Review: Let's go round again... new mixes here of a track that first appeared on Leroy Burgess's 2022 album 'These Days', but that borrows its main vocal hook from the much-covered/ much-sampled classic 'Mainline' - a track that he wrote for his first group Black Ivory but didn't actually appear on, having left the band before it was recorded. Just to confuse matters, a remix by Two Soul Fusion (AKA Louie Vega and Josh Milan) appeared on the 'These Days: The Remixes' album in 2023, but that one clocked in at just 5:33. Now it's back in all its 13:25 glory, complete with matching Instrumental and (DJ tool) Stank Beat rubs, with a shorter dub and a radio edit completing the package.

Fittingly Louie Vega kicks things off, joining forces with Josh Milan on the bouncy Latin-house Two Soul Fusion remix and more stripped-back 'Beat-Sax Mix', before David Guetta speeds things up on a surprisingly tasteful rework that recalls his early career contributions to the Africanism project. Review: Louie Vega's long-running Elements of Life project - an ever-changing collective of musicians who create live house, disco, Latin and soul tracks - returns to action, this time with long-time pal Josh Milan in tow. In its original Louie Vega mix form (track 3),'Let U Shine' is a deliciously deep soulful house number with tribal-influenced percussion, gospel-influenced vocals and Vega's usual impeccably produced instrumentation. There are two top-notch 'Honeycomb' mixes (vocal and instrumental), which opt for a breezier and more tactile vibe and nods to both early New York garage-house and the earlier 'proto-house' wave spearheaded by Boyd Jarvis, Timmy Regisford and Paul Simpson. Rounding off the EP is the previously unheard demo version of live Latin house workout 'Los Tonos Segrados'.

Review: Seven months on from its initial release, Mr X's Vega Records debut, the sweat-soaked brilliance of 'The Curse', returns in remixed form. The producer's 'Revisited' version adds a big dose of bumping, loose-limbed, Kenny Dope style drum programming to the pot, peppering his infectious beats (and deep, stabbing bassline), with minor key chords, restless piano stabs and all manner of horror-influenced aural textures. It's a hypnotic, slowly building treat that argues makes a great cut even better. It comes backed with two previously unheard workouts: 'The Underground', with its sampled bass guitar loops and jacking drum machine beats, and the bouncy, disco-influenced, Sneak style loop jam that is 'B-Side Only'.

Review: 'Exodus' is the debut full-length from Josh Milan's Honeysweet project, featuring six tracks served up in a total of nine mixes and brought to you by Vega Records. Stylistically, the album as a whole sits somewhere between Blaze-y soulful house and more jazz-funk inspired projects like Dave Lee's Sunburst Band or the label boss's own Elements Of Life: for house floors 'Last Night' or 'Being Free' are probably your best bets, Hammond lovers will want to make a beeline for 'Exodus Of 21', while if you're in the mood for something a little more wigged-out and forward-thinking then start with the Honeycomb No Bass Mix of 'Crazy'.

Review: UK stalwart Tony Touch steps up with an Afro-house/UK funky-flavoured workout that's served up in a whopping eight mixes - four from Mr Touch himself and four from Pablo Fierro. Touch's OG Main and Alternate mixes are both quite similar in sound, while the OG Instrumental and Spoken Word mixes ditch the chanted vocal and the insistent horns, respectively. Fierro's remixes flip the script just a little more, as he smoothes things out considerably on his Afro Latino and Cariocas rubs, while finally his OK 808 Mix adds a lil' electronic flava, though even that's quite subtle.

Review: The members of Vega Records promo list - including a string of headline DJs - have been going crazy for this debut two-tracker from the mysterious Mr. X, a New Jersey-based producer who clearly has some serious skills. Lead cut 'The Curse' is a terrficially energectic, sweat-soaked affair, with incessant electric piano stabs riding a breathless base of swinging, bumping house drums, deep bass and echo-laden percussion fills. On '95', the producer opts for an even deeper, sub-heavy sound, more bumpin' beats, low-register synthesizer rumbles, glassy-eyed female vocal samples and dubbed-out synth stabs. It's a proper peak-time roller that's as weighty as it is infectious.

Review: Last summer, veteran singer/songwriter Mike Lindup dropped 'Time To Let Go', a delicious fusion of synth-pop, Afro-pop and dreamy soul that was set to feature on his long-promised follow-up to 1990 album Changes. Now Masters at Work man Louie Vega has got his hands on it and delivered a suite of fresh, club-ready reworks. Vega's EP-opening 'Expressions NYC Mix' does a great job in wrapping Lindup's original vocals, fluid pianos, chords and squelchy synth-bass around a snappy house groove, subtly re-framing it for peak-time floors. The 'Two Soul Afro House Fusion' mix is arguably even better, with Vega adding layers of delicious instrumentation to a Tony Allen-inspired Afro-house beat. Throw in a couple of instrumentals and a handy 'Beats' version and you have an excellent package.

Review: First featured on long-serving British band Osibisa's 2021 album New Dawn, 'Yo Luv is Betta' is a glistening, life-affirming chunk of Afro-soul cheeriness rich in shuffling, Tony Allen style drums, sparkling High-Life guitars and warming horns. Who better to remix it, then, than Masters at Work man Louie Vega? He joins forces with Josh Milan on a handful of fine revisions, including the deliciously percussive Afro-house bounce of the pair's main remix and a 'Celebration Mix' that sticks more closely to the band's original version (which, frustratingly, isn't featured on this remix set). Vega's own musically detailed, Sitar-sporting 'NYC Expansions Dub' and a variety of instrumental revisions make up a rock-solid package.

Review: Second time around for NYC beat-maker Tony Touch's Latin-fired dancefloor workout 'Sacude', which first surfaced on Vega Records back in 2017. This time round it comes accompanied by a dizzying number of fresh remixes. Label boss Louie Vega leads the way, delivering a trio of low-slung, sweat-soaked Latin house takes that put heavy bass guitar and Puerto Rican percussion at the heart of the action. Manoo's suite of remixes are largely deeper and more rhythmically bouncy, with shimmering synth chords, beefy sub-bass and crisp, punchy percussion. Miami scene stalwart Oscar G (he of Murk fame) provides tougher, tech-tinged, basement-bothering revisions that are more muscular than your average powerlifter, while Tony Touch's own remix doffs a cap towards Cumbia and reggaeton.

Review: First out in 2005, this track by Anane gets new mixes from Mike Dunn that tone down the exuberant Latin flourishes of the original, making for a smoother ride that will play well alongside the deep, soulful grooves flooding out of South Africa these days. The BlackBall Vox mix is the most faithful to the original version but if the vocal's a little syrupy-sweet for you then there are BlackBall Mental, Black Glitter Mental and Black Glitter Dub mixes to choose from. Completing the package is Detroit veteran Rick 'The Godson' Wilhite's piano-looping remix of 'Standing In Line' from 2010's 'Ananesworld' album.

Review: Here's something to genuinely set the pulse racing: a cover of Barabbas' Afro-fired funk-rock classic, "Woman", which brings together producer extraordinaire Louie Vega (and his Elements of Life Band) and legendary freestyle singer George LaMond. Vega's EP-leading "Main Mix" is the bomb: a richly percussive, 11-minute fusion of Latin disco and funk rock topped off with clipped guitar riffs, heavy organ chords and a killer lead vocal from LaMond. Vega provides numerous remixes himself, including an extra-percussive "Dub Bass Organ" mix and a salsa-inspired "Latin Soul Mix" that's almost as essential as the main version. Elsewhere, old pal David Morales provides a breezy house remix and an organ-heavy dub, while Frankie C's "Brazilian Mix" is a carnival-friendly affair that's seriously infectious and life-affirming. In a word: brilliant.

Review: Really this should be called 'Elements Of Life Extensions: Extensions', because for this reissue the 2004 remixed version of Vega's landmark 2003 long-player has been beefed up from eight tracks to 16. 'Elements Of Life' saw Vega turning his back on tuff NYC house in favour of summery, Latin- and jazz-infused soul, and for anyone who loved the original album this is an essential purchase - Jazz N' Grooves blissed-out take on 'Mozalounge' is worth the price of admission on its own! But check it out even if you weren't a fan, if only for the dreamaway space disco of 'Steel Congo' and a very respectable cover of Candido's classic 'Thousand Finger Man'.

He collaborated with homegirl Ndu Shezi and renowned Johannesburg gospel singer Thebe here. Review: After a successful run of vinyl editions, the Grammy award nominated XXVIII digital release series is taking it to another level with The Unreleased & Lost Mixes. One half of the legendary Masters At Work, Lil Louie Vega has stated that when making albums, there are more songs created than allocated for a project. In this case, there were said to be over 50 tracks created for this particular project. He selected 22 unreleased and lost tracks from the recordings and remixes, along with DJ friendly versions by close associates.
