiser as to who Nazca Linez are. But when the music is as sharp as this, who are we to argue? "Acid Fashion" rolls out at a refreshingly stately six minutes, shoots from the hip with a venomous 303 line that warps and gurgles beneath a spacey dubbed out overlays "Silly Putty" continues that raw, warm, distorted analogy feel, switching out the acid for a much more drawn out moaning foghorn bass texture. On-point and future-focused, this is up there with the work of Need For Mirrors or Spirit.

Sleepwalkers/Stomp
Sleepwalkers - (5:43) 176 BPM
Stomp - (3:53) 176 BPM Hot
Review: One of V's strongest partnerships, Paul T & Edward Oberon strike gold once again. "Sleepwalkers" brings out the woke in you with its precision balance of shades thanks to a lingering soul vocal and big boom tunnel drone bassline. "Stomp" explores the contrast furthermore with a stampede build and a coin-flipping high-toned rabbit punch riff. Distinctive, heavy but powered with soul, PT & EO are cooking with a fine alchemy right here.

I Need A Riddim/Hypnotize
I Need A Riddim - (4:54) 174 BPM
Hypnotize - (4:32) 174 BPM Hot
Review: Emergency! Emergency! Belgian don Murdock needs a riddim and he needs it stat! Using a classic rave vocal snippet then flipping it into the stankiest, droning jungle rumbler he's ever concocted, this is an amazing example of how riddim addiction and consequent withdrawal is affecting the nation - and how riotous things are on the dancefloors right now. "Hypnotize" on V is similarly foundation-minded with its incessant vampish stabs and sudden drum switches. Modern classical.

L-Side feat DRS
No Sound - (6:30) 175 BPM
Played by: DJ Hybrid
Review: Ahead of his highly-anticipated album Carnal Mind next month, Sao Paulo vibe conjurer L-Side teams up with DRS for a hurricane soul romp with the one and only DRS. A deep driving piece with psychedelic synths whipping up and around Delroy's delicious dulcets underpinned by gurgling, warping bass, this is an open and shut case for chopping and indeed severing. Bring on the album!

Planet V: Drum & Bass Vol 3 (Album Sampler)
Skyline (VIP) - (5:38) 174 BPM
Ahead Of Me (VIP) - (4:50) 174 BPM Hot
Review: Astronauts and astronomers alike have been searching for the paradise planet known as Planet V but only one man knows where it is. That man is V don Bryan Gee. Luckily he's happy to take us the planet, and right now he's charging up the rocket for our third trip on pure turbo charge VIP power. For this particular sampler Alibi & Command Strange's collabs from last year both get a variation twist. "Skyline" gets a whole turbine in the bass engine while "Ahead Of Me" is given a subtle twist in the groove department while maintaining that all important roll. V flickingly sublime.
