Review: Having impressed with his previous Tracey EP on Voyage Direct - the sparkling, Detroit-influenced Skyfall - Tom Ruijg returns to action with an arguably even stronger four-tracker. Title track "Testarossa" is typically spacey, with Ruijg wrapping intergalactic electronics and lilting synthesizer melodies around a darting synthesizer bassline and swinging, electro-influenced house drums, while "Sidekick" doffs a cap to the new age-influenced style of Young Marco. On the flip he expertly combines elements of Chicago jack and NYC house on "Made My Love", before rounding things off with wild and windy electro workout "Interceptor". Throughout, Ruijg's colourful synths and dusty old drum machines take centre stage

Review: For his first outing on his own Voyage Direct label since 2014, Tom Trago has prepared a loving tribute to his favourite synthesizer, Yamaha's 1980s classic, the DX7. What he calls the machine's "glassy but classy, icy sound" is evident throughout, as he delivers a melodious collection of tracks bristling with colourful tunefulness. Impressively, Trago has also delivered tracks that touch on a range of moods, from the bustling electro bounce of "XYZ" and soundscape-driven deepness of opener "Harvest", to the psychedelic, mind-bending dancefloor bubbliness of "Rain Room". You'll also find two different versions of "Opulent": the cascading cut-glass melodies and chunky deep house warmth of the "Without Mix" and the stab-heavy peak-time bounce of the "Within Mix".

Review: With releases on Deepermotions, Rush Hour and Hometaping is Killing Music, Dutch producer Simon Weiss has established a reputation for combining a deep understanding of dancefloor dynamics with a sci-fi inspired futurist aesthetic. Back in 2015, he delivered his first EP for Tom Trago's Voyage Direct. It was 'an impressively intergalactic affair, full of supersonic synthesizer arpeggio lines, Motor City influences and robotic drum machine hits.' Two years since, he is back with the fabulous You Want A Cigarette EP. The dirty retro acid of "Brain Fever" has that distinct glide of the little silver Roland box, accompanied by classic vocoder and neon lit synths. Not forgetting the title track, which nails that good 'ol fashion Underground Resistance styled hi-tech soul to convincing effect.

Review: Oh yes, it's finally time for Steve Rachmad's Sterac Electronics to drop the highly anticipated Things To Think About LP on our charts! The Detroit veteran teased us with a sampler back in May, but this is the final product, and it's safe to say that you won't find such heartfelt electro anywhere else. In fact, the majority of elector being made nowadays, which there is plenty of, seems to be dark and gratuitously macabre, but Rachmad's got that MOJO vibe going all the way through this badboy. Tunes like "Game Changers" or "Metratron" use the unmistakable kinetic vibe associated to electro, but they do so in a way that's funky and enjoyable for all walk of life. There are darker, more cerebral moments like "Original Pattern" or "Beyond My Wishes", but these are still very much ingrained in a light, boogie-friendly sort of tip that keeps on giving. Pure electro class from the source!

Ride That Ssh... - (6:20) 122 BPM
Review: We're a little confused as to how Elias Mazian has only released two EPs over the last three years. The young whipper-snapper started life on Tom Trago's excellent Voyage Direct back in 2014, and it's taken him this long to make his comeback on the imprint. This new EP is as fiery and confident as his first release; "Duplicate", the title track, is an absolute summer melter, bringing through a deliciously warm, bubbling bassline that takes a little inspiration from the 80s boogie era - addictive and built for long-term use! The Dream mix is, as you'd expect, a lot deeper and more mystical than the original tune, allowing those synths to linger in the top-half of the mix for much longer. "Ride That Ssh" is a naughty, devilish little Chicago house banger backed by a raw, loose percussion swing and some tasty Mr Fingers-style synth work. All in all, a perfect summer affair with a classic US house filter.

Things To Think About Album Sampler
Archetype - (7:02) 130 BPM Hot
Metatron - (4:06) 55 BPM
Review: Things To Think About is the first album from Dutch electronic music legend Steve Rachmad's lesser known Sterac Electronics project. It's been quite some time since we've been treated to some of Rachmad's electro-funk experiments under this alias but when inspiration struck, it is said that he returned to the project and jammed out tracks using an impressive collection of vintage synthesizers and drum machines. In addition to this material, he revisited the archives with Voyage Direct label boss Tom Trago and discovered some forgotten gems: that have been unearthed here for the first time in many years. "Archetype" is classic Motor City style electro of the sub-aquatic kind. "Metatron" is a deep and sublime serving of funky techno-soul in the tradition of Mind & Body era Model 500.

Use Me Again
Use Me Again (Remastered) - (8:18) 124 BPM Hot
Lost In The Streets Of NYC - (4:33) 123 BPM
Review: While he may have moved on musically in recent years, Tom Trago still can't escape his 2010 anthem "Use Me Again". To be fair, it is a stone cold killer - a stomping, peak-time friendly disco-house masterpiece that makes great use of elements borrowed from a particularly potent, singalong disco classic. Should you not have it in your collection - and, let's face it, you should - then this timely digital reissue is just the ticket. As it was all those years ago, the track comes accompanied by 2009's "Lost In The Streets Of NYC", a thrilling chunk of cut-up deep house heaviness complete with melancholic piano flourishes, rubbery electrofunk bass, fuzzy chords and driving beats.

Review: Tracey is the new artistic alias of Tom Ruijg, an Amsterdam scene veteran who has previously released on Bangbang, Karat, Hot Waves and Soweso. On this first Voyage Direct outing, he displays a keen knowledge of vintage synthesizers and drum computers. The title track is particularly potent, and features a blend of melodious, Young Marco style new age melodies, ambient techno chords, and distorted, club-ready drums. The EP's other original production, "Earthrise", shuffles further towards Euro-techno/Motor City futurist fusion. On the virtual flipside, Tape Records co-founder Deniro delivers two tasty remixes: a rough and ready, acid-fired 'Mental Mix', and the driving but melodious "Ouda Mix", where Ruijg's new age synths are underpinned by restless drum machine fills and fizzing cymbals.

CMP135 - (6:35) 122 BPM
Review: Efde has only a few releases to his credit, but this outing on Tom Trago's label trumps his previous output. In its original format, the title track combines soaring trance melodies, rolling snare drums and a central riff that gets more and more noisy as the arrangement progresses. It makes for an intoxicating combination and is redolent of "Primary Roots", one of Trago's own, earlier productions. There is an eerie ambient version of the title track, but it's clear from the rest of the release that Efde's real home is out on the dance floor. "Just Did It" is a pulsing, electronic bass-heavy affair, while on "CMP135", he mines a deeper but still driving house sound.

Review: Were dear old Mary Whitehouse still around today, she'd undoubtedly be lobbying Voyage Direct to "ban this sick filth". You see, Dirty Talk more than lives up to its' name, with William Djoko adding a sleazy, sexually-charged vocal to his bumpy, low slung, ghetto house-meets-space boogie groove. The Dutch producer's hustling groove, clipped guitars, jammed synths and addictive bassline are pushed to the fore on the accompanying Club Dub, while the included Acapella should please all of those who are too lazy to talk dirty themselves. The package also includes two sterling reworks: a rolling, futurist techno re-invention from Tom Trago in his now familiar style, and a bombastic, acid-laden house mix from fellow Voyage Direct artist Boris Werner.

Review: Dutch producer Simon Weiss has been steadily releasing since 2010 and now presents us with a great new one for the Voyage Direct label helmed by celebrated compatriot Tom Trago. Leading the way is "Tele-Vision", a funky and rolling retro techno jam whose melody is vaguely reminiscent of an old Suburban Knight classic. There's then a remix of this track by Klakson head honcho Dexter, who does a good job by not diverting a great deal from the original, just turning it into a more reliable tool version with some sublime analogue synth textures over the top: oh so typical of his style. Moving on, "Ghost" will totally bang the party with its epic arpeggios that gallop away eloquently while there's more throwback sounds on "Super Sub" which is reminiscent of classic Virgo 4.

Future Times
Future Times - (4:33) 120 BPM Hot
They Don't Know - (4:58) 126 BPM
Review: Tom Trago's Voyage Direct Series has been known to release some of the hottest artists in the house game - Dexter, Maxi Mill and San Proper among some of the label's prized names - but this time it's a newcomer who steps into the limelight. Elias Mazian drops his debut release with a wonderfully cosmic yet floor-ready two-tracker. "Future Times" is a rolling, snare-heavy banger complete with one bubbling bassline, whereas "They Don't Know" is a broken, half-time garage hybrid with some monstrous low-end for you to shake your goods to. Both tracks killer, both of them certified floor-fillers. Highly recommended.

Review: Boris Werner's idiosyncratic productions have gained him much attention, so much so that his previous release came out on Get Physical - always a confirmation of quality. Here he's back with two more slices of his trademark linear minimal-not-minimal house. "Acid Casino" is the perkier of the two - all chugging loops that slowly escalate over eight minutes courtesy of machine gun snare shots and restrained 303s squelches. At nearly nine minutes, the moody atmospherics of "Upstairs Or Downstairs" makes it one for the head rather than the feet - a perfect riposte, making for one perfectly balanced EP.
