Review: One half of Masters At Work and a legend in his own right, NYC's Little Louis Vega is back on his own Vega imprint with a little help from the unmistakeable vocal talents of Jocelyn Brown. The original version is as typical of Vega as you'd expect, with that big band soul-disco sound that MAW is synonymous with. The "Louie Vega Dub" is a killer club ready mix just made for discotheques in the Meatpacking District. Fellow Big Apple legend David Morales lends his midas touch to the track, taking you back to the days of the legendary Sound Factory. The "Morales Groovy Mix" is more of a dub version for the late hours with its entrancing melody and rolling groove. Finally the "Vega's Backgrounds Are Everything mix" revisits the glory of the original but focusing more on the backing vocals.

Review: First featured on long-serving British band Osibisa's 2021 album New Dawn, 'Yo Luv is Betta' is a glistening, life-affirming chunk of Afro-soul cheeriness rich in shuffling, Tony Allen style drums, sparkling High-Life guitars and warming horns. Who better to remix it, then, than Masters at Work man Louie Vega? He joins forces with Josh Milan on a handful of fine revisions, including the deliciously percussive Afro-house bounce of the pair's main remix and a 'Celebration Mix' that sticks more closely to the band's original version (which, frustratingly, isn't featured on this remix set). Vega's own musically detailed, Sitar-sporting 'NYC Expansions Dub' and a variety of instrumental revisions make up a rock-solid package.

Review: Here's something to genuinely set the pulse racing: a cover of Barabbas' Afro-fired funk-rock classic, "Woman", which brings together producer extraordinaire Louie Vega (and his Elements of Life Band) and legendary freestyle singer George LaMond. Vega's EP-leading "Main Mix" is the bomb: a richly percussive, 11-minute fusion of Latin disco and funk rock topped off with clipped guitar riffs, heavy organ chords and a killer lead vocal from LaMond. Vega provides numerous remixes himself, including an extra-percussive "Dub Bass Organ" mix and a salsa-inspired "Latin Soul Mix" that's almost as essential as the main version. Elsewhere, old pal David Morales provides a breezy house remix and an organ-heavy dub, while Frankie C's "Brazilian Mix" is a carnival-friendly affair that's seriously infectious and life-affirming. In a word: brilliant.

Review: Mkhonzeni Langa (better known by his stage name Professor) is a South African Kwaito musician from Durban. He collaborated with homegirl Ndu Shezi and renowned Johannesburg gospel singer Thebe here. If that was not enough, they even got Detroit legend Amp Fiddler into the mix for the uplifting and spiritual house epic "Unobenga" in early 2017 - originally the B side of "So Sweet" and featuring label boss Lil Louie Vega's astonishing remix. Featured here also is his powerful and evocative Louie Vega Rain remix and an awesome bonus beats rework, which will work as a killer DJ tool and could appeal to wide cross range of jockeys - piping hot this one!

Review: Last summer, veteran singer/songwriter Mike Lindup dropped 'Time To Let Go', a delicious fusion of synth-pop, Afro-pop and dreamy soul that was set to feature on his long-promised follow-up to 1990 album Changes. Now Masters at Work man Louie Vega has got his hands on it and delivered a suite of fresh, club-ready reworks. Vega's EP-opening 'Expressions NYC Mix' does a great job in wrapping Lindup's original vocals, fluid pianos, chords and squelchy synth-bass around a snappy house groove, subtly re-framing it for peak-time floors. The 'Two Soul Afro House Fusion' mix is arguably even better, with Vega adding layers of delicious instrumentation to a Tony Allen-inspired Afro-house beat. Throw in a couple of instrumentals and a handy 'Beats' version and you have an excellent package.

Review: Seven months on from its initial release, Mr X's Vega Records debut, the sweat-soaked brilliance of 'The Curse', returns in remixed form. The producer's 'Revisited' version adds a big dose of bumping, loose-limbed, Kenny Dope style drum programming to the pot, peppering his infectious beats (and deep, stabbing bassline), with minor key chords, restless piano stabs and all manner of horror-influenced aural textures. It's a hypnotic, slowly building treat that argues makes a great cut even better. It comes backed with two previously unheard workouts: 'The Underground', with its sampled bass guitar loops and jacking drum machine beats, and the bouncy, disco-influenced, Sneak style loop jam that is 'B-Side Only'.

Review: The members of Vega Records promo list - including a string of headline DJs - have been going crazy for this debut two-tracker from the mysterious Mr. X, a New Jersey-based producer who clearly has some serious skills. Lead cut 'The Curse' is a terrficially energectic, sweat-soaked affair, with incessant electric piano stabs riding a breathless base of swinging, bumping house drums, deep bass and echo-laden percussion fills. On '95', the producer opts for an even deeper, sub-heavy sound, more bumpin' beats, low-register synthesizer rumbles, glassy-eyed female vocal samples and dubbed-out synth stabs. It's a proper peak-time roller that's as weighty as it is infectious.
